Amazing pasta for our trip from US to Paris! We didn't know that we were supposed to make reservations but the staff was kind enough to squeeze us in! I have NEVER had such divine pasta. We only have 2 nights left and we are going again for lunch today because I need to have it again. I ordered the Ravioli Fellini and my hubby had the Rigatoni Arabiatta. We both were very pleased and are craving it again already will upload pictures on our 2nsince we were so hungry yesterday we did not get a chance. So glad we came across Al Caratello when we found out the original restaurant we had planned on going to was unexpectedly closed! It's a quaint Italian joint in Montmartre with amazing food at a great value. It was so good that we actually came here two nights in a row! The first night we just went for a big charcuterie board and bruschetta. It definitely hit the spot. Also got a half liter of their house red wine for only 10 euro! Such a great deal compared to most other restaurants in Paris. The second night we went for two of their pastas. My wife got the Linguine alla Siciliana with eggplant, zucchini, and a tomato sauce. The sauce was delicious and had a bright pop of flavor. I got the Rigatoni with mushrooms, truffle cream sauce, and smoked ham on top. A bit heavy but SO GOOD. Loved it. This might be my favorite Italian restaurant on the planet. And I LOVE Italian food. We had stopped in here about a year again on a whim since we were staying in the Montmartre area and I was convinced it was the best pasta dish if not the best meal I'd ever had, and I've been raving ever since. We returned to Paris a couple weeks ago and made a special trip over to the restaurant to see if it still held true. We came unannounced and they were able to accommodate us in separate sister-seating, restaurant extension across the street. It was very cozy and ambient inside, and nice that they could get us a table right away without a reservation. I ordered the exact same dish because I couldn't help myself, with an added few dollops of fois gras for good measure. My boyfriend ordered the same to see what the hype was about, and we were not disappointed. Amazing yet again. We've visited around Italy together, and I by myself a few times but I will never stop claiming this restaurant as the best Italian pasta available. read more

Got the house antipasto- medium and bruschetta (medium) to start. Meat was spot on, sliced paper thin... loved the spray balsamic !! I had ravioli with spinach and Gorgonzola is truffle cream sauce - so worth going off the "healthy diet" thing. With a full house the owner graciously secured us a table, asap. My husband and I are foodies, so let me say- this place has amazing Italian food that even my very picky 7 yo gobbled up. Just amazing. The restaurant itself is super charming and exactly what you would imagine in a French restaurant. The owner and his wife went over and beyond to make sure we were fed, hydrated and had plenty of wine (bc who doesn't when traveling with kids). Why come all the way to Paris and have Italian food? (You ask.) Because it is one of the most amazing meals anywhere in the world. Il Caratello is small (seats around 40 tightly) and the tables are very close together. (But it gives you the opportunity to get to know your neighbors and have some amazing food.) In our time in Paris we ate here twice. Not only because it was close to our hotel but because the food was excellent and the service was very friendly. We started with the burrata salad appetizer for 14€. The size of the burrata was as big as my fist on a bed of mixed greens and arugula. They served the oil and vinegar on the side. (Great idea having the vinegar in a small spray bottle!) Then on one of the nights I had their quattro formaggi rigatoni. Cheesy goodness that made me want to lick the bowl. One the 2nd go around I had the spicy bolognese sauce that was loaded with garlic and also very tasty. On both nights we ordered wine with dinner and a coffee after the meal. The bill both times was about 80-85€ which at our exchange rate is roughly $100. For an excellent meal with wine, app, dessert, coffee that is a steal! This place fills up and I recommend making a reservation or getting here early. read more

The flavor of the truffles was divine and the perfectly balanced creme / gorgonzola cheese sauce entwined with the truffles took me to a special place! While I'm not the first to order foie gras (goose liver), in this case it was the perfect protein and I'll be craving this dish for years to come comparing all others to this perfect night of carnivorous indulgence. This was probably the best meal I had in Paris--and it's not even French! Seriously I still dream of the pasta and fresh mozzarella. The seafood here is unbelievable. It was one of the first times I had scallops that tasted fresh off the boat, doused in a cream sauce so rich I had an otherworldly experience. The arugula salad is also something not to be missed. Service is great, very French, but really good. My server was one of the nicest guys and brought me an unlimited supply of bread throughout the evening. We're from NJ and we know our Italian. Excellent restaurant - found it because it was 3 minute walk from Moulin Rouge and Sullivan's. Wonderful food. We shared small bruschetta, caprese salad and side parmigiana slices as apps. We had the meat lasagna and linguini aglio olio for mains. I had red house wine. Even the hot pepper flakes were fresh and super spicy. The owner Silan (sp?) waited on us and was sooo attentive and hospitable. Hard to say a bad word about this spot. Starting with the service it was spot on and English was spoken which was a huge bonus.
