Love, love, love Akashi! This Kingwood location has been my wife and I's go-to spot for Asian cuisine. We can choose between Chinese-, Japanese-style dishes and also fusion dishes. They have a large menu featuring many delicious appetizers, entrees, sushi/sashimi, Nigiri and desserts. They have a full bar inside, so they've got you covered for cocktails. The inside is always clean, and the service is fast and friendly. They have a good parking lot, too, so there's usually no fighting for parking spaces. Tonight and I got their Godzilla roll and it was a BEAST. We also got their Tangy Spicy Style Beef - super savory, plenty of crunchy texture from the vegetable and overall a very filling dish. Akashí is a family favorite. Come here often, so I know there is consistently very, very good. We stop in often on the way to and from soccer practice. Great, upscale ambiance, great food, and friendly service. Great for a high energy date night, as it can get loud when crowded. My favorite roll is the mango Waikiki. I ate it before I could get a picture, but definitely worth a try. I'll try to remember to take a picture before I eat it next time, but good luck with that. read more

We normally don't travel to this area around Kingwood but I had to meet some people for lunch. They requested Asian food so we Yelped it! (Thank you Yelpers!) The place was very nice and clean inside and we came around 1pm.. The place was packed for lunch when we got there but cleared pretty quickly as they had fast food service. Food was pretty good and they had good lunch specials that features both the Chinese and Japanese menu. Our group had a menagerie of both. Everyone seemed pleased with their meals. The only thing that was very annoying was our waiter. She was more mature and rushed through everything. We hadn't gotten seated very long and they brought menus... she was like are you ready? We told her it was our first time so we needed a bit of time. She returned a couple minutes later and asked again. I said we are still looking. A couple minutes later she came again ‍ We ordered some but wanted to still look. She brought the food and then we weren't even 1/2 way through and she kept asking if she could take our plates. Um, no... we're eating. She was quite intrusive our entire meal and we were trying to take our time and have a meeting. At this point lunch rush was over and there were only maybe 6-8 tables seated. They weren't rushing to seat people... plenty of space. I personally ordered 2x because she didn't give me time to even look at the menu initially. We all had finished and I was going to order more and the lady literally brought the check. I was like wow. I basically said forget it and didn't order more because I was so annoyed. So we sat there and talked to try and finish out meeting. She brought my check back which I needed to sign and came back 2-3x to grab and I was like I haven't signed it. I walked in the door and stood there for a while watching the workers sitting at a table and eating. They finally noticed me once I asked if I should seat myself. Once seated, the service was very attentive. However, the staff continued to sit at the table and eat, look up often at me to see if I need anything, they would immediately come over and help me then return to the table to continue eating. This is unsanitary. Customers should not see workers eating especially while still serving customers. They did not wash their hands or anything before coming over to serve me. So sad to see this restaurant decline, and I hope it's temporary. Tonight was a disaster with no sign of a manager. When I mentioned that we had been waiting 25 minutes for someone to take our order, he argued with me. Service could have been worse, but I'm not sure how. We waited forever for our soft drinks, which were only refilled once. Entrees we're okay, but based on the terrible service, it will be a while before we go back, and this has been one of our area favorites. read more

This place should be considered a hidden gem tucked away in the busy suburbs of Kingwood/Porter but here I am on a Tuesday evening, 6:30pm, my take out order wrong so I need to wait for it to be corrected. I asked the "hostess" if I can have a beer while I wait longer and her response was I can't help you with that. The food mediocre. Service awful. Nothing to recommend here. called and spoke to the manager, told him the order was rong. they would not correct it cuss i did not check it in front of them before i left the restaurant. they said it was my fault for not checking the order before i left!!! tolded them i have my reciept they said it doesn't matter! Very good service in the food was absolutely amazing. This place is tucked away in a strip mall but they make up for the outside with the charm on the inside. I think this place is average. When I come here, the place is usually packed. I think i see a lot of people order Chinese food than sushi, which I don't get. The place is nice for the location, there's not many sushi places in Kingwood. I guess the atmosphere and decorations make it nice? I'd rather go to Ginger or Little Ginger. Less busy with good service and good sushi. You can stand at the bar for awhile and not be acknowledged or wait for you drink and think that they forgot. read more

Really disappointed with the food. Fusion places are sometimes a hit or miss and this was a miss for me. The Chinese food tasted odd to me and really cheap. Normally if I don't finish something, I'll take it home. I don't like to waste food, but here I didn't bring it home. While eating, I could also smell bleach which is really off putting. So my experience her improved significantly. I however just did a simple take out order . The customer service on the phone was very polite and informative I wanted the uni nigiri however the young man let me know that the establishment was not offering that item for the evening and suggested I try the toro (tuna belly) or the blue fin tuna . I went for the toro . It was very nice not quite what I was looking for but I did appreciate the opportunity to try it here . The fish was fresh and delicious . I was told my order would be about 15 min or so when I arrived 30 minutes later it still had not been complete . I just waited a couple more minutes though maybe 5 or less and was on my way . Lately though i feel as if they took the trendy vibe out which is a bummer for me because I am a young married woman and we loved having a place like this in Kingwood. My first impression wasn't anything spectacular. The food, service, and drinks were mediocre at best. I have to strongly agree with another reviewer that they have a heavy hand with the sauces. I went to Akashi with my friend who lives in Kingwood and it was okay. It doesn't really compete with inner-loop sushi establishments, but it was good. I ordered the Mango Waikiki roll and the Crispy Las Vegas roll. The Waikiki was delicious. The salmon was fresh and the mango was flavorful. The Las Vegas was okay...the jalapeno was REALLY spicy!!! I hate spicy, but jalapeno in sushi is generally just for flavor and not heat so I didn't ask them to remove it. It's personal preference so I'm not saying anything was wrong with their food; it was just surprising. Service was sub-par and quite confusing. Our server greeted us with a huge smile and asked us questions/engaged in our lives and was super friendly. Food quality has gotten better over the years. I still find it odd when restaurants do Chinese & Japanese food Pick one and do it well. Between the two, I prefer their Japanese food. Our last visit, my son had the volcano roll. Great presentation as it came out on fire, so definitely impressive. Evidently delicious since he ate it all and wouldn't share. The only reason they get three stars is because it's clean, and the service is good. The food is not. From the ginger and wasabi, to the maki rolls; everything appeared to have been cut, pre-made, and left out to dry for several hours. Something off with the carbonation in the soft drinks as well. We are here for the first time tonight and I am glad we gave it a try! New to the area and my first choice was closed. Yay! The atmosphere is very nice, modern and clean. We were seated immediately and our server Ainsley was prompt, courteous and attentive without hovering. The food was fantastic! We started with steamed gyoza and the sauce served with these was a great compliment with additional seasons - not just plain soy sauce. My entree was Treasure Island with fried rice. Very tasty and the fried rice was flavorful, not doused in soy sauce. Only thing I didn't eat was the lobster which was too chewy. My husband ordered Coconut Curry Chicken and it had just the right amount of heat! Definitely worth the short drive from Humble and we will definitely return! read more
