Stumbled upon this place while in the area and craving sushi with my friend. Sat right near the street and had one of there dinner sushi plates for 1. Totally delicious and worth the cost! You get a good amount of food for about 20 bucks (which includes soup/salad for only a buck more). If in the area, i suggest stopping by. You won't be disappointed. I am shocked everytime I place an order to pickup. They literally have all my food ready under 10 minutes! I honestly dont know how they do it. The sushi is fresh, and good for the price. Its a great place for a quick meal. I will continue ordering from here. The volcano roll is awesome, however if you like shrimp tempura rolls, don't get them from here. AKO is pretty convenient. I'm in the neighborhood and go there often when I'm craving sushi. The atmosphere and service is always good. They used to be BYOB, but now have an alcohol menu. The food is okay, and it's always okay...at least its consistent. I've never had anything that was terrible, but I've never had an omg-my-mind-is-blown there either. Williamsburg does have a great variety of food options but great sushi is not one of them. There are a lot of average sushi places but no where really to splurge on fantastic fish (yes there is 1 or 8 which is overpriced) But amongst the average sushi places (samurai, miyako, fushimi, wasabi, bozu, mizu) Ako definitely has the best and freshest fish. They don't pile on the sushi like other places and they definitely are a tas more pricey , but it's worth it. I pretty much only order from ako if I'm in the mood for local sushi. They have a sweet backyard so it's really nice in the Spring/Summer. I usually get the beef teriyaki bento box. So good. They give you a lot and cook the beef medium to well done. You can also replace the california roll with another roll for 2 extra dollars. Miso soup compliments the bento very nicely. Their service in the restaurant is slow, but in general, their customer service is amazing! Came here just for a snack. Ordered the Beef Negimaki and was extremely disappointed!! It was not at all what I expected having had this once somewhere else where it was a total win. Here the meat was very overcooked and the tops of the scallions were burned more than I would have liked. The ginger teriyaki sauce was okay, but was not able to fix the overcooked meat and burned scallion. I ate two of them and asked for the check. I was gonna get sushi, but did not try the sushi because of the appearance. Looking at the fish behind the glass it did not look extremely appetizing/fresh. It was all pre cut fish and the tuna and salmon in particular looked a little dry around the edges. In my experience the precut fish tends to not be as favorable and fresh tasting as when the cut the fish as you order it. Call me a yuppie, but when you have had good quality you can easily pick out the poor quality spots like this. read more
