Terrible service! Watch out for the older lady in glasses she will mumble when ordering and up charge anything she can! I've been her 4 times so I am not new to this place but we will not be back after today. The combos come with either fried rice or steamed rice , First of all she was taking the order far away. She asked if "apple juice " for my 1 year old I said no nothing for him and she just rolled her eyes. She asked me what I wanted to eat I asked for the hibachi steak didn't get no " steamed or friend rice " or how I wanted the steak when I said can I get my steak medium well she continued to catch an attitude. Not once did she come check on us we had to wave her down for everything and they took $30 for tip from my Tab that's he sure as hell did not deserve & $16 extra for "chicken fried rice" when we didn't ask for it. But best believe she was by the door talking and laughing with the lady that sits people down waiting to get another table. I don't know why the reviews aren't higher on here, because honestly, this is the best hibachi on the north side of Houston. They know what they're doing!! It's not a big time fancy place, so I consider it a hidden gem. I could care less about all the tricks and stunts, it's about how good the food taste, and they never disappoint. They make sure you are satisfied and assist with any accommodations needed. I like to order a little melted butter on the side to put over my steak. Food was delicious, we had a party of 13 and everything went smooth! We had the steak, salmon steak , chicken and shrimp with fried rice and white rice. It came with soup and ice cream! It was clean, friendly and the servers and chefs were fun and attentive. I'd go again just for the salmon and shrimp with fried rice. I was invited here by one of my friends for lunch since I was on that side of town. Its a Hibachi type place where they grill your food right in front of you. I had the mini steak which came with a salad or soup, grilled vegetables and fried rice. There was the usually theatrics in Hibachi style restaurants, fire, spatula ringing etc. I found that the food easy prepared to my satisfaction and in a decent amount of time if you are on lunch break. Made a 2pm reservation for 9 people, including 3 moms, 4 preschool aged children, & my husband. I explained that when I made the reservation. I was assure that we would be seated at our reservation time. Arrived to be told that people who had reservations at noon were still waiting to be seated & they are still taking reservations. The guy explained to me that they continue to take reservations even if they know that they are full because some people don't show up. We got seated, EVENTUALLY. Because of the packed restaurant, we kept the kids comfy in the SUV. After we were escorted to our table, we were asked about the other half of our party. I explained that I would get them from the parking lot. I was told that I had 5 minutes or others would be given their seats. Anyone who has ever met a 4 year old can imagine how fun it was to try to rush hungry & cranky triplets into the restaurant. The rest of the visit went mostly well, until I saw that they automatically charge an 18% gratuity & then leave a blank for a tip. Seriously. There is no option to remove it. We were in Houston for the weekend and my daughter wanted Hibachi for her birthday dinner. The lady who worked at our hotel recommended HB Japanese Steak House and said it was her favorite. Since we didn't know any better, we tried it. Needless to say, we were quite disappointed. The person taking our order seemed mad that we weren't ordering fried rice, the wine my sister ordered tasted old and when she asked him about it he got defensive. He did bring her a new glass and said he opened a new bottle. It did taste much better. The onion soup was excellent but the salad was watery and the dressing had no flavor. I ordered chicken teppanyaki which was dry. The person cooking our food hardly put on a show. All he did was make a volcano out of an onion. He hardly engaged with us. We live in a suburb of Austin, TX and really like Shogun. They put on an amazing show and that is what we were expecting at HB. We were 100% disappointed. Part of the teppanyaki experience is the show the chefs put on. I will say that the portion size of food was very good and I liked the vegetables they had. We did tell them it was my daughter's birthday so they came out with some ice cream with a candle and sang to her which was nice. Overall, I would not recommend this place if you are looking for the true teppanyaki experience. read more

We have been coming here for quite some time now and have never had a bad experience. We have always been welcomed in with such kindness from the hostess, the wait staff and chefs and even the staff that pick up after us all. The restaurant itself is always clean and we have never waited more than 15 minutes to be seated. Usually it's just my daughter and myself to join for lunch or dinner but we have also had a dinner party of 16 guests and it was perfect, no trouble accommodating us. Now to the food, it's always wonderful. The staff is always so kind to explain certain dishes and answer questions. The chefs are always kind and make sure that things are made to our liking and very much willing to remake something if needed. Although we have never had to have anything remade because it's always amazing, I have been present when other customers were not 100% satisfied and everything was taken care of. We love the tastes and freshness of food. Quality is superb. I absolutely recommend HB for a simple lunch with co-workers or amazing dinner with friends or family. read more

This is the only place we stop for food on 1960! The wait is short, if any, the staff are all very kind and fun, the food is sooooo good, and the atmosphere is unexpectedly relaxing. We always have such a great time here! Sake is good and while we always do hibachi, they also have a restaurant side if that's more your thing. My daughter (early teen now) and I are always looking for an excuse to eat here and have been for several years. Highly recommend! read more

Today I couldn't overlook the filthiness that is "Happy Buddha". For starters, my boyfriend and I sat down and were greeted with a dirty plate and a fork with rice stuck in between the prongs. My boyfriend asked for another fork twice, and he ended up using chopsticks. This was only the prelude to the FLY that flew onto the hibachi table and died a pretty terrible death. The fly was immediately scooped up and steamily served to a poor victim on the end of the table. I am really surprised by the low rating of this restaurant. It seems that it stems mostly from being rude. As far as the food goes, this is the place for Hibachi. I took my grandchildren here and I recommended it to my grown children as well. There's another Hibachi place close by but would not risk it. I didn't think you could mess up fried rice but I went to another establishment and the rice was awful. They missed an ingredient or two and that made the whole difference.
