It has recently come to our attention, someone has seen fit to post some very negative…read morestatements,regarding the RT Berry School and of Master Berry himself. We felt it incumbent, on ourselves to offer our own opinions and observations on the matter. We have a daughter and six grandchildren that train at the school. Our grandchildren range in the age from six to twenty,so you can imagine the number of functions we have attended there. Belt testings, black belt testings,black belt dinners,the annual picnic, plus all other functions that have occurred over the years. This has given us the opportunity to observe first hand how the school is operated and how Master Berry and his staff inter act with the students and their families. Our daughter grandchildren my wife and myself hold Master Berry and his staff in the highest esteem. It is our opinion that they have made a vey positive and lasting effect on the lives of the students in their care. We have three children,the oldest is fifty,plus a total of nine grandchildren. One does not come this far in life without having experience with all sorts of youth organizations. In our opinion the RT Berry School, exemplifies what an organization dealing with youth should be. They as well as adults are taught responsibility, respect for themselves as well as others. Pride in the community,and COUNTRY, at age appropriate training.The students from the school will become the honest upright citizens this country was built on . The 'new' gym is hideous. in contacting the management,, the person couldn't have cared less, she was condescending, flippant, she didn't listen to what I was saying and she was dismissive. it was clear her missive was to get me off the phone. The staff is put in a terrible spot. they aren't being communicated with from management. people are wandering around lost in the facility because of the lack or non existence of staffing. Rooms aren't available when you talk to one person but another person says they can unlock it. they are RUINING the experience of going to the gym. They are of course charging full price for a lot less than 100% availability of what we had prior. She uses the phrase ''sorry you feel this way" clearly its NOT a feeling, its cognitive thought, something they do Not understand at the Hickory Foundation YMCA. id be embarrassed to tell anyone I was management at this place. No-one cares, its apathy to the Nth degree and it starts At The Very Top who refuse to interact with membership because well, they just do not want to hear it.

There are so many activities and different programs to help anyone get into/stay in shape without getting bored. There are no joining fees or contracts, just monthly dues. Very affordable, around $40 a month for a single person and $65 for a whole family. There is both an indoor and outdoor pool where they offer water aerobic classes, private lessons, and lifeguard training. A wide range of group exercise classes are offered such as Zumba, Martial Arts, Step, Spin, and Yoga to name a few. Swati is an amazing Yoga instructor; highly recommend her Yoga Reflection class. The gym is pretty standard with free weights, machines, treadmills, etc. Personal trainers are available for those who want one-on-one motivation and coaching. Also, can't forget about the basketball courts, tennis courts, baseball fields, soccer fields and the new climbing tower! I have only been up the tower once...on the easiest side... with 8 year olds zooming up the wall beside me ...but still it was inspiring to make it to the top! Summertime is super busy with campers all over the place but the camp counselors do a good job of keeping them in check. Last but not least, the staff is sooooo friendly and helpful! Especially Thelma, who greets nearly every member by name and goes out of her way to help the elderly members.

Great little yoga studio with excellent instructors and classes. I attended their foundations class…read moreonce on a Saturday morning. Kassy did great at guiding the whole class throughout the lesson. The only downside was that there didn't seem to be a limit to how many people could join, so our mats were only a few inches apart from each other and we got to know our neighbors very well haha. I think many students are used to this, but I like a little more room for the tricky poses. Troutman is a bit out of my way and I haven't taken other classes there yet, but I have taken multiple classes with some of their other instructors (Talei, Tamara and Andy) and they are very good, so I hope to attend some other classes this summer when I can make the drive. The Let It Flow Facebook page is updated often with special classes and updates, which I find helpful. Visitors can sign up for classes by using the MINDBODY phone app. In addition to regular yoga classes, they hold many workshops and even classes for kids. The studio in a converted old home with lots of character and they have a small coffee and snack bar downstairs! After class, students can enjoy a tasty bite and a coffee, beer or even mimosa! Definitely my kind of yoga atmosphere hehe.
