Okay so me and my friends were craving sushi all day yesterday. We happened to be in the area and found Ako, I must say it was delicious.My friend ordered the miso soup, with the peanut avocado roll along with a sake. She stated it was delicious, and it was the best sushi she had in while. As for me I ordered the shrimp tempura roll (MY FAV ROLL), & a crunchy spicy salmon roll. Along with spicy mayo & ginger, it was hands down the best sushi I've had so far in my life. The only thing that disappointed me was their water, it tasted like pure chlorine. I also got a free green tea ice cream , just for checking in. So overall it was quality sushi, the pace is small but cute. So if you're in the area definitely give them a try ! read more

Do NOT eat here!!! I ate here on Sunday evening around 10pm. The kitchen closes at 11 so I didnt think I would watch the men that touch my raw fish scrubbing the floors and cleaning up as I was waiting for my order. I should have complained about it but I was hungry and honestly assumed they would do the right thing and either wear gloves and or wash their hands. I was with a friend who doesnt eat sushi so we were just chatting and while waiting for my small order. I first ordered the Miso soup which was the typical Miso soup nothing special.. Then I ordered the shrimp shumai and I could literally taste the dough as if it was raw so I only ate about 2 the rest I left on my plate. Then I ordered a special Golden Mango roll I believe that was the name of it, I honestly dont want to remember anything about this place after I caught FOOD POISONING!!! that same night around 1 am I could not sleep and began throwing up!!! My bones were aching I had a fever and I could not eat or drink ANYTHING for 2 days!!!! Im not sure what part of the meal gave me the virus but I do KNOW i will NEVER eat here again!! and I advise you my dear fellow yelpers not to eat here either!!! read more

Four small shrimp for $9.50 is outrageous. I could barely see the shrimp. The flavor of the sauce was like ketchup. I have ordered sushi and was generally satisfied with flavor and quality. i've been here on several occasions. i wouldn't say they have the best sushi in the world or in the area... but it's definitely the top 10 in Brooklyn for me. what i love about Ako is the service and cute touches they have with the specialty rolls! from flashing led lights to beautiful flower blossoms... it's so American of me to love all this stuff, but i don't care. =) patios becoming a big thing in Williamsburg lately. i love that they have one. even during the colder months in the fall/winter- they open it up whenever the weather is slightly warmer than usual. i've ordered every special roll they've offered. the biggest standouts are: Ako Wasabi (the tobiko is so yum) Tuna Salmon Twister Spicy Girl (they come with the LED lights!!!) 4 Seasons (all different types of tobiko~ love!!) overall presentation of sushi and cleanliness of all the food and prep- i like Ako a lot! =) read more

The food here is not bad and is what is expected for an average Japanese restaurant, however I am only giving two stars because of the bad service. I went here with my boyfriend and a few family members on a Saturday night and waited almost an hour for our plates. It was as if they had forgotten about us. However today is the last time i order from this place. I am afraid this has gone down hill. My salmon/jalepano roll was inedible due to the salmon being of such poor quality it was all chewy and skin and fat inside my roll. Disgusting. The lunch special price went up too. It's now $11 for any 2 rolls, and $14 for three rolls (used to be $9 for 2 and & $11 for 3). The ginger tasted off too. Like it had come out of a stinky sock drawer. I've never tasted bad ginger before, and usually love that side to cleanse my palette. But this was not edible either. Ako I bid you goodbye. read more

I'm a big Sushi fiend/connoisseur, so when my fav sushi spot Wasabi had "closed for renovations," I was very scared what would happen next. A couple months later, Ako arrived, and I could not be happier. Donning an upscale and modern renovation, Ako still has the fantastic quality and edge that brought me to Wasabi in the first place. Down to the finite details such as the dishes, Ako is a seriously delicious crowd pleaser with a modern edge. Highly recommend the crunchy spicy tuna and volcano roll! The food is pretty average. Another Japanese restaurant run by Chinese people, so it isn't that authentic. My friend ordered a chicken yakiudon, he got a vegetable one instead. They changed it though, so that's nice of them. I got a yellow tail tartar it's tragically small. Sushi should be served cold but my rainbow roll is warm. Pretty nice ambience though, could pass for people who aren't picky. read more

We had an amazing time here! The service was lovely. I had a few questions about the menu and the man explained everything with pleasure. The food was great. Very fresh sushi, nice presentation and so tasty!! A real gem if you're looking for a good sushi which is affordable. Apart from that the location is lovely. hands down best sushi. hands down. that i've ever had, and i've had a lot of sushi. i've never been to japan, and i'm not from california, but my boyfriend is obsessed with japanese food. so we eat it a lot. it was delicious. i was also impressed with their rock shrimp, their AMAZING waitstaff service (they are incredibly attentive and nice). the put little slices of cucumber in our glasses for our sake. i've never seen that done before, but it really was delicious. and i actually found the LED ice cubes to be a creative touch. not a serious touch, for sure, as someone mentioned below, but it was cool. maybe i'm still a raver at heart. their plating was really artful. loved it. oh. and the fish was fresh. and clean clean clean. read more

Mostly all a sushi restaurant needs from me to get at least 4 stars is phenomenal fish quality; Ako gets it mostly for that. I had a hot seabass kebab app, and then several pieces of a-la-carte sashimi (if you're curious, specifically hamachi, kampachi, o-toro, and ika). Everything was exactly as it should be. I'm a bit of a traditionalist, so the presentation was a bit... uh, not to my aesthetic? Also, oddly annoying, but apart from bottom-barrel house sake, they don't serve sake by the glass! Super disappointing, although granted -- a nitpick. The service would've been acceptable if the place was super busy (which, it wasn't), but the prices are definitely a draw, so if I have a sushi craving, I'll probably swing by again. Also, the back yard seems cute as hell with nice low-key romantic lighting; would love to go back again in warmer weather. read more
