I called them on two separate occasions for emergency repairs, once for cooling because our a/c stopped working during a summer heatwave and my wife was pregnant at the time and another for heating because our hvac was leaking and flooding the building. Both times I was told that the earliest they can schedule me is 5 or 6 days later. Their website advertises "when you need us, we'll be there" and that could not be further from the truth. Not only were they not there when we needed them, but the person taking the calls simply brushed me off both times with a "that's your problem" attitude. She also made a point to say that we were not existing customers and existing customers have priority over any new customers regardless of the emergency. Absolutely HORRIBLE customer service. I would add that many of the homeowners in our complex use this company so there are multiple company vans/trucks on our property at one time almost everyday. I will make sure to share our experiences any time someone suggests or recommends this company to another fellow homeowner again. I ended up calling different service providers both times and, despite not having any available openings, they sent someone out on those same days because they both recognized the urgency of the emergency situations we were in. read more

I had been doing business with Air Group for more than 20 years and used their services for installation of our Carrier Puron Air Conditioner, Bosch Tankless hot water system, Carrier Hot water Furnace, and AprilAire Whole House Humidifier (for a total cost of more than $25k). Recently they installed a Honeywell T4 Pro Thermostat. This model had worked well for us but for some reason this season when switching the temperature from 'winter' (heating) to 'summer' (cooling) it did not make the changes that were preprogrammed. I was having difficulty following the instructions and called them for some simple help from a technician on the phone to reprogram the unit. First they failed to return my call and when I called again I was told that they could not give 'on phone' advice and would require a minimum $184 service call. I will not be doing any further business with Air Group. read more

I have used Air Group for nearly 20 years. I had my house retrofitted for central air in Bloomfield with two Carrier units in 2002. I used them again in 2015 to install two new Carrier units in my new house in East Hanover. In 2017, I decided to use them again to get a Navien tankless hot water heater. It cost $4025 installed which is obscenely expensive, but I figured that I was getting a quality installation from a quality supplier... Fast forward two years... the water heater dies. I call them up and they charge me $340.13 to diagnose the problem on a Thursday night in November. They don't fix the problem until the following Tuesday, so I was without hot water for 5 days with both of my kids sick. Well, at least the plumber said that it was covered under warranty and I wouldn't owe anything else. Fast forward another month. Now, I received a bill for ANOTHER $340.13. I called to determine if they had a billing issue as it was precisely the same amount that I was charged for the diagnostic. I was told no, the water heater was out of warranty for labor costs and I would have to pay. So, lets keep a running tally: $4025 Water heater $340.13 Diagnostic $340.13 Labor to fix the Water heater (over two days because the first fix they did made matters worse) Total $4705.26 That's a pretty expensive piece of garbage and really awful customer service for someone who has dropped over $40K on their services. I regret sending them additional business, but I will not make the same mistake again. They were great, but now they just nickel and dime their clients. read more

0 accountability. I only gave extra star for the representative, Joe, that I worked closely with. They replaced our old HVAC and installed a new one. Next day my hot water stopped working (my hvac is a hot water coil system so it uses hot water from the water heater for the heat). I called in to have a technician out to check up and get it fixed. The first thing I heard was there'll be extra charges even though it's crystal clear something went wrong during the installation and testing (the guys were in the boiler room touching the water heater for awhile when they were testing the heating system). Otherwise, why would it just stop pumping hot water all of sudden? Funny thing is hot air was coming out of the heating system, which means water heater was working just fine making hot water. It was just the domestic water from the faucets that's not hot, so something got damaged during the HVAC installation to the pipes/valves that pump water to hand sinks, shower, etc. The technician they sent over couldn't find anything and they kept saying they're going to charge because it's not their fault. That technician just left sharp at 5pm. I hired another plumber and he immediately identified the problem and fixed it. To Airgroup - Life's not always about money. If you were just diligent and professional enough to admit the causal links between your installation and the damages done to my water heater and fix these collateral damages, I would've happily paid whatever you asked. For those few hundred bucks, you just lost several multi-grand jobs. (Response to your comment, Teddy) - Funny how you say that. Why would that valve have been stuck all of sudden? Who touched that water heater? Your technician who came after could not figure it out after almost 3 hours looking at it. There was clearly no hope a technician you would've sent next day morning could fix it; where the other company diagnosed the cause just by hearing what was happening and taking my water heater's model number. They fixed in 2.5 hours. Think to yourself. Would you take a cold water shower 3 nights in a row in this weather? I'd gladly pay $1200 for the person who fixes the problem the same night on an emergency call and not waste my time for another day with no guarantee of fixes. You guys better stop making excuses and think back to yourselves on why you're getting 3.5 stars on Yelp and what other 1-star reviewers say. We have a yearly contract for AC & heating systems, paying a fee monthly so we sre priority clients. We have been clients for nearly 20 years. Good news - they show up promptly including on weekends, nights and holidays when things seem to go wrong, just like when children getting sick. Overall they seem competent and fair. Plus for the monthly fee, you get a tune up for whatever systems you are covering, discount on repairs and loyalty credits. Negatives - Not cheap and the monthly fee buys quick access, those tuneups, but if things go wrong, you will still pay for repairs albeit at a discounted rate. I found one repairman to be particularly annoying, so I requested he not service my account. The management is cooperative in resolving any issues. Given the consolidation in the industry, I am not sure who is left competing with them. Worthwhile? When the AC died on the hottest day of the summer, the July 4th weekend, they returned the call within 10 min and we're out repairing the unit within 2 hours. So I'd say yes, it's worthwhile. read more

We are a family with small children. Their salesman completely mislead us into purchasing a system that has been costing $250 a month to finance. We agreed to pay it for 5 years because we were told it would SAVE us money on our PSEG. Well our cost to run out HVAC used to be $150 before the new system was installed. Now it costs $600+. The system has been installed incorrectly multiple times. Oh and we just learned we have a warranty for 1 year.... But after that, you need to pay for annual maintenance for $775 for 1 year. If they don't find "anything wrong" (because we have nothing better to do than call a company for fun when there's no problem), they charge $184. They have improperly installed this system multiple times and they didn't find out until like the 4th service call. So I'll just pay $184 until the right tech visits? And if they have to replace parts, you're also charged. This company went downhill very fast in recent years. Stay away! read more

Specifically Stephanie B. - She was the first person I spoke with, and gave me a terrible first impression of the company. Very rude and unprofessional. Just a heads up, if she reaches out to any other new customers. Because of this interaction, I'm going to look elsewhere. When I'm looking for a company that can help with an emergency, I'd rather speak to someone who cares and who helps me try to find a solution. I cannot comment on their actual work, just their estimate and advice for replacing my central a/c (my condenser broke after 26 years, so I needed to replace the condenser and air handler). The house is small, just 1400 SF of livable space. I got three estimates: one for $7,750, one for $8,650, and Air Group's estimates (they had three options, ranging from $11,200 to $12,800. Air Group's least expensive option used a cheap, 13 SEER economy Payne condenser, but they were SOOOO expensive even for that. Also, a lot of Air Group's expense was because they were recommending replacing a lot of my existing ductwork (which my other two contractors said was perfectly fine). I would think that AG would have done good work had I used them, but only an idiot would pay twice the price for a cheap condenser and air handler and replace a lot of ductwork which multiple other contractors said was perfectly fine. Air Group also said it wasn't worth the trouble to apply for any utility rebates, but I got a $300 rebate through the contractor I used. In the end, I got SUPERIOR, (and more expensive), Carrier 16 SEER equipment (without all the new ductwork that AG was pushing) for $7,450. And AG wanted $11,200 for a cheap Payne 13 SEER unit and a lot of ancillary work that I obviously didn't need. So even if they do good work, I could never recommend AG. I do NOT think the guy from AG who gave me an estimate would have done what he was recommending in his own house with his own money... that's for sure. read more

We recently selected Air Group to install a new high efficiency furnace and 16 SEER air conditioner at our home. We interviewed five different companies, and selected Air Group mostly because the salesman, Joe C really paid attention to our needs when outlined in detail, and gave us a written bid with every single detail outlined and priced out. It included changing ductwork, adding a return, replacing register covers , and a new thermostat, and a transfer switch system for a generator. There were no hidden costs. The sales manager stepped in when Joe was unavailable (vacation) for continuity of service. We never had to wait long for a response from this company. We are thrilled with the level of customer service. The job was scheduled and the crew arrived promptly (7:30 am) with several trucks and enough knowledgeable, well trained manpower to complete the install the system by 4 pm! Joe C introduced us to the job foreman , Austin D and his crew, Joe I ,Clever, Marcos D, Albert A, and Dave. What nice, hard working, kind, patient, through, professional people! It was a pleasure to watch them work as a team to get the jobs accomplished. They cleaned up everything and were done before 4. Joe I and Austin explained everything and left us up and running after testing everything. We were down maybe 5 minutes all day to switch over. These guys are true professionals. They will be the first people I will call for my electrical, plumbing needs, as they are a full service company. They were not the cheapest, but gave us a quality investment. I highly recommend them. Our house is very comfortable, and much more energy efficient . I hope to see the change reflected in my monthly utility bill. read more

Hi Teddy- I left you a message on Friday and you did not return my call. In the meantime, take a look at the pics I've posted to the AirGroup yelp section that shows my thermostat not being able to keep my house at 75 on mildly hot days. I'll call you back tomorrow. Update Air Group did address my concerns and spent numerous hours replacing parts, rerunning ducts and even having the unico rep look at the installation. As of right now it seems much better, but I need to see how it is in the summer.. not the fall. I need to see what happens when it's 92 out and I set it to 72. Overall very happy with the response. I did have to have my coil inside the handler changed for $3200 which did seem a little steep but they also changed the outside unit for a larger unit determining that they may have undersized it from the beginning. I'll update again in Summer. I'm thinking it's good now but I've gotten into this mess by not focusing on the issue once the heat is gone. Thank you Air Group! read more

I found the Air Group to be expensive and not comprehensive with the work. I had to go back in and do the same job and do it correctly. We had water leaking out from the bottom of the furnace, presumably from the condenser. The charge for a 10 min quick clean was $80 on top of the $150 diagnostic. The technician was going to replace a ¾" plastic elbow and connector for the drain line, but I thought an additional $80 was a bit much. While the Air Groups business model may work, I do not believe it leaves the customer feeling like it was worth it. read more

Expensive work, but got my AC working. Air Group came highly recommended to me, so I chose to use them, understanding that there is a $149 full diagnostic charge (which does not contribute to any labor/repair work done). James, the technician was good, professional, and explained the work and testing that he was doing when asked. My AC unit stopped blowing cold air. James quickly found that the unit's capacitor was dead. The additional cost to replace the capacitor.... $237!!! On top of the $149. The same type capacitor on Amazon costs about $20. I'll give them $37, if they want to claim that their capacitor is better. So now there's $200 left for labor??? It's a 10 minute job, tops, to put in the new capacitor and get the AC unit on again. All he needed to do was brace the capacitor to the unit with a screw, plug in the wires, screw cover back on, plug in fuse and the unit is back on. Add another 15-20 minutes to perform more diagnostics to check the air flow temperature and make sure there are no other issues (there were none). So that puts labor cost at $400 per hour! ($200 for 30 minutes of work). Total bill for about 1 hr of work and a $20 capacitor is $411 after tax. In reality, James was at my house longer, since we had to wait for Air Group to deliver the correct sized capacitor needed, since he did not have it in his truck. I'm all for paying a fair price, but I have to say that charging me $237 to replace the capacitor is expensive. I don't blame James, the tech, as he's telling me it is the main office that sets that pricing and that he tried to negotiate a better price for me. I would have considered using Air Group to perform service maintenance on my units, but not now. I think they did good work (James put on the shoe covers to keep my floors clean, a plus in my book) but they are too expensive for the work that was done. I cannot recommend them, unless you are fine to spend the money. read more

Air Group is getting too big for their britches. They used to be much more reasonable in terms of price and service. They just finished a furnace repair (replace motor on less than 5 year-old unit), for which they over-charged me. They had quoted $200, but were somehow able to convince themselves that the real bill was $285. It took about 40 minutes to replace and the motor was under warranty - that's about a $500/hour rate. The only reason I used them is because of the warranty factor. I will not be using or recommending them in the future. read more

From their unreasonable ballpark estimates that aren't even close to other quotes from different repair companies, to their extremely rude office manager, There is really nothing good to say about their service and the work of their technicians. Refunds for poor quality work is not even considered at Air Group. Once you sign off on their poor work (that literally breaks 24 hours later), they are keeping your money. The description Yelp uses for two stars is "Meh. I've experienced better." In this case, that "better" was from the same company in previous years. After this year's experience, I'm going with someone else next year. When we moved into our 100+ year old house in 2010, we had a 3-year-old furnace that had been installed by AirGroup. The previous owners had a service plan, and parts were still under warranty, so we continued with that plan. Each year I'd call for annual service, and sign up for another annual service plan. A guy named Gary-- who'd lived in this town for years and knew all my neighbors-- would come by and calmly and efficiently do the service. He'd explain everything he did, and show me a tip or two each time. He once spent 15 minutes trying to coax our old mercury thermostat into proper calibration, just because he was that kind of guy. He noted on our file that it's 4 degrees off. How great is that? Then things changed for the worse. A few months back, we got an estimate from AirGroup for adding a central AC to the house. The technician/salesman hastily assessed our system. He didn't do a blower test, or ask me any questions about inhabitants or lifestyle. By comparison, another company I had in made me fill out a form full of questions, and the tech sat here with a laptop inputting the number and direction of windows and doors, how many computers we had, etc, etc. AirGroup didn't do any of that. And their estimate didn't include any part numbers, and didn't split out prices. It also didn't detail what physical work would be done-- like putting in any necessary pipes, or what kind of footing the condenser would sit on. I asked the salesman twice for more details, and he told me his system didn't allow for showing that information. (From what I could tell, his "system" was a lousy scan of a Word document.) I wrote the President of the company and asked for a more detailed estimate. He was only mildly helpful, saying parts and service were a 40/60 split. No more details. Needless to say, I didn't hire them to install an AC. Now that we've hit the heating season again, I went online to schedule our annual furnace service. Their system asks how you want to be contacted, and I chose email. They promptly called my home number and left a voicemail. :( I wasn't able to talk on the phone, so I emailed them again. They didn't respond. I waited a day, and filled out the form again. They emailed that they weren't available when I had requested. No offer of another day, just "not available those days." I asked when they were available, and they responded with dates over a month away. I asked why the delay, and they told me that customers who use the online form do not get priority. I was also told that any customer who called in could bump my appointment at any time. WHAT?! I explained that I'd been an annual contract customer for years, and that I'd never had this kind of trouble scheduling our annual service. She told me that I didn't have a contract with them. Turned out, my previous annual contract expired a few days before. But this was true other years, and we'd never been give the "you don't have a contract" line. Frankly, the fact is that the only way you can renew is by having the technician come to your house. When you lead a busy life, and they have limited appointments, you're not gonna be renewing on the same exact day each year! Knowing that I'd simply have to bow to their idiocy, I made the time to call by phone, and I made an appointment for today. Which, incidentally, is the day I had originally asked for in the online form a week ago. The technician showed up promptly at 8am, and though he was nice, he's not Gary. He was loud and stompy, didn't know my house or my system, and didn't have any of the details I had painstakingly given to three separate people in the office about what service I needed. He left behind the gross used filter that he replaced (I have no idea why) and didn't know how to take a credit card for payment. I had to pay by check, and was given no receipt. This is not something I want to have to go through every year from now on just to MAINTAIN my furnace. What would happen if something actually broke?! There is a review on here that mentions that the service techs are always pushing the service plan. I say don't bother! They no longer treat you any better once you're on a service plan. AirGroup is going to lose all of their contract customers if they keep this up. I don't intend to renew with them next year. read more
