Everything you would expect is offered here; swim and dive classes, water aerobics, a grilling area, adult swim, a baby pool, competent life guards, vending machines, etc... If there were any draw back, it would be the guest policies. I'm sure they are par for the course, I just wish a grandparent didn't have to pay when taking a member child. Lord knows, the kids could go more often if that were the case.

Katie is truly a gem--so loving, patient, and gifted at what she does. My kids look forward to swim lessons every year because of the joyful, confidence-building experience she creates. From the start, Katie clearly communicates expectations and guidelines via email, so you always know what to expect. She's amazing with kids--gentle yet effective--and by the end of the week, they're swimming! Most importantly, Katie genuinely cares about each child's safety and progress. I visited Oak Mountain State Park as part of the Mammoth March Hike, fully aware it was going to be…read morea major undertaking--but it still managed to shock me. The steep climbs up and down the mountain were incredibly challenging. At one point, I even slipped and slid down part of the trail but thankfully managed to do so gracefully without hurting myself. Being from Florida, I was definitely not accustomed to the elevation gain I was about to face. There were plenty of moments throughout the hike where I questioned why I signed up for this challenge, but pushing through and ultimately finishing made it all worth it. Having the bragging rights to say I conquered this terrain feels incredibly rewarding. That day, I didn't notice much floral life, and most of the critters seemed to be hiding--likely due to the large number of people participating in the hike. That said, I was still lucky enough to spot a rattlesnake and a black racer, which made the experience even more memorable. There were a few noteworthy areas worth stopping for, including an open area near a dam‑like structure and several peaceful river and creek spots along the route. While the park is absolutely massive and I know there was so much left unexplored, the 23 miles I trekked over 9 hours was more than enough for one day. If I find myself back in the area, I might just dare to return and explore some of the parts of the park I didn't get to see. Truly a beautiful park and an incredible asset for those who live nearby and get to enjoy it regularly.

There is a pool and showers and there is carpet in the locker room? Makes no sense! Besides that, the facility is fine. Because of my schedule I am there later in the evening and the place is typically packed with kids playing in various sports programs. The weight room equipment is dated, but you can get a good workout in. The indoor cycling room is crammed and not a great environment. One neat thing is the separate cardio room. The room is kept cool with fans running and has 4 televisions to keep people entertained. Great place for families, which is what the YMCA is there for, but not a great place for me.

Since then they have added and improved a great deal of things to this place! I have been going to this gym for over 5 years now and have absolutely loved it. The staff are all super kind and willing to answer questions and the head manager is always ready to answer anything too. When you first walk in you have the open area along with the day care room on your right and then you have the front desk and next to that is the smoothie bar! I have come to it to get plenty of Protein packed drinks to help refuel myself after a workout. They have a large variety of machines and freeweights on the ground floor on top of many other amazing options too. Upstairs you will have a more private workout area that is smaller and a vast majority of the cardio machines. Downstairs in the main area you will have the racket ball room, the workout/class room, the cycling room, the media room with a giant cinema screen to watch while working out, the pool area along with 24e's own version of crossfit in the room behind it. What is also awesome about the place is that they both come with spacious restroom and locker rooms. Fully equipped with showers and plenty of body wash or shampoo if needed. The guy's area comes with a sauna and a steamer room and I believe the women's rest room/locker room comes with a sauna as well. On top of this gym being a 24 hour access gym with scanning pass key access the community has really shown up and continued to grow and come to this gym over the years. And I am sure it will only continue to grow!

Friends and I were looking for a super-simple, laid-back way to kayak/canoe down the Cahaba one…read moreSaturday afternoon (minimal fuss with coordinating boats/rides, etc but maximal river time) . Canoe the Cahaba was the closest option to downtown Birmingham and offered two routes- 5.0 and 9.9 miles. We elected to do the longer 9.9 mile trip and were not disappointed. Their business model is pretty simple: they offer parking and a shuttle -boats in tow- to the appropriate put-in for your trip. Life vests, paddles and boats are all included and are in good working order. The paddle is easy, rapid-free so even novice outdoors-people will feel comfortable. Our 9.9 mile trip took about 6.5 hours with copious down time picnicking, swimming and rock skipping. We had a really brilliant time and look forward to using this outfitter again. The only caveat keeping this place from 5-stars is the too-casual way in which appointments are made. The number provided is someone's cell phone number and the communication is super casual. We ended up waiting over an hour past our reservation time on the day-of because the guy (possibly the only employee) was held up with a larger group... it would have been nice to sleep in or snag some breakfast if we had known he was going to be behind but 15 minutes turned into 60 without any fanfare. Nonetheless, a great opportunity for canoeing/kayaking in relatively close proximity to downtown.
