Sunshine Air Conditioning, Inc - HVAC Tech helping customer understand thermostat functions

I've used other local companies and Sunshine has been hands down the best in service! Ray, the sales manager, is always responsive, knowledgeable and easy to communicate with. I am a picky customer and I highly recommend Sunshine Air Conditioning without reservation.

When the technician arrived, one of the first things he asked my mom was how she was going to pay. He then told her that he would not do the work unless she showed him some form of payment. My mom showed him the card she planned to use. I found this extremely uncomfortable and honestly a little offensive. We would not schedule an appointment to have work done if we did not have the money to pay for it. Since this happened on a Friday evening, I called the company and left a voicemail. I did receive a call first thing Monday morning from Addy, who has always been very nice and professional with us. I asked her directly about what happened, and she explained that this is how the company conducts business because they have had customers schedule appointments, have the work completed, and then not pay. She said that customers are asked to show proof of payment when the technician arrives. I thanked her for explaining and hung up. But afterward, I couldn't stop thinking about the situation. I wondered whether we would have been treated the same way if my parents lived in The Villages or in a large, expensive home. I also couldn't help but wonder whether our last name being Perez played any part in how we were approached. I understand that a business needs to protect itself from customers who don't pay. However, there are professional ways to establish payment policies before sending a technician to someone's home. If proof of payment is required from every customer, that should be clearly explained when the appointment is scheduled--not when a technician is already standing inside an elderly customer's home telling her he will not perform the work until she proves she can pay. After being loyal customers for years, the interaction left me disappointed and questioning whether we should continue doing business with this company. It probably won't make much of a difference to the company whether we choose to come back or not, but I still felt this experience was worth mentioning. Sometimes the way a policy is communicated and handled can make just as much of an impression as the service itself.

Clearly, the part I cannot clean. To me, this isn't what was promised on the $59 tune-up bait they sent out. My unit is 4 years old. Fast Air, sold me and installed the new system. They cleaned and tuned up my unit 2x a year every year. Except I missed my two tuneups last year due to renovations at my home. How can a new unit "cleaned" 2x a year become a $900+ clean out in one year? I change my filter 1x a month regardless of how it looks. I clean the drain to outside 1x a month in the summer and once in the winter. He even said my discharge from the drain was very clean. Did the coil get that dirty because for 4 years it's never been cleaned? A vacuum was never run for the handler. So it's dirty, we leave it? How is this cleaning to almost factory condition like their "bait" letter promises? 26 high impact procedures for the tune-up. Oh and because it's dirty with dust and hair, he suggests that I need a new component outside that isn't kicking in at full capacity. The part is under warranty, but it's $215 to install. I'm feel so angry and upset. I paid $8,000 for this from that company and I still don't have it paid off yet. So after just four years, I need a $1,215 repair? I don't really know why I'm giving two stars. He showed up, took pictures, checked the ducts and cleaned the pipe I already clean and the drip pan I don't know how to get to. So I guess he can have stars for that.
