Came here today after hearing all the hype... this place did not disappoint! We had the shrimp platters with grits. Absolutely worth the drive from Chiefland.

Best ribeye steak around. Wings are nice and crunchy. They are fried naked. Try the Hawaiian wings, a sticky Tiger sauce.

This is one…read moreof the first restaurants I ever ate at in the area, and I make it a point to visit here at least once every trip. Bill's is a family-owned barbecue restaurant located on the main road in "downtown" Chiefland. It has a private parking lot, and there are multiple entrances/exits both on the main road, and the road that runs behind the building. On this day, we visited for lunch on a Monday in June around noon. There is definitely a regular lunch crowd that eats at this place, so it was lively. However, we had no problem getting a table right away. I have personally never had to wait for a table when dining here. For seating, there are primarily booths with some regular tables. When I visit, I typically get whatever the Daily Special is. These seem to stay the same week-to-week, and since this was a Monday it was the Pork Sandwich with the Salad Bar for $11.25. However, they have a large menu with various lunch specials, salads, sandwiches, and other barbeque items to choose from. There are also family packs and take-out options available. I personally love the Salad Bar here. My favorite lettuce is iceberg, and that is the base they offer. They have most of the typical toppings you would expect to find on a Salad Bar, along with some pasta/broccoli/chicken salad-type offerings. There are several different dressings, along with crackers and chips to pair with your creations. For the Pork Sandwich, you get to choose between a bun or garlic toast. I always opt for the garlic toast, as it seems many other do also. It is not pulled pork, but rather thicker slices piled on the bread. The sandwich does not come with sauce, but on the table there are three different barbeques to choose from - regular, sweet, or hot. As typical, the sandwich was great and the meat was not dry at all. Our server was kind and took great care of us during our lunch. The staff seems to get to know their customers, as it appears they recognize most patrons when they are coming in. I enjoyed this particular visit to Bill's, as I typically do. Especially with the daily and lunch specials, I believe it is a good value for quality food. It has a small town atmosphere that is comforting, making you feel right at home. I would definitely recommend giving Bill's a try if you find yourself in the area, or are looking for a new spot to try.

The wait staff did the best they could to deal, but were a bit overwhelmed. My Rueben was quite good. It's apparently a specialty of theirs. My wife enjoyed her ham with her two sides. Great place to stop on the road, but it won't be ten minutes and you're gone. Once you order, it's really quite quick.

Entering it kind of reminds you of a farmhouse, I guess. Pretty standard furnishings and decoration for a country diner sort of place. Of course, we were there for breakfast, so the standard diner breakfast was on the menu. The full menu consists of burgers, sandwiches, and a couple of barbecue dishes. If there were more screens mounted on the walls I would call it a sportsbar, but that isn't the case. Our orders were taken, and I had gone for eggs, hashbrowns, and corned beef because it was St Patty's Day. Realistically one of the few times that I have legitimately had food that was appropriate for the holiday. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time for a group of ten, so the kitchen and staff knew what they were doing. The food was fine... nothing to really shout out about, but also not bad. It was what I expected it to be, and that was good enough.

1906 Farmhouse 25405 W Newberry Rd, Newberry, FL 32669…read more ***SWILL ALERT*** Pulling up to the hitchin' post at the 1906 Farmhouse, all seemed well and fine. I don't mind themed restaurants (they can be fun). This place was designed to model the Farmhouse where the ranch hands gathered for meals before and after a long day of riding. I dug it. It gave off a warm, welcoming, one-of-the-family vibe. Kasey was my server for the meal and she was frowning before I asked one question. I placed an order for one Country Fried Steak with sides of Collard Greens and Mac & Cheese, along with some Strawberry Shortcake to round out the meal. I soon saw Cantankerous Kasey begrudgingly returning with my victuals. I don't understand this attitude. Am I supposed to be grateful she deigned to work here? Anyway, if any of you are curious like me, you may have often wondered what it was like to spend a day in jail. To that end, I admit, I got myself hauled off to the County Hoosegow. Wanting to make the most out of my tax dollars, I booked my stay to include lunch. The dry bologna sandwich you receive, along with the juice bag to wash it down, is something you try to forget. As I looked at the slop my trustee, Kasey, placed before me, I began to long for the county jail government issue bologna. The Country Fried Steak was fresh from the freezer and cooked with the precision of Stevie Wonder passing his behind-the-wheel driving test. I've been hit with hockey pucks softer than this garbage. The gravy was made in the Sysco factory and this had to be their bottom-grade slush. It was as tasty as flour and water. Wait. The sides were a step down from the entree, if that is possible. Just look at the pictures and tell me, does anything look appetizing? While I am not one to ever judge a book by its cover, as looks can be deceiving. In this case, they are not, and the adage 'a picture speaks a thousand words' is spot on. The Collard Greens were obviously from an industrial can. Hey, don't get me wrong, all restaurants use a food service, but you don't have to be cheap about it and try to finagle the dining population by using the lowest quality they have to offer. The Mac & Cheese looked more like something a dog regurgitated than actual food. It was dry and pasty on the palate--just the way it is not supposed to be. The Strawberry Shortcake is also food service, not unlike the stuff you got in high school, only worse. Kudos, 1906 Farmhouse, you officially serve Swill sans the fly. At least on this visit. The Big Boy says, "I wouldn't serve this SWILL to a dead dog."

That's the size of a football field and I would run through the Tampa Bay lineman in order to get to this restaurant. Parking? Ample. Walking through the door it's like walking through your old aunt's house where your mom told you not to touch anything and she had plastic covering on the couches. You knew you were going to get slapped at some point, but the food was gonna be fire. And the sliced smoked turkey sandwich I had on garlic bread did exactly that. It slapped me right where I like to be slapped. It was like the first time I heard "In Da Club" by 50 Cent. I knew I'd be humming the sweet tune of this samwich for decades. Was the dining area open? Absolutely not. Did the beautiful young lady who waited on us at the cash register let us sit down and eat anyway because she knew we were weary travelers and we were tired? Abbso-effing-lutely. "You should try the wings" this angel told me. "You should say that softer and slower into my ear so the hairs on my arm stand up" I replied. And boy oh boy did these people honor that flightless bird by turning its wings into a culinary masterpiece. Coleslaw. Slapped. French fries. Slapped. Sliced beef sammich. Slapped doesn't fully encapsulate the taste. It was like that first slow dance with a girl in 8th grade where the chaperone told you to leave room for the Holy Spirit. The service was so exceptional and we were treated with so much love that I would be shocked if we don't exchange Christmas cards this holiday season. I will be back time and time again. It was had a medium rare. It was succulent. It was juicy. It was the best stuff you ever put in your mouth. The pork was the same way succulent and juicy. The chicken was flavorful and everything was just delicious. We can't brag enough. We went through and unfortunately they do not have a dining situation. You do have to drive through. We went to this little Park. The girl suggested we sat and ate and we went back and bought 2 lb of the pork and the beef to bring home with us. It's an old building. There's no sign out because of the hurricane, but you will never have a better finger licking lip smacking barbecue in your life. Sweet potatoes were good, beans were good, garlic bread was good. Everything was good but the meats were just phenomenal and as a chef I don't say that lightly cuz I am really funny about barbecue cuz everybody wants to make it too heavy on the smoke and with the bad stomach I just can't stand it.
