If you watch YouTube videos, you'll see house fires caused by not clearing out the vent, leading from your dryer to outside the house.. Overtime, that can get backed up by dust, lint, birds' nests, etc. I've had all of this stuffing up my vent, making my clothes even harder to dry, if at all.. Anyway, my neighbor recommended Steve and Zach, a father and son team, and they're both very down to earth and hard working... Take a look at my pics, that's only half of the stuff that came out. After chatting for a few minutes about the location of my home and the area, he said he would come out to inspect the air ducts. Steve arrived on time and was very thorough in his inspection and found that my first-floor ducts had rusted out and would need to be replaced, and cleaning would be no use. Steve was amazingly courteous and provided me with the information and pictures to present to my management company to have the vents replaced. I met with Steve and he is great. He came to my place to see if he could even clean the vents due to the architectural style of our home. Unfortunately, he said that due to the style of our duct work, that he could not clean the vents. He also said that they really weren't dirty and told me how to clean them with a vacuum. He also gave me some advice on how often to change the filters to maximize keeping the dusty out of our house. Steve is a rare breed in the service industry--an honest, kind businessman with integrity. Long story short--after seeing what I had, he opted to tell me I didn't need his services instead of doing the job anyway and charging me money. I thought I had mold in the HVAC unit in my condo. The HVAC unit is nearly 30 years old, and was engineered by some particular kind of moron. After speaking with a number of mold "experts" and HVAC cleaners, I found Steve who was the only one who seemed to be familiar with the type of system I had and the proper procedures for dealing with mold in an HVAC system. He also reassured me that it's usually just dust and dirt, not toxic mold. He came out, and it turns out our arcane HVAC units stumped even him (he was familiar with a similar type). He examined the unit and had some discussion with the building engineer who happened to be in the lobby when he arrived. Ultimately he said he'd love to charge me money, but it really wasn't worth it--he couldn't use the industrial brushes on the insulation without potentially ruining it; he wouldn't be able to reach the whole duct because of the design; and what he could hand vac would be so small that my building or even I could do it for a lot less. He felt there wasn't anything to worry about in the unit, maybe some mildew and said the air purifier I had purchased and the filters were my best strategy. He came all the way downtown, did the inspection and didn't charge me anything. I offered to pay him a "consultation" fee and he declined. Also--my appointment was at 9am. At 8:59am Steve called and said they were a few minutes behind, on the next street and would be there soon. I almost did not understand what was happening--I've had cable people, repair people, delivery people be 45 minutes late with a 4 or 6 hour window and never call. Who expects someone to be on time? Steve arrive at approximately 9:06am, which I would have considered on time even if he hadn't called. Very professional and scrupulously honest! read more

Called Steve on a Tuesday to see about getting our ducts cleaned after removing our chimney and doing some concrete work in our basement. He gave me a price upfront for up to 10 vents and the per vent price after that. He promised that there are no hidden charges or additional fees. The price is the price. We really needed our ducts cleaned so we could turn our furnace back on and not blow filth through our house. He said he could come next day, Thursday was better for us, no problem. I moved into my place this past May. The townhouse is 20 years old, and I wasn't sure if the ducts, vents and system had ever been cleaned. This morning Steve and Zach arrived at my home with huge smiles and a firm handshake. I should have known then that they were going to be pleasant to do business with. They began at the furnace end of our home and opened the ducts. Soon after Steve came to find me and said "as much as I would like to make money today, here is a picture of your supply and return ducts and they are not that bad." He suggested that we have our ducts cleaned with 2-3 years. In this day and age where honesty is a rare commodity - it was refreshing to have Steve share this information with me. A less reputable firm might have simply cleaned my ducts and charged me full price. Not Airborne. 4-29-2011 I had made arrangement to have air-duct cleaning done at no charge to me when I purchased a new furnace and Central A/C from another company, Emmanuel Brothers Heating and Cooling. (I would also highly recommend them!) Steve Larson and his son came out promptly. They cleaned the ducts of my house, approximately 2000 square feet, built in 1949.The ducts had never been cleaned. They set up and worked for about a half of day. At the end of the session, they showed me how much dust and dirt they had cleared out which was considerable. Apparently Steve is a master instructor of duct cleaning and one of the people responsible for developing the standards of practice for doing the job right. We just finished having our wood floors installed and sanded and new drywall up with sanding, felt like we were living in a dust bowl. After they arrived, they took a picture of the ducts and determined that my ducts are made of a papery material, which they were afraid could be harmed by their powerful equipment. They explained everything to me and apologized that they could not clean my ducts. I was so appreciative and impressed with their honesty. I am so impressed with their honesty. At the recommendation of a mold technician, I chose Airborne over a cheaper option that I had used before. They arrived and after an inspection told me that my ducts looked clean and that they might do more harm than good by stirring up some unwanted dust. They told me to leave them alone.
