This was a surprisingly good sushi place. Salmon and yellowtail were both good. The way they made the agedashi tofu was not the way I typically like it, but was light and had good flavor. As a local to Port, Washington, Aiko is hands-down the best sushi. Everything is consistent taste good taste fresh never have anything bad from there. Went here while visiting family. For context, I am Asian and surrounded by good Asian food where I live. We went for lunch and I got the two roll lunch special. It was 12 dollars and came with two cut rolls of your choice plus miso soup or salad. There were a lot of options for the rolls. I went with the unagi (eel) and cucumber, and spicy tuna. The miso soup was good. An average miso soup and very nice on a chilly day. The sushi was okay. Not bad by any means but just not great. The unagi roll was drenched in eel sauce and the cucumbers weren't crisp. That being said, the eel tasted fresh and was cooked correctly. The spicy tuna was also just okay. It tasted fine, there was just literally no spice, which was disappointing. It was pretty empty when we went and service was quick. The bathrooms were also clean. read more

Every so often I come back here to give some photo updates and rave some more about Aiko. It is still hands down my favorite sushi in town. The best deal and the quality is great! Love the look of this place with tons of seating and service was very fast and friendly. Ordered a shrimp tempura that wasn't what I was expecting when they brought it out, but it was delicious and I would have ordered it twice. In addition to that we got a basic spicy tuna roll and what I believe was the Fire Island Roll. They brought it out on fire and there was plenty to fill me up. My son got chicken and veg tempura which was his first time having it and he was somewhat impartial to it. Not that it was bad, but I should have order something else for someone young. Overall, enjoyable dinner. I though the sushi was tasty but the nori was a little chewier than I would have liked. The service again was the best, the food was good and the atmosphere was good. I recently moved from Manhattan to Port Washington and thought the food was great. Normally, I am not a fan of menus that offer so many options, but everything my wife and I tried was good. (Would suggest to the owners to consolidate the special and house rolls a little.) We had: -Kobe Meatballs -Tuna Cracker -Eel Cucumber Handroll -Tempura Shrimp Roll -Dee Roll -Port Washington Roll. We liked the Port Washington Roll better than the Dee Roll, but both were great. Service was good and on a Friday night it was busy but we got a table right away. Port Washington is home to several Japanese places and Aiko is one of the best in the area. What stood out to me about Aiko is that it is a place that has excellent service. Everyone is incredibly polite and they are pretty quick to bring out your order. The sushi is very fresh and the prices are reasonable. Dragon Rolls are my go to whenever I have sushi and Aiko did not disappoint. There was a good ratio of eel to avocado on my roll and they did not skimp out. In addition, there is a huge selection of chef's special rolls for a few extra dollars with a few that I've never heard of before. We didn't try these but would definitely be back to try these in the future. If you are not a big fan of sushi, there are bento boxes you can order from as well as a wide range of drinks and desserts. Let me say I recently tried this restaurant for the 1st time and how delicious!? First, I recommend the octopus appetizer. The octopus itself was so large and so tender and the sauce was absolutley delicious. Second their specialty roles are not the typical you see at every other sushi restaurant. This restaurant has variety, something new to try every time you visit and I promise you your taste buds will thank you. Third their sashimi is incredibly fresh. They give you a generous portion and once again variety in their sashimi dinner and I highly recommend this menu item. If I had to be critical of one thing, and this is a slight stretch, the wait time for food is a little long. I waited aproximatley 20 minutes for 2 handrolls and one piece of ikura sashimi. There is usually a pretty decent coupon situation if you pick up the menu. The food is above average, and I have never had a negative experience. I used to come in for the lunch specials when I was single. The main draw for me is that they have a cool bar area with LED lights that makes for a cool ambiance. Also, they have a TV above the bar that usually has the news. I'll never forget I was having lunch here, and watching the news at the bar, when I first heard that Spock (Leonard Nimoy) died. Ever since then, I have had an attachment to this place. With a ton of competition nearby, this place does a pretty good job. There are two other sushi places within walking distance. I usually order the spicy maki combo from most places. This place has a less expensive version compared to the other places in town. But, instead of 3 spicy tuna/salmon rolls one of them is a spicy shrimp roll. This is the first time I ever saw a shrimp roll in a spicy maki combo but I actually like it. My absolute favorite Japanese fusion on Long Island! It is so delicious. The staff are always so nice. The service is very fast. The atmosphere is great. You don't realize your bill add up but it's so worth it. They give you plenty of food and the rolls are very filling and big. There are many options to choose from so you can always try something new each time. My favorite is the sesame chicken and the chicken teriyaki. But honestly you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I always ask for sides of eel sauce which is super sweet, and they always give me as much as I want without charging extra. Aiko is hands down my favorite restaurant. I recommend it to everyone and go as often as I can. First of all- the food! I've never had a bad dish as Aiko and I've tried many items on the menu. I personally recommend the miso eggplant, the sweet potato sushi, shrimp tempura, tofu teriyaki, vegetable dumplings, fried rice, and above all, the miso soup. Aiko's miso soup is top tier. It's flavorful but not overly salty, with the perfect balance of tofu and seaweed. If I had to have one meal for the rest of my life it would be this soup. The service at Aiko is great. The servers are friendly and attentive, and food is brought out quickly. I also enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant. It's a nice place to dine in that isn't too loud or chaotic. There is a nice, peaceful vibe that makes it a fun place to hand out with friends or simply grab a quick lunch alone. I'd give it ten stars if I could. Yamaguchi is authentic and traditional, Hanna has a hint of fusion with interesting specials and Aiko is a bit more westernized offering special sauces with their rolls, sushi pizza and sushi sandwich. The staffs were wonderful and the food was very fresh. Had lunch here and was not disappointed. Toro was very fatty and the grill squid was delicious. The rolls were tasty but I prefer not having the colorful sauces. Thank goodness it was served on a side so I can opt not to dip.
