I sent their General Manager, Jim, the estimate I'd received from the other guys and a separate second opinion along with my concerns. Instead of speculating, Jim sent James out to evaluate our system personally. James spent two hours inspecting everything and discovered the previous company had recommended a massive amount of unnecessary equipment and failed to mention that the actual issues were caused by their own poor installation. Had an appointment scheduled with their plumbing services to replace a leaking sink, faucet and garbage disposal. Tech was friendly and informative. I took off work to be present during the appointment to replace the sink. I get a call from Cool Willy's during my appointment window saying that other last-minute services came up and they would have to reschedule my work for a week later. If I have a predetermined appointment, maybe that should take precedence over other people's last minute calls. Bad way to do buisness in my opinion. Been a long-time customer and signed up for the maintenance program. Had two A/C systems installed and twice-yearly inspections. We needed a company to come out and assess repair costs/recommendations on a water line leak from our meter to our house and after calling around (leaning towards local companies) we landed with Cool Willy's. Firstly, they did not gauge us on the price of a straight forward visit that required nothing more than a need for a repair estimate/recommendation/options for an issue we had already determined with the water company. In fact, we were not charged for the visit (quoted as $49) by signing up for a customer program they have for first responders/military/teachers. The two young men who came out, John and Julian, were very professional and knowledgeable and took their time discussing options. I was quickly emailed an estimate on what it would cost for the company to do a full replacement, along with some other helpful information. It is absolutely clear how this business has remained locally successful for decades and has such great reviews. During the phone call where we spoke to a woman to set up the appointment which was same day, they put me on hold and I have to say it was the most entertaining and funny phone hold music I have ever heard! Regardless of whether we end up having them do the work for this particular job, they will now be my go-to plumbing company should we ever need any future work that my husband (a hardcore DIY guy) can't handle based on this initial experience. read more

The "scheduler" offered me a "free inspection" service for $49, based on being a veteran. When I said I didn't need an inspection, just a repair, suddenly the "inspection" cost $89 and was only available tomorrow. And what about the offer to fix it by 1 PM today? We had our heat pump system replaced by Cool Willy's, spending about 13 grand about a year and a half ago. About a year in, we noticed a ton of dust coming through the system and so requested to have someone look at the install. A tech was sent out who looked at the install briefly, did not bother to look under the house, and said that a crudely busted out opening in the concrete below the new unit was an appropriate install. He said they could modify the install, uninstalling the unit and draining the freon, but never sent a quote to us for that. Months later, I still have never received a call back or a quote from them, so I followed up to ask for help so we could use our system again this Summer. Despite contacting them 3 times, I have never received a response. I finally called Rite Way HVAC to get a second opinion. That company actually went under the house to look at the venting and confirm there were no cracks in the system, and they pointed out that the refrigerant lines were re- installed onto the new system without strapping the lines to the top of the crawl space, and without sealing gaps in the wall around them when they reattached them, to ensure dust would not come into the home from under the house. The Rite Way HVAC tech showed us what we needed to know to seal up the gaps and stop the dust. We really appreciated this other vendor's thoroughness and help when we couldn't; get a call back or response from Cool Willy's, who we have a warranty with. It seems like Cool Willy's is quick to take on a job with a high dollar value, but then not interested in taking care of customers or resolving issues once the job is hastily completed and paid for. Even when under warranty, I couldn't get a response back from them. Due to this experience, I would not use Cool Willy's again and would recommend calling another vendor like Rite Way that actually gets back to you when you have a health threatening issue in your home. read more

Cool Willys and technician James are heroes in our book. A/C went out at 4 PM on Thursday, July 2. James came out and took a look at everything and determined that we needed a new fan which was under warranty with Lennox. The supplier said that they couldn't get it to Cool Willy's until the Tuesday after the Saturday 4 July holiday. Cool Willy's sent a driver up to Phoenix, two hours each way, on Friday to get it. James came and installed it about 4 o'clock on Friday the day before Fourth of July. Not only would we have been miserable over the Fourth of July weekend, but the forecast temperature for Monday was 109°! James also looked at other stuff around the house and found that one of the air intake vents was blocked, causing moisture and rust in the unit. We have had a Russet as our service for years and they never said anything about it. He also noticed that the vents in some of the rooms were closed, again nothing was ever said before and we hadn't noticed it. The bil for all of this was very reasonable. Finally did a change over from my 25 year old system with Evap and electric heater to a heat pump. I was getting three bids, found two highly recommended ones and then at the last minute my brother told me about his excellent experience with Cool Willy's. So I did my bid request through Yelp! to get the additional protection offered when you use Yelp! They responded in less than a day and I had an appt within the week. The other bids took longer and were higher, and they said it would take anywhere from 14 to 30 days to install the heat pump. When the salesperson Kelly arrived she went over the options. I explained I was trying to maximize energy savings and any TEP or Federal Rebates, while trying to keep costs as low as possible. She explained all the options and offered that they were a provider of INSTANT TEP rebates on equipment. She added that they had a last minute opening in two days and offered a discount before I could ask for military or other discounts. The bid price was a little lower than my lowest bid, but had the ADVANTAGE of equipment covered with Federal and TEP discounts. They also gave two year maintenance club plan with sale. Amazing, had the installation of the Heat Pump and removal of the heater and evap done two days later. They did have to coordinate to install a new intake grill and a TEP test to get discounts approved which took another a week and still pending on the TEP test. But otherwise, I am very happy and impressed with the service. Each staff I dealt with was very friendly and helpful. I did notice sometimes the coordination between staff was not the best, but did not affect anything for us other than explaining what one told you to another staff. They also answered questions and were available after the sale to answer questions about filters to buy and installing a different thermostat and possible future upgrades. They did not just do the work and leave us hanging. The annual plan has them coming out twice per year for checkup on the heat pump which they will call to schedule and one additional pumping checkup that you can schedule on your own for whole house pumping inspection, including a water heater drain and fill. The only improvements I would suggest is that they provide a handout or information online about the annual plan and for new users of equipment. I really did not know to keep filters under MERV 8 to protect and how to do settings. They left the manufacturer's instructions and the installer did a good job of giving some verbal information, but I would like some general information in a handout or on their website to understand how to use the equipment. Also, they should coordinate concerns to all staff involved so they are all on the same page. Lastly, I know some people can be picky (i'm not) they did leave a few boxes and tossed the old cooler from the roof which seemed concerning. Everything was great and fine, and I highly recommend getting a bid and going with their service! Lastly, I told them my brother referred him, so he received an additional year on their annual club plan. Oh, they have discounts for existing customers, military, seniors, cash, first responders. My experiences happened about 2 years ago on 8/31/23. I daily regret the AC-related decisions that I made with this company, so I need to vent: A very young and inexperienced worker came to my condo after I called Cool Willy's to complain of water leaking from my ceiling-AC. He took his best GUESS as to what was causing the leak, saying that it was a slow-working fan. He said I could replace the fan for $1,500, but it would be tricky (and maybe impossible) to replace it due to the AC being in a cramped ceiling unit. He said that I would be better off just spending $8,000 on a new system. I'm a gullible people-pleaser, so I said yes to the full replacement. Only months later my new Rheem unit cracked in several places, and all of the freon leaked out. Their top serviceman (Walter/Wally) had to solder the unit as best he could. Since then, I worry daily that it will crack again or something else will come up. The worst thing is that I realized later, when it was too late, that the inexperienced worker didn't know at the time that I SIMPLY HAD A MISALIGNED CONDENSATION PAN. If he had known this, and had just slid the pan back to where it needed to be, this would have stopped my leak, and I wouldn't have unnecessarily spent $8K on a totally inferior, crack-prone unit. Also, on that same day, one of their young and inexperienced plumbers flooded my condo. The plumbing manager later came and saved the day by helping to install my faucets. He did a great job, but I have no faith in their day-to-day technicians. read more
