The chef even came to our table enquiring whether or not we liked the food and asked us if we felt any changes should be made. The service was superb; our water glasses were continually being refilled; almost as soon as our plates were empty they were cleared from our table; throughout our meal at least five servers hovered over our group frequently inviting us to try different food items and asking if they could get us anything else to drink. Before booking a reservation for the Saturday night roast beef dinner buffet offered by the Royal Coach Dining Room at the Chateau Louis Hotel, we checked their website to view the menu/prices. As the menu from Saturday night, December 23 had not been updated on their website, we first called the restaurant to inquire if they were still having the same buffet on Saturday night, December 30. We were advised, 'yes,' the buffet was also going ahead the following weekend. When we arrived on December 30, we were disappointed to discover that the buffet items had been severely cut back from December 23 ... yet the price was still the same, not cheaper. We had really been looking forward to the roast turkey with cranberry walnut dressing, cioppino, basil cream gnocchi, apple cinnamon cake, pistachio rice pudding ... none of these items was, in fact, served at this buffet, yet we were still expected to pay the higher price as advertised for the fully stocked buffet the weekend before. While the food choices were okay, we were disappointed to attend a buffet with only 5 hot dishes, where 3 of the 5 items were steamed veggies, mashed potatoes, and rice. There are no dinner buns (someone in our group was a meat/potatoes/bread man), and coffee is extra at this buffet. (My personal opinion - for the full price charged for a reduced buffet, coffee should really be included.) If considering making a reservation for the buffet offered at this restaurant, be sure to call beforehand (better speak with someone knowledgeable like the restaurant manager) to inquire if they are serving the food items as advertised on their website, as the price doesn't get reduced when several menu items are struck off the list.

I arrived bright and early and luckily was able to check in right away. Whenever I stay in a hotel I request being on a higher floor, so that I get a nice city view. So I was happy to be put up on the 6th floor that overlooked Whyte Ave and the city of Edmonton. A couple things to know: + The location of this hotel is perfect - right at the heart of Whyte Ave. There are plenty of bars, coffee shops, restaurants, and shops within a 5 minute walking distance. + Complimentary wine happy hour. I wasn't able to make it to this unfortunately since I was at an event, but if if I was free, y'all know I wouldn't miss the opportunity to sip on some free wine. + Complimentary breakfast buffet w/ all your basic continental goodies. I also did not partake in this complimentary feature, because this lil lady needed to catch up on some zzz's, but from the photos it looked bomb.com. + Comfy beds. I always feel teeny tiny when I sleep in a king bed. I burrito'ed myself in between all the blankets and 5 pillows, and I'm pretty sure if someone came into my room while I was sleeping they wouldn't be able to see me. I'm not sure if it was because I was exhausted or if the beds were just extremely comfy, but I passed out right away and slept through the whole night. + Strong free wifi. I had a lot of work to get done during my trip, so having strong wifi was necessary. Metterra delivered. I'd happily stay here again, hopefully for longer next time!

It was in Sherwood park and very close to their hub. The room was very big, clean and it had a fireplace. It felt very safe and it wasn't busy either. Breakfast was okay. The coffee was decent (I'm a coffee snob) options for bread and bagels and cereal. Yogurt options and then the hot food which wasn't great but no different than any other note of this sort. My only beef was they didn't advise me that their gym was closed. I know I want look for a private gym but I wanted to workout so badly to find out when I arrived that a pipe burst and it was closed!

After parking (more on that later) and walking around to the front entrance of the hotel, stepping inside we were greeted by the buffet. Proceeding past the check in desk and the chef with the omelette station, through the buffet to to the hostess at the entrance of the dining room we were seated at a table for 2 at the back, although I'm not certain why, the dining room wasn't 1/2 filled, and during the hour we were there, did not fill up. We had reservations, made online for the earliest available time slot, 11am, but we could have arrived earlier. The spread... fabulous assortment of fruit, cheese, cold and hot foods, scrambled eggs, a fish, rice, bacon! Turkey (sans stuffing - served separately), carved beast. Desserts - oh my yes! Some uniquely themed for Hallowe'en. For the kids, poo emoji-style cupcakes - very accurate! And there was a chocolate fountain with fruit, marshmallows, trays of cookies, muffins, croissants... such choices! And an omelette bar... I was so full, there was no way I could manage another bite. Chef is allergy aware, although the foods were not individually marked for what they were safe. Chef did walk me through the buffet and as a celiac eating gluten free the food was pretty straightforward - almost everything was safe to eat, and it was pretty obvious what wasn't - stuffing, muffins etc. We noticed there were a number of mobility ramps to access the building, however none of the doors that met the ramps were open... not certain how someone with mobility needs would get inside as the main entrance has 2 steps up. Call ahead and make arrangements would be the best plan. And an added bonus tip! Did you know you could drive down into the park to the Hotel and park? I did not! Just watch for the signs, chat with the lovely folk manning the gatehouse, and toodle past the 1st stop sign and you'll see the red brick building and parking behind. There are a couple of bicycle racks too, but this Sunday was just too chilly for a ride to the park. There are 3 paved/concrete handicapped spots right next to the ramp, but... warning, it's a jaunt across an unpaved parking lot to get to the ramp.

Guests are required to pre-purchase tickets and reserve a place at each Sunday sitting, at which the hotel lays out the full gamut of delicious brunch offerings, from domestic and imported cheeses, to a full-service omelette station, regular brunch items like bacon and eggs, and a pork shoulder carving station complete with mustard, horseradish, and apple gravy sides (although I believe the carving station rotates its meat, since Linda had roast beef when she visited). The charm and rustic interior of the café adds a unique touch to the brunch experience, with solid wooden tables and the 1920s style of Hotel Selkirk. The quiet and classic environment of Fort Edmonton Park is a nice change from the bustle of our city. I was pleasantly impressed with the food, particularly the carvery pork shoulder. Among my favourites were the Guinness-braised beef ribs (not entirely gluten free but I couldn't help myself), the selection of cheeses, and a salmon fillet in a creamy sauce. There were so many delicious things to choose from that I filled my plate the first time around, leaving no room for a custom omelette--on my plate or in my stomach. The next time I visit, I plan on making a beeline to the omelette station at once. The dessert options were also endless. Fruit, homemade caramel fudge, cakes, mousse--everything looked amazing, with full bowls surrounding the hotel's main dessert centrepiece: the chocolate fountain. What's the perfect way to finish off a decadently indulgent brunch? Why, with freshly-made chocolate covered strawberries, of course. Of the dessert offerings, I thoroughly enjoyed the chocolate mousse and the orange rosemary and pernod shooter (I don't usually like anise, but this was refreshing). While some brunch buffets really fail to push the boundaries of imagination in their selection, Hotel Selkirk does quite the opposite, offering a little gourmet something for everyone. Chefs were constantly coming out from the kitchen with new platters to replace dishes that were only half empty. The attentiveness to items like the scrambled eggs and the fruit was impressive--everything was kept fresh and well-stocked, never left out long enough to grow even slightly stale. The price is reasonable for an all-you-can-eat brunch buffet, as well. At $32.95 per person (adults), you get access to a delicious menu within a spacious and comfortable dining area--that's significantly less costly than brunch at La Ronde, with more room and a fresh, modern selection of food. If you have a special occasion coming up or just fancy an outstanding Sunday brunch, then Hotel Selkirk is the place to be!

The bus is LOUD. The constant banging from the sign on the passenger side destination display is just absurd. Some padding (hell, a pool noodle would do the trick!) is cheap and would eliminate the problem entirely, and would be easy to hide. There's just no excuse for that much rattling for something I fixed by putting my finger there just to see if that would work: It did. The squeaking from loose seats is annoying, and coupling that in with the rattling from that sign for every bump and crack on the highway, I had to put earbuds in to drown the rattling out. Lastly: There are two check lights lit up on the dash. Why is maintenance not being done? Even if it's minor, how do we as passengers know that? My safety is in YOUR hands, it's what I pay you for. My life is worth something to me, even if it isn't to you. Fix your busses. There's zero excuses for engine lights and rattling and banging and squeaking.

Not every place has to be 5 star to work just fine. Argyll Plaza Hotel is one such example. It's a…read moresmall hotel embedded in a strip mall. The rooms are big enough and with reasonably comfortable beds. No frills and no soft touch to the decor, but nonetheless functional and usable. The hall to the rooms is brick extruded giving the place a cell-block feel, but past that everything works just fine. It's a non-smoking hotel so the rooms are not smelly or stuffy. The temperature is set warm which you'd expect for Canadian winters. The bedding is also extra thick for those who need extra padding. The hotel Wi-Fi works just fine and the TV channel selection is basic cable. The only problems you might encounter are the occasional noise bleed from concerts at Union Hall (next door) or Rosie's Bar (downstairs). Price was very low $58 (Cdn) so the value was excellent.

One word, Bedbugs! The rooms were big and slightly older except the renovated bathrooms (which were…read morevery nice). At first glance you'd think the room was clean but after some investigating after finding a bedbug there were stains all over the sheets and mattress. It's unfortunate that this place didn't work out because it was conveniently located with a great Mexican restaurant across the street. Thank god I was up late at night because I found bedbug crawling across my pillow thanks to the brightness on my phone screen. We got a full refund from the morning staff but the next day the manager only wanted to compensate us $20 to clean all of our clothing and bags. We ended up taking the hit and just decided to do all the cleaning ourselves since we were visiting from out of province and had the feeling we wouldn't hear from them after leaving. With the inconvenience of this infestation, we ended up paying much more due to the hotel change and the cleaning.
