I'm a new homeowner. I recently bought a house built in the 1940s, and while we love the place, it has a... smell. The previous owners had dogs, cats, and a penchant for leaving food, old shoes, and other trash behind and under the appliances. After living here for about a month, doing SO much cleaning, and still feeling like we were in an allergen pit, we opted for duct cleaning. Karl was friendly and communicative with a competitive price. Christian and Zeke came to the house early. They treated the home with respect, wearing shoe covers and cleaning up diligently, despite it being a dirty job. They had different methods for different vent styles, and helped with a few above and beyond tasks, like re-shaping a bent duct. Christian and Zeke suggested that the ducts of my home had never been cleaned, ever, based on the quantity and type of stuff they were finding. It seemed like a pretty intense job, but they were in good spirits the whole time. My dog was nervous about all the noisy tools- shop-vacs, leaf blowers, etc.- but the guys were so sweet to her, she wanted them to stay. I'm not kidding, the air quality is IMMEDIATELY better in this house, and the smell is wildly improved- maybe even gone. After this issue we contacted the owner and he refused to answer phones. His employee came to assess the issue and also said that they caused the problem since the space was not like that prior to the service. The employee tried to resolve the issue, but the owner did not care. We asked for insurance and he would not give it. We contacted the BBB to help with the issue and Ugly Ductling did not respond to them. In order for the place to be in living condition again we had to hire a professional cleaning service. That cost an additional 5k. This company does not care about customers at all. It's a quick in and out job to them. I highly recommend never using them. read more

Excellent experience with Ugly Ductling! Christian and James did the cleaning of my air duct and dryer. They actually saved me from a potential fire because my dryer wasn't not hooked and there was paper near the igniter! They cleaned all of my vents as well as my dryer in under 30 minutes. It was filthy because I haven't had it cleaned in a while. Although I wish I would have asked to see the dust in the machine just to measure how much dust had accumulated over 3 years. I feel good that I am breathing cleaner air and do not notice dust everywhere like before. I do think the pricing of the duct cleaning is a bit expensive for an apartment unit and the amount of time it took to clear out dust. Armed with a portable vacuum and a leaf blower to treat a 13 unit condo. Worst of all vendors in my 20 years living here. Flexible duct was not detached from dryer and cleaned per proposal. Tech told us we had to call Stanley Steemer for that service. Paid 895.00 for tech to vacuum out dryer drum and lint catch on 13 dryers. Comes out to almost $70 a dryer. What a racket. Didn't even clean the exit vent. See photo. Called Karl, the owner, to voice my concern. He said he'd look into it and call me the next day. That was a week ago. However, what I liked was I called later in the evening and received a phone call the next morning to schedule and they came out the following day (Saturday) to perform the work which was a dryer vent cleaning. Three man team was done in less than an hour for 2 hvac systems. We were surprised how fast they were. They brought shop vac and hand held vacuums to suck the vents. They didn't remove the vent covers to clean the vents either. Easy appointment and they were able to get us in during the same week. We had renovation work done around the house prior to them coming so we needed our ducts cleaned from all the sanding and construction work. Two weeks after our ducts were cleaned one of our hvac started leaking water. We had a contractor come take a look for repair. One of the guys from Ugly Ductling did not put the air filter in properly causing the system to have no air flow; which caused the leak. During the repairs we were informed the ducts still had lots of dirty stuff. It wasn't cleaned. And the air filter that Ugly Ductling put in had lots of dirty dusts on it already; given it's only been 2 weeks! This led us to think the air duct cleaning wasn't a good job since it was done in less than an hour for 2 hvac systems. Also costed our hvac system to leak water. I hired Ugly Ductling to clean my vents and ducts and since they completed their work I've had problems with my furnace and dryer. I have never had issues with the furnace or dryer as both them are less than 5 years old. When trying to contact Ugly Ductling I would never get call backs to resolve the issues. I ended up having to hire a contractor to come out and fix my dryer which costed me $200+ on top of the Ugly Ductling fee. I would highly suggest that you consider other options. Ugly Ductling's workers were in and out of my unit so fast and didn't take their time in conducting the work right. They were more worried about getting to the next job than doing my the right way. Update: I had thought it was just a miscommunication issue before, but from the owner's response, I started to think they just used to lie all time. When I call them on the 19th, they NEVER offered to come on that day! I did ask what they could do about it and he kept saying nothing they could do, they have booked all the way until a week away! I raised my voice a little bit (if you call that Yelling) because of that! He never said any single "Sorry" at all, and it clearly that he is not trying at all to help! Called them last Thurday March 14 and he said they will come "next Tuesday" to do the work. Nobody showed up today and I called him, he said they booked my for next Tuesday March the 26! I told them clearly during booking that we need it done by Thurday the 21 before we move in, and he never mentioned "next Tuesdays" means 12 days later! We end up with moving in with a very dirty duct full of construction dust. Terrible terrible service. read more

My dryer started having some issues, and the dry time had slow down drastically overnight- I needed to run several cycles just for a couple items. I was worried about a blockage, I called ugly ductling and they were able to clean both the duct and the dryer out. (Some other places I called would only do ductwork and then refer someone to come out and look at the dryer) So being able to find someone to clean out both the dryer and the duct was incredible! Even better they were able to send someone out the same day.. my dryer is working now and is drying a full load on a single dry cycle. Both owners are incredibly nice! I spoke to one on the phone and the other was actually the technician who came out to service my dryer!! The techs were right on time, very polite and with a good sense of humor. My poor cat was terrified, and they carefully worked around his hiding place with minimum extra noise. My air vents were atrocious, and my dryer was nearly a fire hazard-- but an hour later, it's all safe and clean thanks to Ugly Ductling. First, I think the work they did was good, $400 good, we'll see how cool our place gets. What gets me is the guys that came in (a 1/2 late after our 8am appt time - not like they had an appt before us to be fair), and asked us TWICE why we called their boss. They cleaned ducts in my 6-unit condo building. Right away, I noticed that my dryer stopped drying and was damp. After a phone call, Christian and Stan came within a couple of days and found the issue within 5 minutes. They were great! (As a result of the cleaning, lint had build up right where the duct met the outside.) they double checked the inside as well, and were gone within 10-15 minutes. They did not charge for this visit.
