I was traveling through Venice in a party of eight and our group stumbled across this hidden gem restaurant. We had to wait 20 minutes for our table due to the size of our group and the fact that the restaurant was a little small , once we got inside we were taken by a display case of tapas sandwiches that looked fresh and delicious. We ordered pizzas , pasta dishes , Venetian liver and the tapas sandwiches. I was able to sample all the food and have to say everything was delicious! The pasta was perfectly done with tasty rich in flavor sauces and my liver was thinly cut with a tasty gravy and onions and the pizza was the best pizza we had ever tasted . I also had a not-so-great experience, but luckily it wasn't because the owner threw me out and tried to fight me. It's simply because the food isn't good. I had the trio of baccala and was excited to be trying some polenta in Venice. Big mistake. The polenta was grilled but not enough to create a nice texture. It was a sad, soggy block. One of the preparations of cod was Vicentina. I've never had it before, but this might prevent me from ever trying it again. It tasted like cod in cheese. Put simply, the guy running this place is not a nice person, and clearly doesn't like tourists. He regularly chases off customers by asking what they're going to order before they even sit down. As for the food, it is greasy, cheap, bottom of the barrel Italian food. Only reason we are here was because we needed a very quick bite very close to our hotel and didn't mind the no frills nature of things. If being treated poorly by an older Venetian gentleman is on your Italy to-do list, head here. Otherwise, stay far, far away. read more

I went to this place last month with three friends - I'm italian, my friends are german. I can confirm the statements in other reviews: the owner does not like tourists, and it's not only because he does not speak good english. He just talked to me and ignored the persons sitting with me at the same table. We arrived at 7.45 pm and he didn't tell that they would close at 9. We just wondered why he asked to order all dishes, we first wanted to have starters and than order the main courses, but no. After we understood why - after bringing quick starters and than the main courses my friend asked for red wine (we had prosecco with starters) and he just put a glass in front of him without asking before which kind he likes telling "all our wine is good". At least he didn't accept payment per card, but this was just the topping on a miserable cake - because, I can't share the review, that "food is fresh, service is excellent": food is mediocre (many better and cheaper places even in Venice) and service: see above. I never write reviews but this is one I have to put on record because of our horrible experience. Can't even give a star for this restaurant. We have been in Italy for two weeks and never received this type of service. We walked in and got seated and ordered a bottle of red wine and 2 glasses of Prosecco with 3 appetizers. The owner then looked at us and then told us that we have to order more food to stay in the restaurant...... So we ordered 2 more main dishes and that still was not enough for him!! He then told us to get out and go across the street for snacks.... WTF?? Snacks! We were dumbfounded and the entire restaurant was wondering what happened as well. BEWARE: I wish I would have read reviews before going here. It has been 12 hours since my wife and I have eaten and we are still shaken. Despite rude service throughout the meal- and being charged for bread and olive oil at the end - it was not this that made me come here to review. When we went to pay, the man in charge (shorter guy, gray hair, middle aged) told us we could not pay with credit card. The ladies next to us literally just did, but he told us we could not. We did not have any cash. He told us "it's not his problem". We kept asking why the women next to us were able to pay with cc and we were not. He said we didn't spend enough money. Apparently 30 euros for lunch was not enough. He told us to go get cash out of the atm, however we are visiting from the USA and have no bank card that works here. He came to the table and took my phone!!! Which was holding 2 credit cards and my license on the back, and said he would not give it back until we paid. Luckily my wife had quick hands and grabbed it back while telling him not to touch our stuff. He was yelling at us in broken English and Italian. We plead with him to pay with cc. Clearly he was capable of taking cc and was just being stubborn. He then proceeded to block me in and told my wife to go get money and I could not leave until she returned. He literally tried to physically prevent me from leaving!!!! Not that it matters what gender anyone is, because it unacceptable behavior either way, but we are both females. I kept telling him not to touch me as he wedged himself between my wife and I. It's a narrow cafe and my wife was closest to the door then him, and finally me. I could not get past him. My wife was pulling me so hard to try and break his stance and get me out of there she was slipping on the floor. It was insane. The whole cafe was watching. My wife got to the door and was yelling for help! He yelled some Italian and broken English about it being impossible to win because he can't hit us because we are girls!!!! My husband and I were kicked out of this restaurant. Why? Because my husband asked for oil and vinegar (for our bread) and we were told by the owner that it is too expensive to use on bread. My husband offered to pay for the use of it. The owner refused. The owner got so angry (even though we were willing to pay extra for the use of the oil and vinegar) that he grabbed our plates off the table and told us to get out. He then proceeded to put his hands on my husband, who told him in no uncertain terms to not touch him. He continued to push and grab at my husband. We finally got outside and the owner wanted to actually physically brawl. His waiter and cook held him back. There were many witnesses to this unbelievable scene. This is our 3rd week in Italy and about our 20th year of almost daily restaurant dining. NEVER EVER in our lives have we experienced anyone so unsuited to dealing with the public. This man is dangerous. Eat here at your own risk. NOT WORTH IT. You don't know what will set this guy off. Apparently, asking for oil and vinegar does. Any of the witnesses would tell you that my husband and I did not do or say anything inappropriate. We are normal people who have never been treated this way. There are so many amazing restaurants in Venice - choose ANY OTHER restaurant. Let me be clear: THE OWNER OF THE RESTAURANT GRABBED AND PUSHED MY HUSBAND AND THEN WANTED TO BRAWL ONCE WE GOT OUTSIDE.
