2 books I recently purchased for my parents! I love Kazuo Ishiguro!

I love this little bookstore. I got here whenever I need to find gifts for my Korean speaking/reading parents and always come away with a minimum of 2 books. I've purchased the Pachinko set (2 volumes in Korean), Crying in H Mart, The Remains of the Day, Never Let Me Go, some cookbooks, and several other translated works (that I don't know the title to in English). I think for Korean books, the prices are fair. I recently bought 2 Ishiguro books (hardcover Never let me go and paperback The Remains of the Day) for my parents for about $45. I'm all for supporting little local businesses so I don't bat an eye when buying from this little place. I always receive lovely service. I'm Korea American but I'm my super fluent in Korean, so I'm able to communicate w the owner with my broken Korean and by showing him screenshots of the books I want that I searched in advance. He's also always willing to order books for you if he doesn't haven something in stock. It's la Mirada, so parking is available and plentiful!

My loot for the day! A Korean cookbook for babies, a bilingual book (with two folktales), and a bilingual Bible storybook.

I was looking for Harry Potter in Korean, because I always wanted to buy Harry Potter in other languages.

As usual, I am surprised that I had not dropped a review for this bookstore, and I am here at least once a month, at the very least. Immense selection of books greeting cards, gifts, fiction, nonfiction everything is arranged and organized accordingly. I just love this bookstore. Great big parking lot that is free but it is shared among many businesses at the Long Beach town center. Great experience each time. Prices are fair (compared to Amazon?) at least you can actually pick up a book. Read it at the café and if you decide to buy it go for it if not, then just return it.

You could potentially get away from buying books and just open them up and read them there at the store. They have a large variety that I dare say it's at the same level as if you shopped online, they seem to also have "saucey" content in the mangas sections. The staff is friendly and are knowledgeable so they can recommend you a book! They also have this... $40 Yearly Barnes and Nobles Subscription that knocks off 10% (20% at rare occasions within the year) for every purchase as well as a free cafe drink upgrade if the bookstore has a cafe (NOT A STARBUCKS, THEY WILL NOT ACCEPT STATBUCKS GIFT CARDS), and a free annual tote bag (you cannot double dip for a second bag until you renew it). Unless you're planning on spending $400+ for the next 12 months or you're a regular cafe go'er, I wouldn't say this is for you. The seating for the cafe is fine, but can fill up real easily with most customers that intend to stay more than an hour.

It's such a refreshing change from the same old big-box store toys--everything here feels high-quality and thoughtfully chosen. The store is absolutely magical, with beautiful window displays and whimsical little scenes everywhere you look--it's truly a feast for the eyes. I especially love the children's book section--always so inviting and perfectly styled. And the owners are the sweetest--every visit feels like stopping in to see friends.

Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. While in line, my daughter's friend, who was standing in front of us, was incorrectly counted as part of our family/group. When the owner handed us only two tickets, I respectfully explained multiple times that she was not my daughter and was not part of our group. Despite this clarification, we were still denied the same opportunity that many other families appeared to receive. What was especially upsetting was seeing several larger groups leave the store with 6-8 NeeDohs, while our family was limited unfairly. I waited afterward to calmly explain the situation to the owners, but my concerns were dismissed. One of the responses I received was, "You are making this awkward for me." Rules and policies should be applied consistently and fairly to everyone. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling as though assumptions were made based on ethnicity, and that our group was treated differently because "we all looked alike." That is not acceptable. I have always enjoyed supporting small businesses, but discrimination or unequal treatment toward ethnic minorities is something I cannot overlook. This was a very disappointing experience, and unfortunately, it has changed my perspective on supporting this business moving forward.
