This place was really good. We arrived a little before opening, and, to our surprise, they opened right on time - not necessarily a given post siesta! Upon arrival we were welcomed by the friendly host and seated right away. The tables are these cute booth style seating. While very cute, they're also very tight - really designed for two people. I sat next to my young kiddo and we both found it somewhat uncomfortable. The seats are also quite shallow which made me feel like I was sitting at the end of my seat (I'm an average height guy ~6 ft). The restaurant was beautiful and felt like you had stepped into an old Moroccan bazaar. Really great balance of tradition and culture without being too tacky. After asking a few questions about the menu to manage dietary restrictions, we landed on the humus, babaganoush, chicken tagine and chicken couscous. Both the hummus and babaganoush were served with a pita bread. They were both solid. Flavors were on point. My one observation, and this could be due to Moroccan preparation, was the hummus was a bit thinner than most hummus. So while flavor was great consistency was a bit off to me. The main dishes were both wonderful. The chicken tagine was a generous portion, great for sharing. Two chicken drumsticks with a ton of veggies and fruits cooked to perfection that the meat fell off the bones. The sauce was tasty and well spiced. The couscous was similarly generous two drum sticks buried under a mountain of couscous and topped with a selection of root veggies and accompanied by a side of "salsa" aka chicken broth. read more

Amazing and authentic Moroccan food! We started with the babaganoush with bread, and got the chicken tagine and vegetable couscous as our mains. SO DELICIOUS! The chicken was tender and falling off the bone, the vegetables were cooked perfectly, and the couscous was light and fluffy. I think the item I was honestly most impressed with was the mint tea that we ended our meal with. I'm a huge tea fanatic and this was super refreshing. They give you lotus water and tell you to add a few drops to your tea, which took it to another level. Overall an amazing experience with delightful staff and highly recommend that everyone comes here to give the place a try! read more

Great Moroccon food in the heart of Malaga! We stopped in for a late lunch and was greeted by a friendly man. He seated us promptly and explained the menu and the potion sizes. Good thing as they are large and I would have hated to over-ordered. We started with Arabic warm bread and hummus. A side of olives was free. All very tasty. The hummus was sprinkled with fresh paprika and drizzled with olive oil. So good! Then we had the paprika (red peppers) and onion 'salad'. The peppers were so flavorful. Our main course was Vegetable CousCous in a tangine served with a sauce. It was topped with raisins and garbanzo beans. The vegetables were plentiful. We finished with a mint tea ordered without sugar. We love a good Moroccon Mint tea served in the small glasses with sprigs of fresh mint and this pour did not disappoint. Great value. We came here for dinner last night and sooooo glad that we did! The food and ambience are heavenly. Upon entering, the decor and smells immediately transport you to the souks of Fez. There is a warm, cozy atmosphere with seating for only 19 people and some tables only for 2. It is warm and sexy, and a good date spot. There are a lot of authentic looking pieces of pottery and metal work from Morocco in the small space but it doesn't feel cluttered. It adds to the restaurant's charm. We were warmly greeted and seated. Menus are in an array of languages. There is a simple, straight forward list of 10 or so entrees. My only complaint is that entrees are not explained with the accompaniments so if you have allergies you must ask about each item. We did so anyway and the person who seated us was very helpful. I had the lamb couscous. The lamb was nicely, warmly spiced, tender and exactly what I had been seeking. All of the veggies in the dish were equally good. There was enough couscous to feed a small army. My husband had the beef with prunes and almonds which also was quite good. There is a selection of Moroccan and Spanish wines from which to choose (we only had sparkling water). If we end up moving here, this is a place to which we would return. I see why fellow Yelpers liked it and to them I say, thank you for leading us here this evening. read more

We followed the good Yelp recommendations and were not disappointed with this kitschy little Arabesque restaurant where the tables are lighted with candles that are the tall drippy mounds of a hundred candles before. We chose the "try everything excellent on the menu" recommendation which took the three of us on a culinary journey through pitas, hummus, olives, kefta salad, lamb kebobs with harissa sauce (amazing!), and mixed meat and vegetable tagine with couscous. It was the most sumptuous, juicy Moroccan tagine and couscous I've ever had in Spain--they said it was due to the way it is prepared differently in Northern Morocco and Algeria vs. what I have experienced before (southern and western-coastal regions). Then they finished us off with sweet mint tea and an assortment of dates and pastries of honey, almonds, pistachios and sesame. An excellent Málagan travel experience for a bit over 80€! read more

I saw the reviews on yelp about this place and decided to check it out. Seeing that Malaga is close to North Africa I had reasonably high expectations and I really enjoyed it here, but not enough to give it five stars. The restaurant is quite small and located in amongst a set of apartment buildings. The windows are all stained glass and not easy to peek in. The interior is decorated like an Arabic house with lots of coloured rugs and brass. The menu is not extensive but nice. Tagines, cous cous dishes and some starters. I had a salad, soup, hummus and pita. All tasted great and the pita was also very nice. The flavours here were great and whilst the hummus was not the best it was quite nice. It is a bit on the pricey side however he quality is good. I would come back here again. It's a nice place for something different in town. read more

A good find in Malaga if you are looking for a little bit of a change & like to try something different (a.k.a Moroccan) while in Spain. The restaurant has been there for over 30 years & its very authentic & intimate. It's also cosy & small & they don't have so many tables but we got there right when they open & it was low season too so it wasn't any problem. The menu prices match the quality as well. My favorite Moroccan food anywhere Very flavorful, fast and fresh. Huge portions. I started with perfectly flavored hummus and a juicy lamb kebab and finished with a 3 meat tagine that was just beyond. I am only sad they were closed on my last night in Malaga. Best food in Malaga period. I was really not impressed with the Spanish tourist food around the main plaza or at any of those beachfront tourist traps so I was very happy when I found Al Yamal. From the warm welcome by the owner, with his wife in the kitchen to the most delicious and savory dishes ever! We asked him to please select for us. We went with that, and it wasn't cheap but not crazy expensive for such a nice meal and service in an expensive/touristy town. €140 for four, wine, beer, water. It was awesome! We all loved it, from my super picky mother to my spice loving sister. There is something for everyone on this menu. We had chicken, lamb, beef, chicken tayin(?) and beef/lamb couscous it all was delicious. The hummus and bread may have been the best I've ever tasted. Omg where do I begin. The food is delicious here! Our service was here great when we came and I loved how I felt that I was transferred to Morrocoo. The decor of the place is outstanding. We ordered hummus, beef patties and the mixed meat couscous. I would recommend all of it just know that in the mixed meat options the chicken is actually chicken leg (not breast). Also, I have had more flavorful hummus back in the States (it was missing some more olive oil and zaatar in my opinion) so probably wouldn't order it again. Had a great meal here on our trip to Malaga! It's down a shady street but the food is worth it. My husband and I shared a lamb and kofta kebab plate that was plenty of food... 3 skewers, hummus, pita and salad. The lamb was sooo tender! We accidentally (language issue) also ordered two tagines-- one chicken and one beef. They were also delicious and came with potatoes soaked in gravy with raisins. Hot and delicious! A real gem in Málaga. A very cute and quaint corner restaurant with great decor and even better service. They have menu translations in multiple languages, including English and German. We were the first customers there at around 2030 and seemed to have the whole place to ourselves until around 2200 when it started filling up with the locals. Even as it got busier, the owner/waiter was still very attentive. Based on his recommendations we started with the pita and hummus. The pita was fresh and hot from the oven, perfectly doughy and delicious. The hummus was spot on and left us craving for more of that smooth, garlicky flavor. Then a plate of kefta which was amazingly flavorful and the spot of sauce on top added the perfect amount of spicy, heat. Our two entrees were the chicken and lamb mixed couscous and the beef with plums and raisins, both perfectly cooked in their own tagines. All the meat was super tender, and melted in your mouth with flavor. Absolutely the best Moroccan meals I've had yet. We finished up with some delightful mint tea, with the tea being poured over a small bouquet of mint that was inside each glass. All this and a bottle of surprisingly delicious Moroccan red wine for €75. A wonderful place for a date night without going over the top. read more

What a find! We traveled around Andalusia for 2 weeks and this was by far the best meal we had. We just loved everything about this place. How small and quaint it was, the family running it, the presentation of our dinner and of course the food. The Chicken tagine with the cous cous is probably one of the best dishes I've ever had! So many flavors, so delicious. The mint tea and desert pastries were delicious and again a wonderful presentation. The service was all around top notch.
