I'm so sad, I've live in Long Beach all my life and always wanted to try this place since it was close to home. I didn't realize how huge inside was, don't let the corner door fool you. It was beautiful inside, I was excited to try their food. We went for Happy hours, their margaritas was buy one get one free. For the price it was good amount. When we got seated it was just the two of us and another couple. The server took our orders right away. Ordered the chicken, beef and shrimp empanadas and shrimp ceviche. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! At this point it was just the two of us and the server. Waited roughly 45 minutes for our food because it looks like the server decided to take a lunch while we wait for our food. The server did not check on us or apologize to us that it was taking a while for the food to come out until she saw the frustration on our face and inform us the food is almost ready! 45 minutes later, she brought out the empanadas and I received two chicken and one shrimp... it was OK with the help of the sauces that was given. The shrimp ceviche was actually good, the shrimp was cooked perfectly. Here's the thing, the menu does not have prices on it and when we received the bill, the ceviche was $22! Me and the misses were cruising the streets at night and we just wanted something good to eat, and we stumbled upon this place. It was a little bit early, so the restaurant was completely empty which means service was very quick. I ordered steak with rice beans on the side. The food did not take very long to come out, and there was an assortment of sauces to add to the steak. The meal was not the best. The shell pastry was good, but the filling was pureed chicken and/or beef, which felt like baby food. Where is the real meat with textures and vegetables that are customary in Colombia? The other things, like the chicharron and platanos, were ordinary at best by Colombian standards. I have been to numerous small cafes all over Colombia, in cities and Villages, and have had much better (and fresher) food for less money, which, to be fair, is not their fault on that point. BUT you should really cook what are relatively simple foods much better and use quality ingredients. Colombian food is delicious when done right. El Paisa will have my respect for the prices they charge if they raise their quality. I just celebrated my birthday here with family and friends. Food was on point! Delicious. They went out of their way especially Andy & Mitzy. They gave me a special birthday hat to wear, put up a banner, recommend balones, didn't charge a plating fee for cake. It was so authentic and a 10 out of ten! I've been wanting to try this place for a while. My Columbia friend was in town so I decided to finally try the place out. The server was extremely rude. My Spanish isn't the best but I can get by pretty good. But he chose to ignore me the entire restaurant experience, only addressing my Columbian friend whose Spanish was better. Her food came out and it took an additional 30 minutes to have just one tamale come out for me. It wasn't until I went up to the counter, the one tamale finally came out. But to my disgust they served me this overcooked, extremely watery tamale. I took a bite and it tasted so disgusting, watery and bland. I immediately showed the server the picture of the tamale they have advertised on their menu, compared to what they served me. My Columbia friend even told the server that's not what it's supposed to taste or look like. As he continued to dismiss me and not talk to me, even tho it was my dish. I just told him I didn't want anything else to reorder. My friend finished half of her dish and reported some of the flavors are off. But we ended up walking down the street to the Salvi restaurant and got exceptional food and service. Would not recommend this place! To the servers surprise it must have been when he tried to give my friend the bill to pay and I took it as I was the one treating. I had gotten takeout from here before, but it was my first time dining in. The interior was decorated for the holidays and had lively music playing throughout the meal. My server was friendly, though he forgot to bring a spoon for my soup and never came to refill water or check on me during the meal. The menu is extensive, and I decided to order both ajiaco (chicken soup) and bandeja típica, with intention to have leftovers. Portions are quite large, even for someone with a big appetite like me. The white rice was a bit hard for me, but the food overall was very tasty. I have had their sancocho de cola de res before (oxtail soup), which was fantastic. I wish they had mondongo! The soup came in a ceramic bowl that reminded me of Korean stews. The authentic food took me back to my trip to Bogotá. Prices are a little high, but again, portions are large so it's a good value. Highly recommend El Paisa for some yummy Colombian food! P.S. There is a dedicated parking lot behind the building, which is a great bonus as street parking can be hard to come by at times in this part of town. read more

Had my first Colombian food experience and it's safe to say I am a fan! Started with some empanadas that were delicious and then had the obligatory bandeja paisa which comes with rice, beans, egg, avocado, chorizo, grilled meat, chicharrón, a small arepa and plantain. What's not to like?! The portion is HUGE in case you've never had a bandeja paisa before so I def recommend sharing. We also had lengua a la Criolla, which is, yes, cow tongue, prepared with tomato sauce, potatoes, and yucca. I've had lengua tacos but have never been very fond of the taste... I decided to give it a second shot and didn't hate it lol - I'll leave it at that. It was all washed down with an Águila (Colombian beer) I was here in September and they had a great outdoor dining set up and were following COVID 19 safety protocols. This place has hands down the best empanadas in Long Beach! In my personal opinion you cannot get better period. Also do yourself a favor and indulge in a refajo! Parking, they have a small parking spot in side/back of the restaurant and theres a decent amount of street parking around. Seating time: no wait to be seated, pretty fast, a waiter got us menus right away. Food wait time: around 10-20 minutes depending on what you order. Drinks and appetizers were under 10 minutes. Food: absolutely delicious, nothing disappoints. All of their meats have so much flavor as does their seafood! Their aguas frescas are also really really good and taste freshly made! I work close by and live nearby but never really stopped there to have a meal. It was lunchtime, I was hungry and it was right there. So, I stopped by. That day was the day! I am so glad I did. I was warmly greeted to sit anywere I wanted, and the waiter brought me the menu. Many amazing photos of delicious colombian food. i thought i would go with the milanesa steak with side of beans and rice. I also got a colombiana soda. Food didnt take too long and while I was waiting, there was a television playing something. My food was plated nicely and served hot straight from the kitchen. they gave me a side of spicy kind of colombian style salsa, which was kind of like a spicy chimichurri made with onions and cilantro. I spread that all over my milanesa for that extra kick of flavor. There is plenty of seating on dark wooden chairs. The walls are decorated with colombian artwork. It was nice getaway. Stopped by on New Years Day to get some bomb ass Colombian food. My Colombian boyfriend said this place was really good and authentic!!! We ordered a lot.... I mean A LOT. 1. Empanadas 10/10 - they come in a set of 3 pieces and we ended up REORDERING 3 more pieces later on because it was toooo good. They come out piping out and crispy. Beef ones are the ones to order. 2. Jugo de Curuva 10/10 - According to my bf this is his favorite smoothie and tastes just like the ones back home. I think I saw him shed some tears from this drink so try it! 3. Bendeja Paisa 10/10 - Portion is huge! Lots of things going on for this plate but everything combined together makes it delicious. 4. Churrasco 8/10 - Comes with a side of rice and beans but I substituted the beans for a fried plantain instead. I think next time I will order the Charrasco with the marinara sauce. I saw another gentlemen order this and was eyeing his plate and jealous of it the entire time! Definitley coming back and ordering that next time. I feel Fat and Sassy!!! Bandeja Tipica is always my go to! Can't go there and not get yourself the chicharron!!! A generous slab of pork belly deep fried to crispy goodness!!! I've never been a fan of rice and beans until I had Columbian and Peruvian style! So flavorful and delicious! Admittedly, the steak and and pork chop was overcooked. The chicharron wasn't as crispy as I'd had pre pandemic. I think that has to do with quality and consistency that (according to recent reviews) seems lacking with the restaurant right now. The food did take about 15-20 mins to arrive, And I should take away a star for charging $3.00 for a 12oz bottle of Lipton ice tea!??? I assumed they had like a house ice tea, nope...
