I've heard many good things about Aji, and I was glad to finally try them! They were pretty empty for Sunday lunch (which I don't mind at all!), so service was quick and kind. We tried their lomito saltado and arrocito norteno. They didn't provide any aji sauce for the lomito (surprising) but were quick to bring some when we requested it. The beef was very tender! So although definitely more expensive than more casual Peruvian spots, we could taste the quality. I also loved the arrocito norteno, as I love seafood paella, and this was basically that. The scallops and octopus were so good! This place is a bit more luxe than the other Peruvian places I've tried before, which is reflected in their price. Although we were there in the day, I could imagine this place being a cute date spot at night. Glad to try this main stay in Long Beach and would recommend for a bit more upscale meal (although no pressure to dress nice at all, just seems like that vibe). read more

A serendipitous turn in fortunes found my Wife & I travelling towards "Home Sweet Home" after the original Peruvian restaurant we had chosen to have dinner at was closed for a private party. Aji on 4th Streets Retro Row delivered the goods as my Wife & I had journeyed down to Peru in 2024 and from Lima, Cusco and Puno. The flavours encompassed in the dishes we'd ordered which were the Lomito Saltado and the Aji De Gallina were as authentic here as what we dined on back in 2024 which certifies them as premier purveyors of Peruvian cuisine. Drinks wise, they had Maracuya juice which is their local version of passionfruit in that region as well as Chicha Morada which is their Purple Corn beverage composed of cinnamon, cloves, fresh lime juice and when in Peru, they'll utilize pineapple husks for flavouring. It apparently is more popular in Peru than Coca-Cola and after a few sips you'll inevitably see why. Next up when I return will be the Causa trio, in the meanwhile this establishment comes heavily recommended from someone who has traveled to Peru as they hit the nail on the head with their offerings. read more

My second time here and it was as great as the first experience almost a year ago. It happened to be last Friday on Retro Row so it brought everyone out tonight. We arrived in the nick of time and got a table right on the patio which was perfect for people watching. Everyone walking up and down for a night of fun, shopping and enjoying the street vendors. It was pretty busy already inside when we arrived but there was an empty table on the patio which we were glad to have. Service was great, same as the last visit. The menu, I believe it's still the same. Amazing dishes that were had and can't wait to have again. We started off with their house sangria and a bottle beer. Sangria was quite tasty but there wasn't any fruit added to it besides a slice of orange as an adornment. Still tasty. Beer was one of the Peruvian beer on hand. Both drink was tasty and very refreshing. They have quite an array of drinks, more on the wine and bubble than the beers which are bottled. For food, a nice selections on starters and mains. Started off with their ceviche which they had a few options to choose from. It was between their classic or the tuna ceviche which is basically something similar to poke. And of course their fried banana (plantain) served with a honey paprika aioli. Plus their chips with cheese sauce was also brought out. Entrees, the chicken linguine and seafood curry. Both delicious. Breakdown for the dishes. -Ceviche Clasico- halibut, leche de tigre, aji limon, onion, cilantro , yams and Peruvian corn. If you like a classic ceviche, this is the one. That perfect fish bite with the sour juice and paired with sweet yams and corn. It was fantastic. Nice big chunks of the halibut. -Fried Bananas (plantain) served with honey paprika aioli. I love plantains but didn't remember the honey dip the last time we were here. It's sweet enough already but does work well with the honey. It's a side dish. -Tallarin Saltado De Pollo (chicken pasta)- chicken saltado with linguine pastas, onions, tomatoes, cilantro and soy sauce. The pairing with soy was great. Not something I would normally think pasta sauce would be but it worked with everything all tossed together. The nice big chunks of tomatoes and big chunks of chicken, it was delicious and pretty hefty in portion. Last time we had the steak version which I highly recommend. -Pescado A La Macho- pan seared grouper fish filet, shrimp, calamari, octopus, spicy creamy sofrito and steamed rice. Another favorite dish that was had both this and last visit. The rich creamy curry and the nice chunks of fishes worked so well together. Everything was perfectly flavorful and delicious with the rice. A must get. The food was excellent. Same as I remembered. The flavors were all unique in its own way. Each and every dish was excellent even the chips with the cheese sauce that was brought out. Nicely thin and a nice crunch to it. Service was amazing as well. Found this spot of yelp and decided to stop by for a bite to eat! The food was delicious. We got the ceviche nikkei that was so flavorful and the tallarines verdes! Very clean and well kept. Only docking a star because the service was a bit slow and unfortunately had a waitress who after calling her multiple times, would look at us and continue her conversation with other customers. This time we ordered takeout, as finding parking on a Friday evening can be a pain. We ordered the Chicken Empanada and Chaufa with chicken. Both the dishes were outstanding. Empanada were fried not baked, but tasted so good. The accompanying chimichurri was fresh and delicious. The Chaufa was excellent. I could eat it everyday. My must go Peruvian restaurant. I ordered for pick up here and drove to the location fyi i think they gave parking in the back but i parked on the street. The place inside looks very charming. I read over the menu while i waited for my food i think they have some great dine in happy hour specials. For my pick up experience service was fast. I did have to order the green sauce and i did feel like they should automatically include that because what if i forgot. I love the green sauce. I ordered the limo saltado i will tell you that i felt like it was a bit overpriced for Peruvian food in my opinion but it was pretty good to be honest. First of all, Rosita is great! She made my first experience here so nice! Rosita is so welcoming & sweet! I came alone so I ordered only Classic ceviche 10/10 Soooo good. Rosita told me in Peru you drink the "tiger's milk" and to not waste it. So I listened of course! Roasted caesar salad 8/10 I usually like an extremely dressed salad but roasted salad sounded interesting and it was good! At the suggestion of a friend we decided to try out Aji Peruvian Cuisine. We managed to snag one of the few parking spots behind the restaurant, but otherwise street parking is your best bet. The prices definitely reflected this as well, though portions were generous and presentation was beautiful. The homemade potato chips with homemade aioli was also a nice complimentary starter, though the chips were a bit too salty for me. The food was very tasty. We ordered tallarines en huancaína con apanado, ceviche clásico, and jalea. The chica morada was a bit sweet (we prefer it more tart) and I was missing the crunchy dried corn in the ceviche. We finished with the flan which had orange zest incorporated into the custard, which elevated this dish. What stood out the most was the incredibly kind service, with presumably one of the chef/owners coming out to converse with all of the diners. Our waitress was also warm and friendly. My mom, daughter and I were looking for a place to eat last week and stumbled into this place because I wanted to try something new. I'm a fan of Peruvian food and had heard so many great things about this place but I was sadly not a fan, and I'm not sure I'd return because it was just too expensive for only three of us, one being a child. The service was great and the restaurant was beautiful, spacious and clean, although cold where we were sitting. The wall where the bar is was also quite a sight. Great hospitality with kind staff, but that just isn't enough for me to come back at that price point. For starters, they do not have a kids menu or half size portion options, so not exactly family friendly if you're dining out with smaller kids. We ordered three plates and no appetizers nor dessert, and just one adult drink and it was over $100 before tip. The portions were okay, with the least expensive item having the most leftover: partially because it was what my daughter ordered. She quite enjoyed the green pasta, and honestly, it was probably one of my favorite items of the night. The chicken was a bit over-cooked and hard for her to chew around the edge. My mom and I both agreed that her chupe de camarones was very salty, it was overwhelming to eat. My lomo saltado... I don't even know where to begin. The rice and the fries were my favorite items of the meal though. Half the pieces of meat where just too hard to chew or even cut through. At first I thought it was because the meat was over-cooked/well-done, but they were still pink in the middle. Maybe it was the method they were cooked? Perhaps it's just coincidence that I got many bad cuts of meat? I don't know. But for $40 a plate, I was underwhelmed and disappointed. We didn't say anything in person because we were all hungry and the food had already taken a long time to get to us. Plus my daughter was getting antsy. So we just made the best of it and enjoyed it as best as we could. This was my second time at Aji Peruvian Cuisine. The food here is the closest you can get to fine dining while still maintaining reasonable pricing! Entree sizes are large and filling, so I'd recommend ordering one entree and a few appetizers to split between two people. My favorite dish was the Papa Rellena de Carne - it incorporated the perfect balance of sweet and savory. It was about $85 before tax and tip for one entree, two appetizers, and a beer. This is an elevated casual setting that would be great for a birthday dinner or date night. We had a nice waitress inform us that Peruvian cuisine food has Cantonese influence which was an interesting fun fact that I wasn't aware of as a Chinese person. I have been coming here for over a decade and it is by far the BEST Peruvian food in all of So Cal! The service is amazing; with the owner also working as a server and providing stellar 5 star service. Even after years of not coming in she instantly remembered me and gave me a hug. The Absolute Worst Experience Ever! Do not waste your time or money here! The owner (Rosita) and the servers (Carolina and others) are crazy rude! It's actually truly unbelievable! And when she finally lets us back in, she (Carolina) proceeds to yell at me and verbally assault me in front of the whole restaurant - for her own bad behavior! Ha! Absolutely unacceptable & unbelievable! I tell the ridiculous manager/ owner and her response "oh well she's been here for a long time, never had complaints before..." What does that even mean? Doesn't excuse locking out customers and then yelling at them? What the what?!!! Not my first time at this place. Again a pattern I've experienced multiple times over the past year and a half. No wonder they are virtually empty most nights of the week. My server again (Sayuri) tonight was amazing, but I will never ever go back to this crazy restaurant! Better management & training! Came here with a friend for dinner on a Tuesday night and found this place to be pretty good, but didn't quite reach the 5 star mark for me. Our server was nice, but a little weird? Don't know how to even describe it lol. We were also sat in a 2 top table but like right under the register. I thought it was a weird spot to even sit someone, and considering the restaurant wasn't that busy, the spot was odd. As far as the food. The complementary chips with sauce as the beginning are a nice add. I actually liked them a lot. We also ordered a ceviche as well as a lomo saltado. The food here is honestly pretty good. The spicy sauce that's around the ceviche was fire, and I'd say that the look saltado was overall pretty good. I think for the price point though, it's definitely a bit expensive. We had two drinks and an app and the lomo saltado and it was well over $120+ with the tip. I guess you can say it's more of an "upscale" Peruvian place, but honestly I'd probably still stick to Casa Chaskis or something similar. read more

My friend that lives in the Long Beach area invited me to dinner at this place on a Tuesday around 7:30pm. I was able to find street parking. The servers are friendly, greet you when coming in and checking on you throughout your meal and saying goodbye. I had the Apollo Saltado which was pretty tasty, I ate everything. My friend had Arazz Chaufa and the plantains that he didn't finish and got it to go. The total came to around $78. It wasn't too crowded. The bathroom was clean. The sauce, spices and fish were out of this world! We definitely will be coming back for this specific dish. We also enjoyed their platinos!
