I came in (2nd time, first time was several years ago) to have my phone battery changed. The new phones are made where removing the back requires tools, not just fingernails. They can be hard to get ahold of by phone, and after unsuccessfully trying to go to a shop in the neighborhood, I headed here. I wish I could answer 'meh' to the value question. $79 to replace a battery? And I bought MY OWN BATTERY no less! I know it's a tricky procedure, and could incur more damage but still.. The guy told me it would take 45 or so min, and with it being small shop/pandemic times, I left to window shop down the street. That is one advantage to them being downtown, there is more to do while you wait. I left and came back, and it was done. He printed me out a receipt when the text receipt didn't work. I bought my first iPhone at Jimmy's store at 410 S. Clark/Chicago on 5/12/2022. Jimmy was very friendly and patient with me and oriented me considerably to this display model that I ignorantly assumed would be as good as new. Although I discovered this model was selling elsewhere for only $300 (new, NOT used), I paid $500 which I thought was the price for an "unlocked" phone. Jimmy seemed to want me to get the most of this phone, but when I had to bring it back less than a year later (3/16/23) while the phone was giving me a warning message about "moisture", he accused me of dropping my phone in water. Although phone dropping seems to be a "fact of life" for most of us, I have been lucky so far, as I usually protect the phone in a lot of padding when I am on-the-go. When Jimmy asked me where I bought the phone, I told him that I bought it from him, because I did. He responded with denial, even though I have a receipt to prove it. Rather than standing by his merchandize, he refused to replace the battery unless I bought one, even though it was extremely unhealthy for a phone that is less than a year old, as various other sources informed me. After gathering my options within Jimmy's store, he sold me a 20-watt charger. Had this iPhone not been dying so quickly, I would have discovered that such chargers cost less than $25. Instead, I ignorantly paid Jimmy $66. To add insult to injury, that $66 charger stopped working today (less than 5 months later). I was the last person I know to ever buy a SMART phone, but only the first person to ever regret buying one, and Jimmy may be the cause. Perhaps the lock-downs and riots of 2020 made survival of small businesses in Downtown Chicago very challenging ever since then. While in his store during my visits, I noticed a pattern of clients entering the store to ask how much something costs there, only to leave without serious consideration. After one of their visits, I recall Jimmy sobbing of how some "don't want to spend any money". Now, I know why they don't! I also recall looking at other items in his store that I ended up buying somewhere else. I'm not the best at estimating the values of used electronics, but I had little difficulty finding better quality for less money somewhere else after passing up his stuff. I wonder if Jimmy's distributers over-charge him as much as he over-charges his customers. I like Jimmy and wish him the best, but his Air Tec business model is damaged, and so is his level of honesty. read more

I recently cracked my IPhone 7 phone screen and came here to have it repaired for $170 which is pretty steep for cost + labor. You can find places who will do it for $100 total which I've paid in the past for the same issue. The screen looks great, HOWEVER, it is very unresponsive to touch. I have to click something 2-3 times to actually make it work and I can only use my thumbs. I've gotten used to it. Today, I noticed that my phone wasn't charging and was perpetually at 1%, kept restarting every 10-15 minutes, and just much slower overall.... so I made an appointment with the Genius Bar at Apple. The man helping me asked me if I got my phone display fixed at a third party store. He told me that when you fix a phone display, you are supposed to take the battery out and there's a high chance that they replaced my battery with another without my knowledge or that he simply messed up the hardware while fixing it. Now I have to buy a new phone for full retail price because Apple can't fix it. I would not go here again nor would I recommend it to anyone. It's a quick fix but not worth ruining your phone in the long run. read more

I went in to get my iPhone 5s screen fixed. The girl was friendly, and showed it to the boss. He came out and told me that he hasn't gotten the new 5s screens in yet, but HIS cost was going to be $210. He even showed me on the computer. He suggested I go to the Apple Store and see what they could do, since I haven't had it very long, but didn't buy the Apple Care. I went to the Apple Store and they sold me the Apple Care, and replaced it all for under $180. I was very appreciative that the owner suggested that, and didn't take me for a ride. My phone battery died in my iPhone 6 during a recent business trip to Chicago. One of the stores was opening a little later than expected and I ended up having to leave to go to work. I am from out of town. When I left my house to come to Chicago I noticed my touch wasn't responsive any more. I figured since it had a small crack it was due to me being clumsy. I had gotten it "fixed" at phone medic for $212 and it took 4 hours. I pop in here on the way to my hotel and he said it's $129 and it'll take 30 min. He told me that the product that was used before was a cheap, junky version and that they ripped my sensor (which I noticed stopped working correctly when I got my phone back) he recommended a case and a glass screen protector. Even with the case and the screen protector, I still walked out saving $50 what I thought I was going to have to shell out. He did a wonderful job and saved me a lot of heartache! read more

These guys fixed my iphone 5 screen after i shattered the glass for $90. I called ahead of time and they quoted me the price and amount of time it would take to fixe the phone. When i got there, they just ran out of parts so they sent someone to get additional screens. I left my phone and came back a couple hours later to pick it up. The only reason i'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is because they ran out of parts, but it didn't matter because i had no problem dropping it and coming back to pick it up. Work Completed Date: September 17, 2012 Approximate Cost: $30.00 Description Of Work: My iphone 3g needed a new battery. So I called checked their hours and was quoted 30 dollars as per the ad and was told it would take 10 minutes. The store was completely empty and the owner/operator rushed to the back to perform the service. Member Comments: Saw the craiglist ad for Airtec Wireless and the price seemed reasonable considering a new battery kit cost 6-10 dollars on ebay. I figured why not let a professional handle it? right? I was so very wrong. I don't mind waiting for good service however if I knew he would disappear for 30 minutes with the phone I would have planned accordingly. He handed me the phone back in its case and I was trusting as he seemed honest and knowledgeable that this 'technician' knew what he was doing. I noticed immediately that my sim tray/sim were missing. Red Flag#1. I went back in and he immediately denied that I handed him the phone with a sim tray in it. He went to the back and muttered something at me and handed me the phone. I was in a hurry but upon inspecting the phone more closely i noticed a 1 inch crack on the back that wasn't there before. Red Flag #2 but I figured, well maybe thats normal when changing the battery? I looked even closer and finally noticed that the back of my iphone was now missing two wear marks down the middle of the backing and was missing an adjoining screw and a piece of plastic where the screw use to go. My apple logo had rubbed off some time ago and this backing had a visible one . Honest mixup/mistake? Maybe.you be the judge. Read on. I had to run errands and I already spent too much time at this store and figured I will call him later and politely explain to him that in replacing my battery he must have 'accidentally' gave me the wrong backing. So I did just that. I called him and he remembered me because he forgot to give me back my sim tray. He denied any wrong doing before I could even get the question out. Started yelling at me that he is 100% sure that he did nothing wrong. All before I could even give him an out by suggesting he made an honest mistake in reassembling my phone. He told me he could 'nothing for me and 'if I like he could show his work table in the back to show me that there are no other iphones back there like mine?' He voluntarily went on to explain that 'he has no use' and 'has never stolen parts off a customer's phone. ' What a strange thing to say. I never asked him any of that. I just wanted the backing to my iphone back that said 8gb and my extra screw. He then hung up on me. Needless to say I will not be using him again anytime soon read more

Air Tec was recommended to me by a friend who had a good experience and mine was good too. It was more affordable than the Apple Store and the customer service was exceptional. I took my iPhone 7 in for a cracked screen repair. It was fixed in 20 minutes and cost $50 less than what Apple quoted me. The man who did the repair was very friendly and accommodating, he put on a screen protector free of charge and when said I was going run to get cash at my bank down the street (there is an ATM in the shop but I wanted to avoid the fee) he took the fee off of my bill so I wouldn't have to make the trip, which I appreciated very much. I've had some minor issues since the repair, such as the brightness will dim automatically at times so I periodically have to bring it back up to full brightness and sometimes I have to tap the screen harder than usual. I plan to return to see if I can get these problems fixed since the initial repair has been under 30 days. I would recommend Air Tec to anyone who is looking for an affordable repair. read more

Today was a freezing cold day. I should have called before I walked to the store from work. I got there at 10 and had to wait almost 40 minutes for the store to open (they were that late). I was impressed that I was able to drop my iPhone 5 off and pick it up when the cracked screen was fixed. I was very impressed with how it looked with the new screen. He checked the microphone and even the camera. I walked back to work where I received a text from my wife, but the phone didn't vibrate. I checked the settings and made sure the phone was on silent, it was. I called my phone from work and sure enough it didn't vibrate. Called the store back, walked back again and the owner checked. He forgot to reattach that cable. He was very nice about this, gave me a free screen protector and I was on my way 10 minutes later. Very happy that he was responsible and willing to fix his mistake.
