A problem with the main water line service to my house was beginning to cause it to fail. Al Coronado sent Marty out first thing Tues. morning to diagnose the problem. He thoroughly inspected the entire service, found the issues and showed me/explained the problems and solution. That afternoon Bruce, the installaton plumberr, arrived with the parts and tools to make the repairs. Both Marty and Bruce were professional, efficient, business-like and helpful. So these guys came here twice. Overcharged on one job and gave a ridiculous quote on another job that was $600 over what I paid.

Services requested were to install a pre sediment filter a water softener and a water pressure booster pump. Matt was the technicians name he looked at the work site to see what it all entailed gave me the quote I agreed and signed to have it scheduled for next available. Then the price increase comes into play. The tech to do the work shows up gets started then, Matt calls me out of the blue and asks what's with the extra boxes . I needed a faucet repaired that they installed a few years earlier. The insert that mixed hot and cold stopped up. They charged $432 with no breakdown on a bill on parts and labor even though I asked for it. After 3 years it broke down in the same way. They use an off brand of faucet, not a major name like Kohler, American Standard, etc. read more

Presented the costs upfront detailed. Once approved went to work. That's a hero in my opinion. They are now the only plumbing company we will use. And the only one I'd recommend. read more

water heater - Put a call in after gas company found a leak in the controller valve. I investigated warranty as water heater unit is 5 years old. The unit is still under warranty for parts. Excellent service. Got a leak in one of my kitchen pipes and called Al Coronado for help. They had a tech (Andy) arrive within 2 hours, determined what needed to be done and helped me get a restoration company since the walls were soaked thru. Andy was friendly and easy to work with. We had Al Coronado Plumbing come out on a Saturday to replace a water shut off valve that was broken behind our refrigerator. It cost us $900 which seemed very high, but we understood it was a Saturday service. However, the replacement was not done correctly and leaked water in our walls for 2 weeks before we realized what was happening. This ruined our walls and newly installed baseboards. The company did eventually pay to have the damage fixed but it was at our inconvenience and with an unprofessional renovation company. We asked to have our $900 returned and were told no. We will never use Al Coronado Plumbing again. Choose your plumbers carefully. read more

This was (and I emphasize was) the best company in town. We used them for years and referred them to others. Never again. They sent IMO a plumber who IMO tried to rip us off for a 7000 job to replace all our toilets -- based on how they sounded when they flush! Even the owner of the company admitted the sound of the flush is not the test. And when I asked for a refund of the deposit the accounting person was insulting or condescending at best. I needed a plumber since my toilet would not stop running and made a loud vibrating sound. Tried every home remedy but afraid because of the vibration . I called Al Coronado because of the reviews and they are absolutely right. Xavier came out within 48 hrs and he was great. Followed all pcps,was very patient and informative. Our toilet was old and not flushing properly. We had Al Coronado Plumbing come to our home and gave us a price to install a new toilet for $1,139 Told us our flange needed replaced. Price $735.00. The plumber left. Came back to install the overpriced toilet. They found roots growing into the toilet. Came back with a camera and told us it would cost $1, 618 to hydro jet from the toilet to the clean out that goes to the city sewer. Then told us it would cost $6,948 to fix the sewer pipe due to root damage. Very expensive so we had another plumbing co come in and they charged us $688.00 to hydro jet from the toilet to the clean out. Then this new company put a camera through and showed my husband that the sewer pipe needed absolutely NO repairs. My husband said the pipe looked clean and in good condition. So we decided to pay the new and honest company $1,386 to perform a hydro jet through the entire home's sewer line. Which was $232.00 cheaper than Al Coronados hydro jet price to do only the front of the house from toilet to clean out. This plumber's name was Jasper who told us our sewer line from our guest bathroom toilet would need repaired. He went on to tell us he would have to bust through 5 tiles and through the base of our flooring. He said, ( which we do know this part) that plumbers do not fix the tile afterwards) My point is - breaking up our bathroom floor didn't even need to be done. I even called him before we got a second opinion and asked him if he could do the hydro jet wash out in the line first. His exact words were "No, the sewer line has to get repaired, that there was no way around that part. So the $6,948 HAD to be paid. So long story short we did not use Al Coronado... but boy did Jasper keep calling about the work getting done. He acts like a real nice guy but he's a scam artist. A guy named George charged us the $1,139.00 for the toilet. Which we were ignorant in falling for. Look up average prices. This is way over priced even for plumbers. And George with his $735.00 quote for a toilet flange. Wow!! Just wow!! Please think twice about using this company. Andrew Coronado called me after I called Al Coronado to pay the $202.00 which was a balance we owed on the toilet at the time and let them know I was never using them again. He said, "Don't give up on me" He kept trying to convince me further that our pipe was broken. I had to hang up on him. He called me two more times after that leaving voicemails. So... either they don't know what they are doing (43 years in business) or they are scam artists. You take your pick! I'm honestly not exaggerating numbers or my words in this review. If you want to do the math for yourself and see exactly how much money they were trying to take us for you can. I've spoken to a few contractors about this situation and they assured me that we payed at least $800 too much for a plumber to put in a toilet. That a flange is nowhere near $735.00 for a professional install. And for almost $7,000 to fix a sewer pipe in one area of the house, that for that price they better be re piping your whole house. Not to mention, like I said the difference on the hydro jet clean out. We've learned our lesson that's for sure. Ya don't always gotta use the big guy who is open 24 hours. Look into the other guys too. Be careful! Inflation is so bad right now, don't let anything like this add to it. (Roots came in from Toilet not being sealed properly when we had tile work done. Roots can come in from outside of seal and flange. So consider that, that pipes do not necessarily have to be damaged from root growth) read more

Marty came out to review the need for a section of cast iron piping which I went over with him. He came back with a proposal which I accepted only to get a call latter in the day from him saying he had made a mistake and they could not do the work and told me to find another plumber. Not a professional service on their part after spending several days with him to figure out the work to be done. I called Al Coronado Plumbing after a friend's recommendation. A representative came to my house, looked around and told me my pipes were old cast iron, needed complete replacement, and gave me three contract options ranging from $18,000 to $22,000. He did nothing to check on my water line or my pipes. He just pressured me to sign one of the three very expensive contracts. I was in shock, did not want to buy into financing with them, and said I would think about it. Thank goodness! My pipes are copper, leak fixed with solder and replacement piece, about $400. I would never use or recommend Al Coronado. They should be investigated for shady practice. Don't buy into their pressure tactics and don't believe anything they tell you without getting a second opinion. read more

I am a native Tucsonan, and always like to deal locally. I had an urgent, but not life-threatening plumbing issue today and called Al Coronado. After a but of phone tag, I reached a pleasant woman named Michelle, explained my situation, and asked if someone could be sent out in the next few days. She then asked if I was a "regular customer". Frankly I couldn't remember if I had had them out before, since I have lived in this house for over 40 years. She then politely told me that she would be happy to send me a coupon and put me on a 'reference list' but they were TAKING NO NEW CUSTOMERS. Then why do they run advertisements daily on local TV? I wasted a whole morning in dealing with a plumbing issue when I could have contacted another firm. If they are dishonest about their advertising what else are they dishonest about? I had helped set up an appointment for a client to have some basic work done. The toilet that wasn't leaking just needed to be RE-caulked per the buyers request. Afterwards, it was leaking and then she had to struggle to get them to come back out. Then, they actually tried charging her again. The plumber who did the work was very nice, but other than that it was a bad experience and I felt responsible for recommending them and having my client go through all the frustration. They did eventually agree that she shouldn't be charged, but I overheard the conversation and the customer service representative was very rude. It was highly unprofessional. I only think they backed down because the homeowner mentioned that she was an attorney. It was an extremely unpleasant experience. read more

I posted earlier about this company and just got a phone call from Andrew Coronado, one of the owners. We had a nice chat, and he explained his pricing and the cost of running a large company. Andrew did agree that their costs were high but also noted the extra work such as the shut-off valve and new water line. The plumber that came out was nice and professional. I believe he did a very good job, matched the grout very well and really cleaned up after he was done. So, I think this is a good company but a little too costly for me. Kitchen sink plugged up on Saturday night and couldn't unplug it myself after fooling with a handmade wire-rooter+power drill, so I called a bunch of plumbers Sunday morning and Al Coronado was the only one that picked up. They had a guy over by 9am. Price to power-rooter 60' of kitchen was ~$250'ish. I have no idea if the price range for plumbing, so can't comment much, it seems expensive but then Bobby S. was prompt, polite, and professional and THERE. No one else responded and it was a weekend, so I'm OK with paying a premium for responsive service when the dishes are piling up and I tired of being elbow deep in drain-gunk. He did an excellent job, provided good advice, and was incredibly responsive, which in my mind, is exactly what I want when a sink/toilet/etc is overflowing. read more

Well, I find this interesting that THREE YEARS after the fact, there is a response to my review. All I have to say is, at the time that this was happening, there was no attempt by anyone from the company to reach out and make things right. Though I do appreciate the tone of his response, I really do not know what he is talking about in his reference to "procedures and protocols." Unless he is referring to his plumber calling the main office to figure out how to do the job and how to do the job in the most expensive way possible that is totally out of the realm of reasonable and honest cost. He also says, at least I think he was saying in his response, that he refunded above the service fee, which in this case would have been $100. He did not. He only refunded the $65. Just read the other one star reviews and you will get an idea of what to expect from this company. read more

I'll never call these people again. Friday night and there's water in my yard so I do some exploratory digging. Turns out the water main is leaking so I call these guys. Tech shows up about 30 minutes later and he's friendly and knowledgeable. He tells me that logically we need to diagnose the problem before we can figure out the solution and that makes sense. So he starts digging. The existing pipe is in a sleeve so it's hard to determine where the leak is so he digs a bit more. He can't find the end of the sleeve so he comes up with an estimate. Blue stake, have a crew dig 20' to the house, replace the line with copper, replace ALL of the valves (which are only 7 years old) including the irrigation box, fill trench, and replace yard rock. $4200. So I get up early in the morning and finish digging another 4 feet and find the end of the sleeve. Now at this point all that needs to be done is replace a 6' section of 1" PVC. The trench is open and I said I'd fill it myself. I'm a handy person. I mig weld and do electrical and other plumbing things. You know, head CTO at my house. I'd just like a professional to do the solvent weld on my main water line since it's mission critical. All he has to do is cut a section of pipe and glue both ends in the trench. Parts could not have been more than $10. Simple right? They wanted $1100. Yeah no. Not paying that. Deans plumbing did it for $125 and it took 20 mins. As he was leaving my neighbor walked over and needed Dean to quote a job so good for him. Did a look up of their google reviews and not surprisingly all the 5 star reviews are by reviewers with only ONE review. The deceptive power of the internet should never replace being knowledgeable and common sense. I'm sure the reply to this will be full of platitudes and chest thumping about their 4.1 star "web presence", but I don't buy any of it including their pricing. read more

We had a water leak in a pipe near the back house. I exposed the pipe. They came out the day I called. The gentleman was professional and did a good job. The problem? About $200/hr. The explanation was that they do not charge by the hour, they charge by the job. Yes, I agreed to the amount, but the company I usually use (it would take them two days to take care of this one) gives me a price and if it takes less than their hourly rate, that is what they charge. If it goes over, I pay more. Yes, in an emergency and when I have money to burn, I may call, but this is ridiculous. read more

Julian came out and did a thorough job of replumbing under my kitchen sink, replacing the broken dishwasher hose connection and removing old occluded drain pipes. They did not find the leak inside the house and said there wasn't one. Thisis where the good part of the review ends. Charged me 250 dollars for just putting the pressure Guage on the water faucet for a total work of 10 minutes maximum. He said not to use their services to fix the major irrigation leak as they charge plummer rate. Bottom line is if you are half intelligent, Google how to look for house leak, buy a pressure Guage and then find someone decent to fix it. We ran out of hot water and called them to come out. It was an $89 charge unless we went with them for services--ok, we figured we'd need them to do the job anyway. Their SALESMAN came out (not even an actual plumber) and never even opened the panel or inspected it other than just standing in front and looking at it. After 15 mins he said he needed a new hot water heater. We explained that we have a newborn baby and we're dreading needing a new heater, and that we can only do the cheapest option. He wrote our estimate as $1,800 being the CHEAPEST option. Regretfully we put half down as they required, and ordered the new heater. The next morning, my father came to look at it and SIMPLY CHANGED THE THERMOSTAT. He is handy but not a plumber, and the thermostat cost $20. We've had hot water back ever since with no issues. THEIR SALESMAN said it needed to be completely replaced for $1,800 without even looking into why we ran out of hot water. Let that sink in. DO NOT USE AL CORONADO PLUMBING. Last year when Al Coronado installed our water heater, we took out a maintenance agreement. This year when they came out, I expected a quick look over. I was pleasantly surprised at the time that was spent to check each and every place in my home that had plumbing, even the outside hoses. I also expected the plumber to find something so they could charge me for something. Not so! He found nothing wrong so the visit was free according to the agreement. They had previously replaced all the fixtures in my home, and I was totally satisfied. Even allowed us to pick out the fixtures at the store that we wanted and they installed them. read more
