Just a friendly reminder, this is a diner! It is family owned and they put a lot of heart and soul into their cooking! When it comes to breakfast, the blue berry pancakes are the best eats! Good place for breakfast all day! I had the N.E.O. Which is nova lox and onions scrambled in 2 eggs. Very tasty!! Lots of times these scrambles are too salty, but this was perfect. The breakfast potatoes are wonderful- no grease whatsoever!! Just browned red potatoes! Hubby had a humongous breakfast burrito and really liked it! FULL of 3 eggs and veggies and topped with salsa and sour cream. The toast comes covered in butter, so order it dry if that's no your thing. Service was a bit slow. Went to Arlis's for Sunday morning breakfast and it was a delicious, old diner, classic breakfast kinda feel. I got the oatmeal which came with milk, banana, brown sugar, and raisins. It was very filling and very good, and a great price! I also go a cinnamon roll which was probably the best cinnamon roll I have ever had! My brother got the beast, which was a country fried steak with gravy, potatoes, eggs, and toast, and he loved it! I've been coming to Arlis's since I moved to Bellingham over 18 years ago and I always...well pretty much always...get one thing: the half order biscuits and gravy with a perfectly poached egg on top. A few times I've branched out, though. For example I tried their decadent meatloaf and eggs with its hollandaise-covered deliciousness. And if I'm in the mood for a sweet treat their pecan waffle is the way to go. I've never been disappointed. The food at Arlis's ain't fancy, and neither is the decor, but its good, classic diner fare and its super affordable. What puts this place over the top, though, is the incredibly friendly service of their staff. The servers are friendly, fast, and efficient. There's no parking here so don't forget to plug your meter if you find yourself lingering a little too long over that third cup of coffee. read more

If you live in Whatcom County and you like breakfast food, you've heard of Arlis's. Thinking back, this was the first breakfast I ever had in Bellingham. From the homestyle, crispy hash browns, to the smiling Waitresses who have been there since I started college, this place is utter comfort. Come early and you will see the working crowd coming in for coffee before they start their day, a little later and it will be crowded with families and children demanding pancakes, and give it a few more hours and you will see the hungover college crowd looking for anything with potatoes and grease. I am a massive fan of any of their eggs Benedict, my latest kick is their smoked salmon version. Perfect every time. I have come here with groups of every size and the service never varies. They have a great back room they can open up for larger parties and are happy to do so. read more

Arlis's breakfast diner was on the todo list for some time. The place is your "A" typical corner diner and almost missed it when I was out looking for it. When you walk in, the interior is very much from the early 70's. The server was quick to seat me and poured a quick cup of coffee. Looking at the menu, nothing really stood out, so tried the house special "Gary's Super Omelet". It pretty much has a lot for veggies and some breakfast meat like sausage and bacon. To my surprise, it was really fresh, and not ever done. You could taste every item they put in it. Even the mushrooms. The flavor really was balanced and had a nice pop to it with just a slight crunch of the veggies. The chef really did make it right and nothing overcooked, it was just right! The servers were attentive and made sure my coffee was topped off the entire stay. I was really surprised at the quality and service of the food. The place just didn't seem like it when you walked in. I'm glad I was finally able to try the place out. I'll be back for another visit for this great food. read more

Been looking forward to eating here and was slightly disappointed. We sat down and waited 20 minutes for a waitress to come up to us. Never did, we had to flag her down to order. Had to ask for water from a different waitress, and flag down someone for more coffee. Watched them refill everyone's coffee around us but didn't come to our table? Never once did anyone actually come up to our table to ask if we needed anything? Food was alright and came fast. People that got sat after us were all ready done eating by the time we got our food. My daughters and I have had breakfast at Arliss a few times this year and we enjoyed every single occasion. The flavors are great. The potatoes are full of flavor and not oversalted play the eggs are obviously good quality because I've been delicious. The pancakes for light and fluffy and the biscuits for the best we've ever had. The service is wonderful and everyone was very positive and very kind. Really good diner. We went at 10am and were worried we might not get a table but we severely underestimated how big it is. The decor is pretty fun with lil signs about how great coffee is. Definitely has a classic diner feel. I got the smoked salmon Benedict and they griddled the salmon and it was SO GOOD it was a lil crispy and I had never had it like that on a Benedict. The potatoes were also awesome. They were like half home fries and half hash browns they were wonderful. The service was great. Super attentive server and she was just so fun and nice. I also love a place that offers a trivia question because it keeps you busy while you wait. All in all a great place to grab some breakfast. Will be returning. read more

They have GREAT service here. The most outstanding thing about the experience was how attentive without being annoying everyone was. The food: Good. Not my favorite stuff, but I'll come back and try more. Omelets on point. Biscuits are good. Sausage is solid. I think they serve Tropicana orange juice which is QUALITY compared to Minute Maid. My to complaints the potatoes - I think they're boiled then griddled which makes them weirdly mushy. I like crispy potatoes for breakfast. And the gravy, on the biscuits and gravy, was sweet? Just not my thing. Unlimited cup of coffee for $2.19/cup. Tasty coffee, not super bitter traditional diner sludge. Large OJ is $3.49. worth it. read more

Second time I had breakfast here. This time it was eggs benedict with crabcakes on it, and hash browns. Benedict was good, and so were hash browns, but the potatoes were way too salty. In this day and age, salt is a no no. Better to let the customer salt things themselves. read more

The place is clean, generic, lacks funkiness or much appeal in decor. An institution we we were told. And there you have it: a clue. The coffee was hot and bitter, but it kept coming. The veggie omelet and flat greasy hash browns had me wishing we weren't adventurous, and the eggs Benedict, with salmon for me, was meh. Okay, mind you, but so portion controlled it felt like a cafeteria, and the veggie omelet got taken home for the kids. Maybe if they're super hungry after school.... All said, this place is okay, but other choices so close by beckon with their authentic diner smells, tastes and ambience that makes a breakfast coffee date more fun. read more

Mother's Day was packed. We were there an hour and a half to be seated and get our food and eat. But that's to be expected on Mother's Day I'm sure. Two of us had Crab cake Eggs Benedict and one had traditional. It was very good, but the hash browns were a little undercooked. Arlis's is the best, it's such great ambiance and I love the food. I've really only done breakfast here so can't speak to the lunch, but I got my husband and his friends obsessed with it now. My husband always gets The Beast and he loves it, delicious chicken fried steak and gravy. They have great pancakes and amazing omelettes. I love their sausage too! When I used to work downtown I would pop over for an egg and two sausages in a to-go box to take to the office. So friendly, and it's such a cool diner setting, it reminds me of that famous painting of the diner. Great for sipping coffee, chatting, and people watching. I particularly recommend the corned beef hash, the biscuits, and of course The Beast. They have pie too, I can't believe I haven't tried it but I'm sure it's great! read more

This is a real dive place - reminds me of places I used to go with my parents in the Midwest, 30 years ago. We came at noon - four of us. This was on a lark, since our first choice, Home Skillet had a 45 minute wait for a table, and then 45 minutes for lunch. Noon on a Thursday. This place is basically empty. A total of three other people here... I had the taco potatoes, and others had omelettes and one had a cheeseburger. All-in-all, the food was not really that great. Also, the menu was very limited. The wait staff was very nice and quick with our food, so that was appreciated. I am not really sure what I expected....because this is a diner with one "$". I am not sure I would recommend this place, unless they overhaul the menu. read more
