The menu as it appeared on Oct 9, 2013.

My husband and I decided to dine at Al Fontego Dei Pescatori after reading that another Yelper who stayed at our hotel (Boscolo Autograph Collection Marriott) ventured to this location. We opted to take a gondola ride before dinner at the Sophia Gondola station (very close to the restaurant). We were VERY impressed by the food and the service. Our only regret was that we had a large lunch and we were not that hungry for dinner. However, this was our last night in Venice and we were determined to eat. We split the spaghetti with cuttlefish ink sauce (13 euros), the salt crusted Branzino (65 euros, price based on weight of fish), and the chocolate souffle (7 euros)...oh yeah, and a bottle of wine (18 euros...the least expensive bottle was 15 euros, I think). The menu had a varied price point (from about 12 euros to 65 euros for each item) which seemed consistent for the area - no hidden fees, which was nice. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious. The lobster dish looked really good as well, but again, we simply could not eat any more. It was my husband's first time eating anything with ink sauce. He said that when he closed his eyes the creamy rich texture of the sauce would make him think he was maybe eating a cream based pasta dish. Just as important to note was how great the service was. Although the english of the staff was minimal, everyone did their best to make us feel welcomed. We ate on a Wednesday night and by around 8PM this place was about 1/2 full. I would guess that during the weekend a reservation would be really helpful. Our waiter was a pro! We had one order of the spaghetti but he brought the dish to our table for presentation and than separated the dish onto two plates. For the Branzino, again, table side he de-boned the entire fish and plated. Even with the salt burning his eyes he stayed focused and tried to chat us up the best he could. If we were in town longer, we would definitely return. Great place, a little hard to find, but totally worth it!

Don't bother going here. Service is so bad, it will ruin just okay food. Too many others to choose from.

The waiter is very friendly and invite us to have lunch, and menu price look reasonable so let's go for it. We ordered clam and mussels. So amazing and yummy, especially the soup! I really want to finish all of it. The scallop spaghetti is also very yummy. I love this place. Good vibe, friendly service, and most important is the food quality. 5 stars for sure. If you like to find restaurant in Venice with lots of local people visit, here is the best one!

For dinner in peak season, try to make a reservation as the restaurant is very small. We arrived before our reservation time and were seated immediately inside and greeted warmly by the restaurant owner. We ordered a bottle of wine to start (most under 20 Euros for a 75 ML bottle). For appetizers we ordered the cheese with honey for 13 Euros, absolutely amazing! We also combined this with the local olive oil and fresh bread brought to the table to start as well. For our second course we chose two pastas, the Penne Alla Amatriciana (I think it was around 12 Euros), and the Spaghetti Alla Carbonara (I think it was around 12 Euros as well). Both had extremely fresh homemade ingredients and were out of this world and extreme attention to care in the preparation. For our entree we split the breaded pork chop (I think it was around 20 Euros), including a side of potatoes (similar to the steak fries that you would see in the U.S.) The service was absolutely amazing and we loved dining alongside the owner and his family and meeting the cat that also lives at the restaurant and comes by to greet you during the meal as well. It truly was like you were dining at the home of the owner and is a must try if you are in Venice!

Both were served with a a mound of fresh cut potatoes, grilled vegetables and two sauces to dip into. We barely used the dips as everything was seasoned to perfection. No steak sauce needed as the steak was well seasoned and served hot. We also have a bottle of white wine and tried the lasagna for our starter. Everyone at the table was happy with this option for dinner. Also this is not fancy dinner but still dining at its fines. If you are a steak lover and in the Venice area Al Timon is a must have for dinner.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Definitely get the Lombatello steak if you are feeling carnivorous…read more Throngs of lively people sipping wine and snacking on cichetti late into the evening along the canal. The cichetti selection looked very good (variety thinned out throughout the night), but our party of 3 was starving and we opted to sit inside for a late ~8:30pm dinner. We got one order of grilled lamb and the Lombatello steak for 2. The lamb was also good, no gamey taste. The Lombatello steak was simply fantastic, choose this cut specifically!! A heaping pile of medium-rare meat (cannot buy single portions) that was very tender and flavorful. It's cushioned with steak fries and grilled veggies on the side. Paired with two glasses of house wine, this meal was fantastic. Ended up with a to go box of steak and fries. Servers are very busy, bustling around clearing tables, taking orders, etc, but they are vigilant if you need anything. We saw one table of ~10 order a steak platter, and it was a sight to behold - a massive wooden cutting board packed with steak, transported by two waiters.
