My favorite things about Ala Moana Beach Park and Magic Island: -Convenient and easy to get to. Huge parking lots. Even though it can get crowded, it's much easier to find a spot here than any other beach. -Little to no waves which makes this spot perfect for young kids. The waters are still and it's a great spot for floating on an inflatable or for stand up paddle boarding. I've taken a SUP yoga class before which was super hard but fun. -Great place to walk. Lots of walking paths. You'll often see runners taking in the beautiful views of Diamond Head and Waikiki and getting their sweat on. The cons: -You'll still get your fair share of transient folks taking over some of the shower and bathroom areas as well as the sidewalks. In our latest walk, there were a fair share of large shopping carts with things on the trails. It used to be much much worse but something to keep in mind. read more

Ala Moana Beach in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii is my favorite beach! I have been posting photos on the Ala Moana Regional Park business page. Clearly, the park and this beach are different even though they are across a small street from one another. Thanks to whoever made this business page! Ala Moana Beach deserves to be separate from Ala Moana Park! The beach has outdoor showers as well as showers in the two restrooms. Families usually picnic closest to the restrooms. There are benches along the sidewalk for people to sit and watch sunsets and pedestrians passing by. There's a concession stand that is currently run by L&L Drive In. Lifeguard stands are spaced out along the stretch of beach even though the water is usually calm. Best of all, parking is free at Ala Moana Beach! It's no wonder that there are so many surfers, joggers, swimmers, stand up paddle boarders, tourists, and local families here! read more

I remember making a lot of memories at Ala Moana/magic island beach park. Ala Moana/magic island beach was at least better before than today. However, you'll still be able to swim and enjoy our door activities here. My family had to relocated our bbq-ing to the next tree due to another party having a permit for a special event with more than 25 people. It was a beautiful day though! It's not just a beach, it's the most popular local beach on all the islands. It's part of a great park, and although it can get crowded it's never as infested with tourists in touching distance as Waikiki. The water is better protected for swimmers (the surfing is farther out) than Waikiki. One of the world's most elite lifeguarding teams keeps swimmers safe and there is some excellent and affordable food. Lots of families on picnics and barbecues, it's one of my favorite beaches in the world. read more

This is one of the best beaches to go to with family and small kids. The beach itself is fairly flat and you can walk out pretty deep, there a reef further out which helps break the waves so the water is always calm there. Plenty of lifeguards on duty, bathroom and shower facilities near and places to park as it not only has a decent size parking lot (free) it also has spaces all the way down the road. The beach is just the beginning! Ala Moana Beach is one of my favourite beaches on Oahu (this is a bit biased since I haven't been to too many). However, when the parking lot wasn't under construction, there was a lot of available parking (more on that later). Also, it is conveniently located across from Ala Moana Center, so after a long day of shopping, you can go relax on the beach. The beach nearest Magic Island is shallow enough for young children and non-swimmers. The sand it nice and white and there is enough space for a large amount of beachgoers (physical social distance!). Lifeguards are strategically placed along the shoreline and every time I'm at the beach (usually later in the day during the week) they are on duty and vigilantly looking out for swimmers in danger. Pre-pandemic, you are almost always guaranteed to see a wedding party take pictures along the picturesque shoreline. The adjoining park is always bustling with fitness enthusiasts or families out for a stroll. The beach is always busy too - swimmers, children playing along the shoreline, swimming lessons, and sunbathers, among other activities. Parking along the road is always always packed. You'd be lucky to get parking if someone is leaving. Since at least mid-2020, the parking lot has been under construction. This drastically reduces a lot of parking spaces. I heard it will be at least a year before it is done (don't quote me on that). Worse case scenario, you can always park at the mall, at your own risk, and walk over. Go to Ala Moana Beach, you won't be disappointed! read more

Born and raised in the island, I've gone to this beach all my life. I can't remember at what point in time I transformed from a fish to vampire, but it happened and there's no turning back. I used to practically live in the water as a kid. Maybe in my teens I just stopped loving the beach. Even with that said, this beach is still a nice place to go for my family. I don't remember there being so many rocks going into the water. Some areas will have more rocks than others so if its too much, just walk down the beach a bit. Parking can be a problem at times. There's quite a bit of parking but it can take some time and luck getting a nice stall. Theres two ways into the beach park and its just one lane in and one lane out. There are points where you can turn around but its far and few in between. As we drove through I could see there are showers, bathrooms, and food shacks. You might have to walk a bit to reach those points but they are there. Although I don't care for the sun, the sand, and salt water... I will still visit this beach as long as my family wishes to visit. I will wait on the beach blanket, slathered in sun screen and trying to avoid as much of all the beach has to offer like the party pooper I am. BUT, I will stick it out for them because they enjoy it! Weather you love the beach or not, I still recommend a visit. The view is great. Nature is awesome. Just wear sunscreen and water! read more

this beach is COVERED in ants. The waves are decent, you just have to go pretty far out to avoid all the big rocks on or near the shore. It's a nice park with a well kept running path, but if you're coming here to tan or lay out, go somewhere else. read more

Since this beach was close to our hotel, we wanted to go and swim there. This beach was definitely less crowded than Waikiki beach (we avoided this beach). The sand was pretty soft. But, man were there a lot of rocks here. My siblings and I had to find the right spot to swim in that had little to no rocks. This was between two trees that were next to the lifeguard post. I'm sure there were other spots too, but we tried to space out from other swimmers. It was still an enjoyable swim and the view of the sun overlooking the water was beautiful. Overall, this was not a bad spot to get your swim in if you're itching to be on the beach and swim in the water. read more

One of the most beautiful beaches on the island of Oahu. This beach has everything you could possibly need... parking, lifeguards, restrooms, showers and bbq to go. Beautiful views and easy access into the ocean. The water's not too rough, the waves aren't very big so no it's not really a surfer's beach. The South shore is more calm for swimming, paddle boarding or kayaking or just a nice long walk. There's always a nice breeze here and lots of trees for shade for us light-skinned peeps. Always a great wonderful beach on the South Shore to go to, even though it can get very crowded on weekends and holidays and throughout the summer. Also a great place to catch a sunset. This is a great beach right in the heart of Honolulu. If you want a local vibe beach rather than the Waikiki zoo this is a great choice. In the evening you will have to fight a little bit for parking but you won't be disappointed once you step out of the car and onto the beach. The lull of the calm waves washing gently against the soft sand of this quaint strip of shoreline were pure serenity during one banger of a golden hour. The Ala Moana Beach Park directly connected to it is bustling with a steady stream of physical activity on any given hour, but never in a chaotic way. There are parking stalls but because this park is attractive for a number of different activities -- namely SUP and SUP yoga for the calm, glassy waters -- it might be difficult to find a spot. I intended to come to watch the sunset like so many others and definitely had to keep an eye out for anyone leaving. Somehow I did get lucky and snagged something! While situated on my blanket on the soft sand, I experienced quite the magical show of alpenglow during one epic golden hour. Others often grumble that the strip of beach is too narrow and small, but maybe they do so to scare away the crowds that would only end up destroying the laid-back quality of this perfect little beach. read more

When recently asked which beach was my favorite on the island, I had a hard time coming up with an answer. However, Ala Moana Beach immediately popped into my mind, as I spent many days here as a teenager. Located conveniently across the street from Ala Moana Shopping Center, it is a great way to end a day of shopping and is simply highly convenient for those of us who live or work in town. There tend to be less tourists here since it is across the canal from Waikiki, so there is a bit more of a local vibe. The park adjacent to the beach is also great with a walking path of about two miles encompassing it. There is a lot of green, open space and a few snack stands to grab some food at as well. It is a good place to meet up with friends, have a potluck, and spend a fun day outside. read more

Good beach to go for a swim, I forgot which side it was but the shore had a lot of rocks but after swimming outwards it got better. The beach also has a good trail to go running and lots of grassy areas nearby to have a picnic. Also if you need parking to explore Waikiki, this is the area to park at. It's very clean. The sand is nice here. They have breakers to stop the waves from hitting the shore so hard, which is good for families. I love Ala Moana Beach park. It's one of those places where you can either go to the beach and have some fun in the water, go fishing, surfing, or have a picnic in the park, throw a small party, have a wedding, go for a run, play a sport in the park, exercise, etc. Love the layout of Magic Island. I like going for jogs during sunset, I like a view when working out. Then at the end watching the sun go down as I cool down from my jog...so awesome. This beach was beautiful with awesome sunsets. However, after the sun set, there were definitely homeless activity appearing throughout and made it feel unsafe for us. Other than that, it would have definitely been a 5-star experience. read more
