We were still shopping around and decided to go with another contractor. However, this contractor, Jonathan, told my wife he already purchased materials for our project and tried to force us to pay for it. As we had no agreement, neither written nor oral, she just ignored him. A few days later, we got a surprise in the mail. It was a Preliminary Notice that threatens us to pay $2000 which we neither have knowledge of nor agreed to. Imagine getting something like that in your mail. It is the first step to a Mechanic's Lien. It is a method often abused to get homes foreclosed so they can get paid. Absolutely no work was done. Nothing was signed. We didn't agree to anything. To protect my family, we will lawyer-up in the coming days if an actual lien is placed. Since he has no case, we will prevail and make this guy pay our attorney fees and punitive damages. My wife has physical ailments and cannot take the stress this guy has already done.
