Jarir is one of the best resources for scholars of the Arabic language on the West Coast to get their fix of foreign language resources ranging from translated versions of Henry James to budget editions of the journeys of Ibn Battutah to beautifully engraved editions of Hadith literature (I've bought all three). Dictionaries, cookbooks, textbooks and children's books are also available, if one is looking for that sort of thing. Although prices can be a bit higher then on Amazon, or any of the other online resources, their incredibly knowledgable and friendly staff definitely makes up for any price differential from the internet and are more then willing to help a newcomer find any book within the cramped (and rather disorganized) confines of their store. Overall: Five Stars. An excellent selection of Arabic texts and excellent service make this bookstore a must-visit for anyone studying Arabic in Southern (and perhaps even Northern) California. The owner was so rude, he wasn't interested in really helping me. I asked for a book and he gave me a ripped book and when I asked for another copy, he told his assistant that "she can wait" while he kept speaking to his assistant. When he finally gave me the book and we were ready to check out, he gave me a bookmark but threw it at the book instead of handing it to me. Extremely bad service, I will not be returning! read more

I stopped in here 2 weeks back to buy an Egyptian flag. Jarir was able to find one quickly. This is the only store in Little Arabia that had one, surprisingly. This store has one of the largest selection of Arabic books. The service was very good and I was really surprised how I was able to find alot of books that I couldn't find anywhere else. Really awesome bookstore. Found a lot of good reads here and even Quran help books here. It has a really good location for me because I can go read some books and head over to the other markets next door. They have really great service. The younger guy seems more cool and helpful, but one time there was an older guy there and while I was reading in one of the stalls he kept walking back and forth in my aisle disrupting me when he couldve walked thru another aisle to get to the back room.
