You would think because they are owned by the same company the transfer would had been effortless. You'd be wrong. I basically was treated as a new patient and had to jump through all the same hoops. Ridiculous. I have a four-hour infusion and during that time, I'm not allowed to make a phone call! Seriously? People work and have things they need to take care of. We are not animals you can put in a corner and tell them to be quiet. After being told to get off the phone I had to sit and listen to the nurses laugh and tell stories at the front desk. Also, the nurse required me to wear the BP cuff the whole time I was there because she would need to check my BP. How lazy can you be? So you have to sit with an IV in one arm and a cuff on the other. If you're going to tie me down and restrict me like this, there better be good drugs involved! I heard that the wonderful woman who ran the San Antonio clinic just left. Guess she got tired of the BS too. If you need infusions, do yourself a favor and call Coram Healthcare and get your infusions at home. That's what I'm doing.

All preliminary contact and sharing of information gave me the initial confidence of a well run practice. However, approximately two-months into them overseeing my Mother's medical care, I have to confess this has been one of the most discouraging patient-medical practice relationships I have experienced. Most of my concerns "appear" to stem from the operations of the clinical and office support staff. I don't know exactly where their operational breakdowns have occurred, as getting any communication and/or response from the office (to include the Medical Director) has been difficult at best. In defense of the Physician who examined my Mother, I was most pleased with his examination and subsequent medical recommendations made regarding my Mother's medical needs. However, every other element of the Practice failed. Communication and follow-through within the Practice is abysmal. The Practice did not follow-up on the Physician's Orders on medication removal or additions from her appointment with either myself or my Mother's senior living facility. This has put my Mother's overall health and safety at risk. In conclusion, I was very encouraged by the Physician's interest and assessment in providing my Mother with the best possible care. However, from an outcome based perspective, regardless of how credible the Physician might be, if those assessments and Orders don't get communicated to those entities implementing the actual care to the patient, the Physician's competency is academic. Hopefully, my experience is an anomaly, but tread with caution and ensure you do your due diligence in monitoring the full operation. Check and double-check that all encounter decisions are actually implemented.

I was referred to Dr Meynig from my General Practitioner for Hernia treatment. Dr Meynig was…read morefriendly and did an excellent job checking the areas in question and explaining my options in regards to surgery and the differences in procedures. I opted for the laparoscopic surgery option and scheduled the surgery. While doing this, the staff noticed I had not met my deductible for the current year and were able to move my surgery up so it would be 100% covered instead of taking a hit early in the year. On the day of surgery Dr Meynig and the staff did an excellent job of making me feel comfortable and explaining all the steps and procedures. During the surgery he found an abnormality and was able to remove it safely and complete the hernia repair. They also did an excellent job of keeping my girlfriend updated during the procedure. I would highly recommend Dr Meynig.

The only problems we have had are with the office staff. My husband was added to my insurance at the beginning of this year. He came in this week for a required follow up appointment to refill a prescription. He gave them his new insurance card, and was told that this visit fell under the 1 year pre-existing condition part of our benefits, and these visits wouldn't be covered until Jan 15, 2015. It's about $100 a visit without insurance, and I just spent $400 backdating his insurance to start Jan 1, 2014. So I called my insurance company.. surely a general well visit to refill an anxiety prescription he's been taking for over 4 years now should be covered, right? My insurance company said this was what they considered just a regular office visit and all we should have to pay is $35 co-pay. They also stated there were no stipulations or provisions on our policy pertaining to his anxiety medicine, which we disclosed in his application with his medical history, that would consider this a pre-existing condition. I asked them what I should do next, and they said to call the Dr. office and have them call the insurance company. She said anyone there would tell their office the same thing she told me. My husband had already left the office at this point because we didn't want to pay out of pocket for the appointment when we have insurance. So he called back and told the Dr office to call the insurance company. She said she already had and that they did not know what they were talking about because they didn't have my husband's medical history. Since she was so uncooperative, I tried to call myself. She refused to speak with me, insisting I was not authorized in the matter. Even though it is MY insurance plan and I am his WIFE. My husband had to call and give them permission to speak with me (even though I am pretty sure he filled out a form saying it was okay to release his patient information to his wife - they didn't bother to check his file for that paper). She finally called me back and went on to tell me she had been dealing with insurance for many years now and she knows that this will be considered pre-existing. She also said that the insurance company was wrong because a claim would have to be filed before they could determine whether this was just a general office visit or a pre-existing condition. In that case, wouldn't you treat it as a general office visit at the co-pay amount, and then bill us if the insurance later decides it is considered pre-existing? That's how every doctor, specialist, etc. I've ever seen has done things. She said they have an office policy that they won't do that. So I let her know that is very unfortunate because now Dr. Muñoz would be losing a patient. We very easily called another Dr. in our network, they got us on the books for today, and assured me we would only have to pay the co-pay, and that she had also been dealing with insurance for many years and had never seen a prescription follow-up appointment fall under pre-existing condition clauses. She asked that we do call Dr. Muñoz office to have them fax over his lab work so they didn't have to do it all over again.. which was another pain in the butt! We called them for 2 days straight and got a recording every time, until today. She said because this wasn't a referral from Dr. Muñoz, but rather us choosing to see another doctor, we had to go to the new doctor's office and sign a consent form that they then had to fax over to Dr. Muñoz before they would even send it over. Even though my husband was giving verbal consent to have the records sent over. It was just routine blood work results that they were asking for. She said every doctor's office does it this way, even though our new doctor is an example to the contrary. Our new doctor office tried calling for the results and got the same hassle we did. She asked that in the meantime, before sending the consent form, can they just tell her what blood work they did so their office would know what to draw for his appointment today. They got put on hold for a long while and no one ever picked up. She called back and the lady in Dr. Muñoz office told her that she was too busy with a patient. This was just an overall nightmare of an experience and they really didn't try to work with us or make anything easier because they thought they knew better than us and the insurance company. It was a lot of unnecessary stress and last minute scrambling that we had to do. I feel bad that Dr. Muñoz had to lose a patient, one that had been paying out of pocket without insurance for almost 2 years no less, just because his staff insisted on making everything so difficult.

In fact, I credit her with saving my life by noticing a change in my blood work results which prompted her to notify my cardiologist, who in turn discovered that I had an aortic aneurysm which required immediate, life saving surgery. However, the recent turnover of this practice to WellMed has been a disaster for patients. Communication has gone to hell in a handbasket, and as of the end of the year, they no longer accept many insurance companies, a fact that they did not communicate to patients. This lack of communication is absolutely unacceptable! I sincerely hope that Lindsey finds a new home to practice, and that I can continue to benefit from her skills and experience, but I will certainly be looking for a new general practitioner in the meantime. It is imperative that the town of Elgin ensures that they focus on locating health care providers to service the rapid growth of the town. Failure to have adequate medical care in the town will be a killer to future growth.

I was there a total of 4 hours but I think it was well worth it. I don't have insurance and really appreciate this place.

Unfortunately, I will say as a volunteer, the wait time can get quite hairy, but we definitely try to get everyone in and out as fast as we can. But it will be longer than a typical doctor's office, for sure.
