4/4/26 This is one of my favorite locations of bookstores at the Long Beach town. Staff are friendly and very helpful. The location is perfect. Lots of parking. There is a café inside. As usual, I am surprised that I had not dropped a review for this bookstore, and I am here at least once a month, at the very least. Immense selection of books greeting cards, gifts, fiction, nonfiction everything is arranged and organized accordingly. I just love this bookstore. Great big parking lot that is free but it is shared among many businesses at the Long Beach town center. Great experience each time. Prices are fair (compared to Amazon?) at least you can actually pick up a book. Read it at the café and if you decide to buy it go for it if not, then just return it. read more

This Barnes & Noble is pleasant to look at from the outside, and upon entering the building, the layout is consistent with the standard Barnes & Noble franchise design. The store offers a large selection of books, with many titles covering the same genres but from varying perspectives, writing styles, and approaches. I visited with a specific purpose: to browse the spirituality, tarot, oracle, and divination section. While exploring the store, I also wandered through other departments to see if anything else caught my interest. Fortunately, I came across several items that I added to my mental list for a future purchase. However, the section I had originally come to see offered fewer choices than expected. This was both disappointing and surprising, as I have typically found a much wider variety of these subjects at other Barnes & Noble locations. Of course, I understand that each store's inventory varies. Unfortunately, my interactions with the staff significantly diminished the overall experience. During my visit, one employee repeatedly insisted that I take a shopping basket after I had already made it clear that I did not need one. She then entered my personal space, coming uncomfortably close to my face and behind my head while repeating herself several times. Her behavior came across as intrusive and demonstrated a disregard for personal boundaries, despite appearing to frame the interaction as customer service. I also used the restroom during my visit. It was a decent size, although it felt somewhat crowded. Given the volume of customers this location receives, I believe the restrooms could benefit from more frequent attention and maintenance. Finally, while checking out, I had another unpleasant interaction. The cashier made an unnecessary comment about the email address I provided, referring to it as "trash," or making a similarly negative remark. Regardless of the exact wording, the comment felt inappropriate, unprofessional, and entirely unrelated to completing my purchase. The overall price range is costly, the value is to be determined. Overall, the store itself is enjoyable to browse and offers a pleasant shopping environment. However, my experience with multiple employees left a lasting negative impression. If customer service and respectful interactions are important to you, this location may not meet your expectations. If you're simply interested in browsing the books and merchandise, your experience may depend largely on the staff you encounter that day. read more

I'm not much of a book guy BUT I bought and own two books from this establishment so I have some credibility here, I kinda just like going here for a potential third place hangout or study area if ever. You could potentially get away from buying books and just open them up and read them there at the store. They have a large variety that I dare say it's at the same level as if you shopped online, they seem to also have "saucey" content in the mangas sections. The staff is friendly and are knowledgeable so they can recommend you a book! They also have this... $40 Yearly Barnes and Nobles Subscription that knocks off 10% (20% at rare occasions within the year) for every purchase as well as a free cafe drink upgrade if the bookstore has a cafe (NOT A STARBUCKS, THEY WILL NOT ACCEPT STATBUCKS GIFT CARDS), and a free annual tote bag (you cannot double dip for a second bag until you renew it). Unless you're planning on spending $400+ for the next 12 months or you're a regular cafe go'er, I wouldn't say this is for you. The seating for the cafe is fine, but can fill up real easily with most customers that intend to stay more than an hour. read more

First - I am thankful to have a bookstore that I can hang out in and browse. This store is in a good location with ample parking. It also has a peaceful vibe and an area, set aside, that you can read at. There is a Starbucks, so you can sip and read. I've always had good service at this Carson location but today I had exceptional service from Nathalia. She was super helpful, patient and a delight to work with. It's employees like her that keep you coming back. And of course, Barnes & Noble pretty much has anything you are looking for as far as books, journals, etc. Today my purchase was a fountain pen along with an accessory. Their pricing was pretty good on both items. I'll be back again soon. read more

I don't know why I waited so long to stop in to this Barnes & Noble after moving into the area - it's conveniently situated near the 605 freeway, AMC theaters, and several casual eateries. The store is fairly large despite being a single story (as compared to say the Del Amo location) and boasts a wide selection of fiction/fantasy (left front), music/collectibles (back), and stationery/gifts (right front). Cafe is to the left of the entrance and a wonderful spot to bring a book or magazine you're in the middle of; baristas are super friendly and knowledgeable about their menu, too! This location is dog-friendly and we even had several associates and fellow customers compliment my rescue dog Darby on his puffer jacket. We can literally spend hours (and probably my life's savings, haha) perusing the stacks of books here. If you're into physical media, I wouldn't necessarily choose to purchase video or vinyls here on account of prices being higher than similar speciality stores in the area. That said though, there are many publications worth your while here! The one challenging thing about this location is the parking since spaces can be tight and people somewhat impatient - heck, I would be anxious too to get my reading fix. Be mindful of the direction of the diagonals and you should be set! read more

Stopped in because I needed to work on my laptop and there was a cafe that sold Starbucks products. Their cafe area is fairly big and I was able to find a table easily. I ordered at Strawberry Acai Lemonade Refresher and a savory pastry and both were really good. I went through the store afterwards and it was clean and neatly organized. Great place if you need to co-work for a little bit or do some silent sustained reading. There were outlets along the half-wall around the perimeter of the cafe area. There is a large parking out out front and there's lots of eateries surrounding the bookstore and they're off the 605 fwy. read more

Stopped by to pick up an order, and it was solid. I usually do pickup now instead of browsing around. The pickup process was easy, but you do have to wait in the regular line since there's no separate line for online orders. If the store is especially busy, you might be waiting for a bit, as the line can move slowly. Luckily, I went at a good time as the line wasn't bad. Parking was easy with plenty of spots available. I also try not to stay too long, since the more I browse, the more I want to buy (temptation always gets me). read more

Spending a little time inside, made me remember some good times long ago, when browsing in a book store was a common way to pass time and Amazon hadn't yet become such a ubiquitous word. My wife wanted to do some looking at the nearby DSW, so I decided to kill a little time inside this Barnes and Noble in Long Beach. Browsing through the titles and different parts of the store can give you a sense of current culture. After I did my requisite looking for any James Bond books, I walked over to the music section where the majority of the space was dedicated to vinyl records, albeit with current titles. I even saw a record player, but having Bluetooth output (which makes perfect sense). I did stop by the card game section...been meaning to pick up a copy of Monopoly Deal, and found a version with the help of a friendly store employee. Also picked up plastic (waterproof) playing cards and a colorful deck for my daughter as well. The store seems to be doing well, and hope it continues to do so. read more

I really do miss book stores. They keep closing down so I was happy to walk into this one. I totally missed the chairs that they used to have for customers to sit at and browse magazines and books. I understand they took it away because people were literally there all day, reading magazines, and books. I do like how each section is labeled correctly. If you need self-help books, there's a section for that. If you need cooking books, there's also a section for that. Now they have a lot of toys for sale for kids as well and I like their variety. Sometimes it's nice to browse through books at a bookstore instead of buying online. A few less stars as their restroom facilities need more frequent cleaning and restocking of supplies. read more

Since when can't you sit on the floor at a book store to look through books that are basically at ground level? Took my toddler and my baby and was kneeling down to look through the toddler books that were low to the ground while my toddler was sitting down on the floor right next to me looking through a few of the books. I had to put my baby down for a moment to free my hands. Felt like we were being watched the entire time and then an employee came over to tell us can't sit on the floor after only 5 mins of being in that section. I know it's not a public library, but have some respect and common sense for paying customers with young children. read more

I haven't been in a Barnes & Noble in a while. Things have changed over the years. They used to have seating areas for you to flip through books. The only place to sit is in the Starbucks Cafe inside. Not sure if you allowed to bring books inside. They have a couple chairs in the magazine area. Books are priced pretty reasonably. This is inside the shopping plaza so parking is available. read more

I come here for the sportscards and TCG cards they sell in the front counter. They usually have a good amount of these items in stock and I always leave buying a couple of them. Usually when a new sportscards or TCG product is out, this bookstore will have them in stock within a week of release date. Customer service is good. I often call ahead to ask what items they have in stock and everyone else is always so patient to provide me with what they have and pricing. There is also a cafe inside serving Starbucks and baked goods. They often give $1 off discounts for drinks and baked goods with the receipt. However, they don't accept the Starbucks app. The cafe also gets crowded. There is never a place to sit everytime I visit. read more

This is one of the few major book store still around that I know of. I enjoy browsing the different books selections and seeing what's new. I think the best thing about going to the book store is that they have a lot of unique Knick Knacks that you aren't going to find anywhere else. I used to always buy their how to kits and loved buying their miniature gift trinkets. There is also a Starbucks inside and a place to sit. Staff I've encountered are nice and it's just nice to shop at a physical bookstore. read more

The place is huge and amazing. I like going here because the sections are classified into categories of the books. They also have a coffee shops where you can sit and relax. I haven't tried the coffee shops but I'm hoping I'll be able to try it next time. Rude Starbucks female staff Saturday night 1/17/2026 7:40pm. Ordered a hot chocolate, didn't call it out, she yelled cafe with soy misto instead, I walked up to pickup and glared at me, I asked is this my hot chocolate, she replied YES IT'S YOUR HOT CHOCOLATE, how am I supposed to know if you yell out the wrong order when placing it on the counter, the service at this star bucks is inconsistent, maybe they don't like working the Starbucks counter, rather work the book store counter and having to switch between the two is irritating to them. read more

BEWARE!! I ordered and paid for my books online so that I can just pick them up without having to wait in the line to buy and purchase books in the store. I came in and was told there is NO Online Pick Up! I had to wait in line and there was 57 people ahead of me in line! I promised my 90 year old aunt that I would get her books before she left to go back to Arizona. VERY DISAPPOINTED that they are so unorganized here! read more

I really like this location. Although the selection and atmosphere have declined over time, especially since they no longer have a big music section, the exceptional customer service more than makes up for it. I always feel valued when I visit. The staff are very accommodating and allow you to take your time exploring, which is great considering the prices are high. However, we had a negative experience at the PCH location where we felt followed and made uncomfortable by the staff. Because of this, we have decided to shop exclusively at this location and maybe the Huntington Beach location to change things up. read more

1/01/2023, this place is still open and struggling to survive with their high book prices. Barnes and Noble stock price has been ridiculously low for several years now and no plans to rebound. Why this place hasn't yet filed for bankruptcy and closed the stores is beyond comprehension. They keep rearranging the inside of the stores to make it look different but that still doesn't help make money because folks aren't buying books anymore. People come in simply to browse through the books with their dirty hands and to buy a coffee and bagel to sit down on the hard chairs and benches to read through a few pages. It's time this place goes out of business. read more

I love that their isn't any pressure when coming into this store to buy books! I did notice tho they took out all the chairs so you can't just read and sit. So you do have to stand up and read if you wanna look into some books while there. Smart. But also, cleaver. I come here just when I wanna browse but sometimes I do buy books.
