Good ol coffee
Jenn A.

Lookin for a cozy, classic, local, and friendly diner? Al's is the place. No complaints. This is your classic local diner. Food was very quick, and staff was there to always fill your cup of coffee and attend to any need. Prices were reasonable and they had all the classic breakfast options available. Eggs Benny was very good. I wish I ordered a half plate, as my stomach always fools me. I was stuffed after eating only half the plate -- even though I wanted to eat more. We also tried the breakfast sandwich which was good. I liked how they had the option for sourdough bread (my favorite). Coffee was comforting as you would expect from a diner like this. Nothing fancy here, but it will definitely be a go-to place for me if I'm in the mood for a classic breakfast.

They happily put the game on when we asked and were very attentive throughout our visit, which made a great first impression. I ordered the burger with bacon and blue cheese and requested no condiments. I think there may have been some confusion in the kitchen, as the garnishes were left off as well, but our server promptly brought them out when asked. Unfortunately, the burger itself was overcooked and lacked flavor. The ciabatta roll was only partially toasted, and overall the dish fell a bit flat. The fries, however, were excellent hot, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and absolutely delicious. I don't usually like coated fries, but these were a home run. My dining partner ordered the BLT and said the sandwich was great overall. We also shared the mozzarella sticks appetizer. They were a bit different from traditional mozzarella sticks, thicker cheese with a heavier breading. While they were good, I felt the order should have included six instead of four. Overall, even though we were one of only two tables in the restaurant, we had a great lunch, thanks largely to the excellent service.

We stayed at the hotel and decided to have breakfast here since it was convenient. We chose the…read morebuffet, which was fine overall. The bacon was okay, the eggs tasted like they might have been reconstituted, the English muffin was tough, but the white toast was excellent, thickly cut and toasted just right. The fruit and coffee were both okay. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and really tried hard to make sure we had what we needed. Service was definitely the highlight. The restaurant was clean and though there were lots of people there it wasn't too noisy. I was surprised to see how worn the booth seating was. It was convenient and quick, which fit our morning plans, but we decided to try other spots in town for the rest of our meals.

This review is way overdue. This is my go-to spot for special occasions…read more I first discovered this place about five years ago when my husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary. We had such a wonderful experience that we came back to celebrate our anniversary three years in a row. Funny enough, we always seem to get seated in the same booth and have had the pleasure of the same great service each time. The COVID years were the only time we didn't go. Tip: Order the tomahawk to share--it's the best dish hands down on the menu, in my opinion. The fat is perfectly charred, and the meat just melts in your mouth. Tip #2: Get the crème brûlée for dessert--you won't regret it. Must order: Brussels sprouts appetizer, green salad, Caesar for two, and the New York steak. Skip: Ribeye steak, escargot, and the seafood tower. Before the main courses, they provide a palate cleanser, which is a really nice touch. Reservations are recommended, but I've seen people walk in after an evening at the casino and get a table with only a short wait. There's a bar nearby where you can grab a drink while you wait.

I've driven by Sliced many times on the way to the mall restaurants and figured it was some sort of…read morefranchise and the food would be meh. Big mistake. Big. I decided to try it on a Tuesday. Arrived during the hottest day of the year so far to find a nice cool, clean, classy interior. Was immediately greeted by a friendly hostess who seated me immediately. Restaurant was moderately quiet. Water and menu obtained, I perused the choices and decided Pizza was the thing. The pizza prices were a bit on the high side for a franchise place but the descriptions were promising with some interesting ingredients. Then I spotted it on the bottom of the menu...the Fig Pig. How could I not try it! About 15 minutes later it arrived, I took the first bite and Oh My Lord...when they redo the menu, it needs to be at the top. This is my new favorite pizza in Bellingham. Salty, crispy, meaty and sweet. It hits all the hot buttons. The crust is actually tasty, the pork is perfectly done. It was freaking delicious. Even better, once I finished half the pizza...it was that good...and a box and the check were delivered...the pizza was half off. I called the hostess over to ask if it was a mistake and she said all pizzas are half off on Tuesdays. I now know my Tuesday dinners. I've told a bunch of people now and will be taking my neighbors next Tuesday. Oh and turns out it's not a franchise but a family run restaurant.and it was staring me in the face the entire time. In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger...I'll be back.

We called because we knew we'd be arriving close to closing, and the owner couldn't have been more welcoming. That level of hospitality continued throughout the entire meal. The food was phenomenal. Every dish was beautifully prepared, our server was friendly and incredibly knowledgeable, and even the kids' meals were a step above what you'd expect. We also happened to visit on pasta and wine night, which made an already great experience even better. It's rare to find a restaurant that excels at both food and customer service, but Sliced absolutely does. We live about five hours away, and it's honestly worth the drive. If we're ever back in the area, this will be our first stop.
