I contacted Amherst Painting Company last fall for a quote to paint my antique home in town. I…read morereceived a reasonable quote that included scraping; sanding; all preparation work, labor, etc etc etc. I signed a contract with a sister company of theirs - AMHERST PAINTING PARTNERS LLC (both companies registered at the same address to the same people!!). I paid them a $2300.00 deposit on March 24. On April 6 they washed my house (one kid showed up). On April 14 they sent me an email (I was out of the country and they knew that) stating that they discovered "more work" than originally anticipated and that they were going to have to charge me 80% MORE than the agreed upon quote. At that point they had only worked a total of one and a half days on the scraping of my house (only window trims; one eve, etc); PLUS destroying my 60 year old junipers along the house so they could "get their scaffolding in place". IN SHORT - they left the job; destroyed my bushes; left scraped lead paint chips all over my lawn such that no children or animals can be in the front or side yard; and REFUSE to refund my deposit. THEY TOTALLY BREACHED THEIR CONTRACT. Here is the glich - Amherst PAINTING COMPANY does the actual work; Amherst PAINTING PARTNERS does the contracts. So - don't like what Painting PARTNERS does, you can't sue them for your money because they are a low-balled capitalized LLC. You can't do anything to PAINTING COMPANY becasue they didn't sign your contract!! Sweet deal - cleverly designed to screw old people out of their money; defraud consumers; mislead the public; etc. Since this company is a specialist in Antique / Historic home painting and contracting; and Amherst is one of the oldest and strictest historic districts in the country, consumers need to be very weary of using them. They use deceptive practices to "get the job"; then once they have the job use clever tactics to screw you out of your money. I have approached the Small Claims Court but unless I know who I actually have to sue in order to file, I cannot do anything legally! Buyers beware in Amherst!

I live in New England area and outside painting contract was agreed per the written proposal as…read morefollows. PREPARATION 1a) Power Wash - Remove dirt and surface contaminants 2 ) Caulk - Caulk gaps and cracks in trim, caulk were previously caulked (if necessary). 3a ) Scrape - Scrape all loose and peeling paints 4a ) Sand - Lightly sanding to feather the edges on scraped areas, may require additional prep time 5a) Spot Prime - Spot Prime all areas where bare wood is showing. MY OBSERVATION DURING AND AFTER PAINT JOB COMPLETED. All of the above work was completed but not successfully per written proposal. 1a) No Power was done, only spay small bottle with cleaning chemical was attached to water hose and spayed but there was not enough pressure to reach all height and areas. Hose length was not long enough to reach entire outside house. 2) Caulk was done in most area but not effectively, I have to micromanage some details but was done. 3a ) Scrape was done but I do not have any issue with this process. 4a) Sand - Lightly sanding was done but I am not 100% satisfied (too late) as sanding was done just before painting process. 5a) Spot Prime-Primer was NOT done at all. No primer was used. (they claimed it was mixed with paint). On top there is supposed to be two layers/coat of paint to be applied after first layer is dried (or 30 minutes later). But two-stroke were applied, and they called "THIS IS OUR TWO LAYERS". Per the proposal, "exterior paint" to be applied to hold cold/hot weather and water. But paint was brought in indoor paint container and said we have transferred in small container to bring (but I cannot conform this is true). I was giving some credit in my invoice, but still I was NOT satisfied with the job overall. I will not recommend to my friends and family from my personal experience as mentioned above.
