I've been coming to this quaint little chocolate shop in Forest Hills for a few years now. I can tell you that this is the BEST chocolate that I've ever had. Good lord, it's delicious!! Very easy to get via several buses that stop on and around Metropolitan Avenue. Every time I've come here I've always been warmly greeted and offered a free chocolate. They give you a choice between dark, milk and white. They have so many different kinds of items. Not just chocolate. Candy, hot/cold drinks, ice cream, etc. Some of the items are pretty pricey. Like the boxes of chocolate, but believe me, it is worth EVERY cent. They do have a shelf of discounted chocolate items. Its the last shelf in the back on the right-hand side. It'll have previous holiday chocolates for half price. Last week I got a chocolate flag for only $4.25. It was still fresh and delicious. Their stuff is so good that even just a simple milk chocolate Valentines heart on a stick is satisfying delicious. They have chocolate covered Oreo's and Twinkies. Aignee is a hidden gem located in the quiet area of Forest Hill, right on the corner of Metropolitan Ave and 73rd Road. It's a woman-owned business, founded in 1930, and has been designated a historic business since the summer of 2025. They offer chocolates for all seasons and occasions, along with a monthly chocolate subscription that delivers 1.5 lbs of chocolates to your doorstep, as well as classic caffeinated drinks. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside, there are four chairs, and outside there's a bench or two. Dogs are not allowed, and you can also order from the window; however, I don't like that the bell makes no sound when rung, nor that there's no register by the window.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They also have a rewards program, but it's a bit old-school because it's basically your phone number rather than having the reward link to your credit card, which can be a hassle when ordering from the window because you have to give them your phone number and payment method (credit card or phone if it's Apple Pay, etc.) each time. It has always been a precious part of my childhood and now now I create my own memories with my family. I went in last night and the guy and girl working the counter were so nice and sweet and answered our questions about the chocolate hearts that we had. The store was full of valentines chocolates all different prices and all very much thought out. There is a price range for any and everyone that walks in. The second you walk in you can smell the delicious home made chocolates, ice-cream, coffees and treats. Chocolate is one of the most loved and versatile human inventions. It comes in many forms of liquid (melted, hot chocolate, syrup), solid (bars, bark, fudge, bunnies), amorphous (ice cream) and if you can serve it as a gas to be inhaled, I'm sure Aigner Chocolates will come up with one to be vaped. The smell of chocolate certainly permeates your nostrils and into your clothes as you walk around the store. We came in to check out the store before dinner, me for the Summer of Sandwiches Elite Experience to get my S'mores samplers and my wife to shop. They have chocolate drinks in the front and at least 3 different flavors of chocolate ice cream in the back. The salesperson was extremely helpful and even gave us a couple of samples, milk chocolate for her and white chocolate for me. The Star Wars chocolate figures caught my eye and an R2-D2, along with a couple of Baby Yoda heads came home with us, as well as a few assorted gift boxes for a friend's upcoming birthday. I hate to leave Aigner Chocolates a bad review but unfortunately it just really wasn't good. I did stop by for the Yelp trio of marshmallows but also got some other additional chocolates as well. I'm not sure why the marshmallows are called marshmallows as they're quite hard and don't taste like marshmallows at all. I wasn't a big fan of the flavors either and just thought it tasted confusing. As for the additional chocolates, it was really a hit or miss. The coconut ones were terrible (instead of using real coconut flakes they use some weird crystallized artificial coconut and it is really not good). However, the nut ones were fantastic. In short, only 1/3 things tasted good. Maybe I just picked the wrong things but I've had a lot better chocolates elsewhere. read more

No joke, Aigner has been on my list of places to try. Unfortunately, I always arrived too early while shopping at Trader Joe's or too late while meeting friends for dinner at an Italian restaurant on Metropolitan. Finally got a chance to try the famous Australian chocolatier, who has been part of the Forest Hills community. They are a 3 generation family owned business. In a few years, it will be the 100th year anniversary. Wow... It's been around and this is my first time. They accept credit cards (thank goodness!) As soon as I walked in, the employee offered me a sample of milk or dark chocolate sample. The employees were friendly and helped me decide when I could figure out what to choose. I decided on milk chocolate sample. At the same time, I was distracted by the chocolate drinks. Debating between the hazelnut latte or regular hot chocolate. If you have never been here, get the rich hot chocolate as suggested by the employee. She was so right -- I got a milk one. It was rich and thick. Delicious! The store was clean and you can check out each section. There were so many chocolates: gift boxes, truffles, unique shapes, s'mores, ice cream, and drinks. This is one of the best and most affordable chocolatiers I've been to! I've been meaning to stop in here for a while and I'm so happy that I did. The smell of delicious chocolate hits you right away and there is so much chocolate in every shape and size throughout the store. I was super excited and couldn't wait to pick out something yummy. The employee was really kind and helpful, and even gave me samples of some chocolate - my favorite was the milk chocolate cat tongue. It was absolutely delicious and melted in my mouth! I ended up buying a block of milk chocolate molded into a violin. It was so creamy and just delectable. Funny enough, I ended up back here after brunch because I dragged my friend along since she had also wanted to visit this spot for some time. We ended up buying some more chocolate, including some chocolate Christmas wreaths that were on sale. This is such an amazing spot for quality chocolate that I highly recommend stopping into if you're looking for delectable chocolate. Walking in is a chocolate lovers dream; the aromas are intoxicating . Hot Chocolate is available in milk, white or dark versions. I opt'd for the dark and it was made to order. The cup was filled to the rim and the smell was just heavenly. Taking a sip I was immediately happy, it was creamy, not too sweet, the perfect temperature and the level of chocolate was amazing. This may be the best version I've had..like ever. Whether you are looking for chocolates to snack on or a hot chocolate to keep you warm during these cold months, definitely grab one at Aigner. read more

Super impressed with this chocolate shop! I thought I'd tasted the best chocolate covered Oreo before in my life, but the ones from Aigner were a million times better!!! Everything was really fresh and wonderful. They gave us lots of samples, and I love that almost everything comes in either dark chocolate or milk chocolate. I always hesitate to get chocolate gifts when I'm away from home because I don't know how they will do in my luggage on a plane, but the 2 wonderful people working here helped me choose things that would travel well and make great gifts, and sure enough everything arrived with no melting and no damage- yay! I'm no expert on chocolate, but I don't think you need to be a connoisseur to understand that the chocolate here is special. Chocolate shop with a hot chocolate bar upfront plus a few chocolate ice creams in the back. Lots of variety making it difficult for me to choose, so I opted for a small box of 8 pieces for $16. First thing I noticed was the texture. The chocolate wasn't sticky and ate cleanly. The chocolates were easy to bite into without being mushy. Next, I liked how the flavors of the various chocolates complimented the chocolate flavor. Whether it was mint, caramel, peanut, or one of the other accompaniments, I felt the chocolate still stood out and wasn't overshadowed by the additional ingredients. Last and what was most noteworthy to me was the finish. About fifteen minutes after finishing the chocolates, I still felt a chocolate flavor. I don't recall having the chocolate flavor resonating for so long before. It's possible that some chocolate but was lodged in my mouth and slowly dissipating, but I'd prefer to believe there is something special about this chocolate. Service was quick and super patient with me and my wife. The shop has a cute windowsill counter with about half a dozen seats. read more

Well I just drove away So my husband and I went there tonight keep in mind I go there every 2weeks for chocolate...it's 6:15 on a Saturday night we walk I have my service dog which I wear in a crossbody bag and was asked to leave because of my dog!!!!!! Dark chocolate snob here. I've lived in France and had the best chocolate in boutique chocolateries in Paris. I enjoy Swiss chocolates (also lived there) and enjoy Belgian Neuhaus and Leonidas chains. Francophile and Francophone so wasn't expecting the incredibly, high quality milk chocolate I got at Aigner chocolates. The opposite of blindsided. I parked on the side street. Metropolitan has metered parking until 7 p.m. every day but Sunday. Got there just before closing at 6. Service was friendly. I was looking for small wrapped chocolates for some of the Easter eggs I was filling with things for my niece's Easter egg hunt. She's 7.5 and likes milk chocolate so I picked up foil wrapped mini chocolate eggs, bunnies and chicks. I tried a few and my eyes lit up in amazement at how GOOD they were and much more affordable than the Belgian chains available in the US. Next time I'll pick up some dark chocolate. A family owned over 90 year old chocolatier is basically a timekeeper personified for what chocolate used to be almost 100 years ago. It's history you can taste and that is just so special. I got the hot chocolates during my visits, once iced, once hot. The milk hot chocolate was good BUT you could barely get a taste of the chocolate so I would highly recommend getting the dark chocolate drinks regardless of it being cold or hot. It isn't bitter at all and you can really taste the chocolate coming through. The hot chocolate is made, then the ice is put in and it's finished with some milk poured over top. I was concerned it would be half ice (like most iced drinks are) and like a splash of hot chocolate but that wasn't the case at all. Each sip you get a little nugget of soft melty chocolate too. It becomes almost like a melted shake/malt once the ice melts and if you have some left over you can always heat it up and have it hot. I definitely want to try the ice creams next and some of the other drinks so I'll be back. read more

So in the quest to find a large chocolate Easter bunny my brother calls this place and the women says we have three large size bunnies! So I decide to drive up I get up there finally and I'm told oh gee that large bunny is not for sale! It's going to be raffled. I say WHAT???? The girl gets the owner who comes out and I tell him what happened! He says oh no that large bunny is $1000! We love Aigner Chocolates! Almost if not everything goes in either milk chocolate or dark chocolate to accommodate for more sweet or bitter palates. I've had the mocha and pistachio truffles in milk chocolate which were particularly good! I also have had the milk chocolate with almond milk which was amazing! Reminds me of the hot chocolate I had in Barcelona years ago that used real melted chocolate. Helpful hint: Credit card minimum is $10 and there aren't any atm's nearby. I went to Aigner Chocolates for the first time today after having passed by many times and hearing wonderful things. It had started to pour outside and I was craving chocolate so I decided to check it out. I was so impressed with how clean the shop was. There was a hand sanitizer and glove station, which I think is definitely needed at this time. I was greeted by a very nice worker who helped me to select my chocolates. I chose chocolate covered pretzels and some pralines. So far I have only tasted the dark chocolate pretzel, milk chocolate marzipan, and a hazelnut praline, all were delicious. I look right, a glass case of assorted chocolates with specialty fillings or custom shaped chocolate pieces. Then straight into the store, there's a table in the center that displays playful and intricately designed themed chocolates. I totally felt like a kid again except now, I could buy however many pieces I want instead of just one. Insert sugary high giggles here. I went on a sugar spree (they were lucky to catch me before I had dinner) and with just a week before Valentine's Day, I figured this was the perfect opportunity to shop. I'll quickly mention the one glaring flaw, and then get to the good stuff. I've had the cold brew there twice now and it is just way too bitter. Does not taste good at all. But, not like this place is called Aigner Coffee, right? Ok now to the (we'll-deserved) compliments. This is a small but well-kept chocolate shop. They are one of the most cautious places regarding Covid (and that is a compliment - I always feel safe going here). They limit the number of people who can be inside at once, have a coffee-to-go window (that might actually have been there pre-Covid), and when you go inside they not only have a hand sanitizer dispenser, but they politely ask people to use it. The chocolate there is the real deal. From classics like truffles, almond crunches, and chocolate-covered anything's, to artistic creations (holiday symbols, baseball "bats" made of chocolate, etc.), everything is delicious. The staff there are all wonderful; they're all friendly and knowledgeable about everything chocolate. Once I asked them about the differences between the salt caramels and the worker gave me a spot-on answer. Black Mediterranean Sea salt caramels have a different (saltier) taste than Pink Himalayan, for instance. Lastly, this place does some community and charity work.
