Not quite ON BROADWAY, but close enough. If you are checking yelp on a theater, I assume you want to know about the view. Though I had front row, looking back at the beautiful Royale theater, it seemed that even the worst seat wasn't bad, and the hanging mezzanine was not a distraction, so go ahead and get any seats. It should be easy, thanks to the theater's namesake, award-winning producer Bernard B. Jacobs, who, besides co-running the largest and most powerful American theatrical empire, is credited with introducing computerized ticket sales. Which is why Eddie Vedder wrote a song about him. (Ok, not really). The experience wasn't perfect. Two inefficient lines snaked from both ends to get in. Barking security and gatekeepers treat people like cattle before and after the show. I got reprimanded for standing near the stage at intermission (um, I'm in the front row). The bathroom line is a mess that creates a conga line down the rows. But, I'm guessing that's the case for all these medium-sized theaters. As for the show, I saw The Outsiders. My opinion of the show doesn't matter here, but I can tell you about the first row experience. I was distracted by the background cast talking during the concession stand scene and thought I heard people talking backstage, which was a little odd. Your kids might see up Cherry and Marcia's short dresses if they're creepers. Don't worry, my friend says they're wearing undergarments. Being up close and to the side is not bad at all as some people warn. But, you will get sprayed with water during the rumble. It's not Sea World but maybe put your phone and Gremlins away. And the cast is purposely kicking rubber gravel bits into the first two rows in order to make the kitschy choreography "immersive". The pieces will get in your clothes. You might get pegged in the eye. Wear glasses and keep your mouth shut. I found one in my poop three days later. read more

I've been to the Bernard Jacob's Theatre a few times over the years ( I wish I could remember for which shows Ive seen here before.) This theater has a classic feel to it. I went to see the Outsiders and sat in the mezzanine. The view was great from the area. I dont think there's a bad seat in the house. One tip is to make sure you use the restroom before the show starts as the bathrooms are all the way downstairs, and there's only one main location. It gets crowded during intermission. Overall a great theater to visit for any show. read more

A small, ornate theatre with no bad seat in the house. Plenty of space between you and the row in front of you and the seats are very comfortable. The acoustics are really good. I love small theatres, you feel like you are a part of the show. read more

The theater is small so I think any seat would be a good seat. There was plenty of legroom. Absolutely had a great time at this theater. I'm 5'2 so the seating in the section B was roomy. My seat was 114 in row B. The seats were so close you could see the actors spit. The drinks were very expensive which you can expect. $68 for two souvenir cups with booze in them. We got the cherry cosmo and the do it for johnine drink. Really tasty. ::bathroom alert:: Lots of stalls in the women's bathroom. Stocked up soap, tons of washcloths, and not filled up to the rim garbage cans. The inside is golden with a beautiful chandelier in the center. I was jealous of the mezzanine seats because it looked glamorous up there! Prices of merch isn't too bad, its worth it if your a fan of the outsiders. read more

We came here to see "The Outsiders". The theater seats a little more than 1,000 people and it has an Old Time feel to it. The theater was opened in 1927, so it's an old building with a very classic feel. We got seats four rows from the stage and we could see the faces of the actors very well. The auditorium contains Spanish-style detailing, a large balcony, and an expansive vaulted ceiling. The auditorium's interior features murals by Willy Pogany as well as several box seats. It was a nice cozy place to see a Broadway show. read more

First of all, wow. This may very well be my favorite theater. The best thing is that there are no blind spots. We got super lucky with our seats as they were on the aisle so it was easy to get in and out if you needed to go to the bathroom or get a snack. There were even a couple people selling water and snacks so you didn't have to leave your seat. The ushers were all so nice considering they were sacrificing the first of the year to what looked like a sold out show. Big shout out to the guy who told us to walk through the aisles on our way out so we were able to exit faster. You the real mvp. The show itself was amazing. I was very impressed by the stage design. They had a car drive in and back numerous times. There was even a rain effect. Don't even get me started on how real the fire looked. read more

The theater is gorgeous, the stage is massive, and the sound system is concert quality. The performance was throughly enjoyed. This review is for the outsiders, the current production at the Bernard Jacob's Theater. The outsiders on Broadway has gained recognition and amassed a large following in the year following their Tony win. I arrived at the theater on a two show day and was 22nd on line. The first person arrived at around 6 AM to buy rush tickets. Unfortunately, by the time I arrived at the box office, they ran out of rush seats. Fortunately, they still had standing room tickets for $45. IMO, this show was worth it! Despite having to stand for 2.5 hours, I had such a good time crying and laughing. The score was fantastic and the stage door experience was delightful. The cast members were so friendly and open to taking pictures with fans. read more

As many people have mentioned in previous reviews, the staff of this theater need a serious reeducation in how to not be a prick to paying customers. I don't have specific names because the experience was so chaotic and crowded I could not tell you so don't ask me to email a more detailed review about them. This is already probably too detailed I don't think it matters anyway--most if not all of the staff are just incredibly unpleasant and unhelpful. I went to see the Outsiders. I have no complaints about the show itself. It was very well done and the set was very impressive and creative in my opinion. What I will say is I have never been treated so badly in a theater, and I have literally never left a negative review before. I'm not that kind of person. I'm 21 for fucks sake. That being said, this shit is ridiculous. I understand being harsh on enforcing theater etiquette (ie. no phone usage during the show, no getting up and going back to your seat in the middle of a scene) but my experience was during intermission. For starters, we were ushered in like we were doing a fire drill. Keeping things quick and efficient and barking orders are not the same. One of the guys scanning tickets quite literally yanked a woman by the shoulders out of the line because she ended up in the middle of another group, which did not seem like a problem for them and could have easily been resolved by asking her to step aside. Putting your hands on someone who is simply waiting in a very confusing and disorganized line is completely uncalled for. I don't care if she cuts in front of everyone, why is your first reponse manhandling her? Then you walk inside and are immediately greeted by someone barking at you to keep moving and walk faster before you can really figure out where you're supposed to move to. Right off the bat, very disorienting and jarring. The usher who showed us to our seats was probably the only helpful employee I interacted with. During intermission, the chaos was probably tenfold. I was flat out ignored or turned away by four staff members for asking where the nearest exit was. One of them literally rolled her eyes and walked away before I was even done talking. After getting turned around and yelled at by an angry bartender who thought I was trying to cut in line for the bar (I was walking on the side in the opposite direction like everyone else who needed to cross, there's just NO FUCKING ROOM and no other way for me to get across), I decided to just try the exits that were lining each side of the theater. Keep in mind these doors are not blocked off or indicated as off-limits in any way. There were about three or four on each side. This is apparently the worst thing I could do, as a female staff member came out of nowhere and berated me for it. I apologized and tried to ask where the exit was one more time, only for her to turn around and walk away. When I finally did find the exit, it was time to go back to my seat. Instead of simply being pointed in the direction of the exit, I ran around like a headless chicken for the entire intermission because every employee I encountered decided I wasn't worth their time. All in all, their attitude towards patrons is flippant and annoyed. I get that New Yorkers are typically very blunt and value efficiency, but not a single business or employee has made me feel like I was intruding or inconveniencing them just for asking where the exit was. I will not be sending an email or corresponding with management about this, because according to some of these reviews they aren't any better and again, I don't have specific staff member names and I wouldn't want to give them over even if I did because this is a widespread issue. While not every employee was rude to me specifically, none of them were approachable or pleasant. I'm writing this to tell you if you value good customer service and pleasant, helpful employees, this theater is not for you. I can't imagine having to navigate this hellhole with a disability or needing some kind of accessibility or accommodation because they don't even wanna point in the direction of an exit much less clear a path. It's a beautiful theater despite being cramped and I really wish you guys would listen to the people telling you to do better. Firing select staff won't fix this issue--these people literally need to be taught human decency. It's a theater, not a jailhouse. Do your job and stop treating paying customers like they took a shit in your car when they ask for help. read more

The Outlaws was mind blowing--highly recommend! Incredible talent, soul stirring music, meaningful plot and lyrics. You will be blown away by the sheer force of emotions that you will experience. I was touched to the depths of my soul. Mezzanine is the most optimal location for watching The Outsiders, as a lot of props and stage are used, so if you're in orchestra, you'll be straining your neck to see some parts. Grab a coat, as the theater will get cold during second act. The show lasts two hours plus a 15 minute intermission. read more

I had great seats fourth row, and definitely try to get the end seat. Was a small house in the back. They had a small bar and one little table where they sold merchandise. I saw Parade here last night. First off... the show was FABULOUS! OMG I can't put into words what an incredible piece of art I witnessed last night. I am so happy I got to see this limited engagement on Broadway. The theater itself is a smaller house, which gives the experience an intimate feel. All the ushers and front of house staff were friendly and helpful when getting everyone in and seated. I didn't even have to wait in line going through security, even though it was a sold out show! My one negative was the bathrooms are small and the seats are also very tight, which is unfortunately the norm in most Broadway houses. The AC was also blasting, so bring a sweater if you are coming here in the summer! I had the most amazing night at the theater last night and appreciate the staff for making us feel comfortable and safe! Also, shoutout to the audience members. One of my favorite venues! Seating and amenities are easily accessible for seniors. The aisles are all very tight, so patrons need to be mindful to stay to one side to reduce congestion throughout - merchandise sales, restrooms, etc. The ushers are more curt than usual with those who fail to comply, but that's fine by me. read more

I'm giving 5 stars for The Outsiders. First let me talk about the rush. You have to get up extremely early if you want a ticket to the hottest show in town. My mom and I rushed the Sunday Matinee and got there at 8:30 and were still fourth in line. We did the regular rush tickets which were $45 a piece, but there were $30 for 30 - which are tickets for people 30 and under. The view of rush tickets does cut off some of the stage, but honestly it wasn't too bad for the price. This show is amazing. The cast all have phenomenal voices. The stage was cool. Thank God I don't have childbearing hips. The seats here are very narrow. I'm also glad the seat next to me was empty or else I would have been crammed shoulder to shoulder with my seat mates. I watched in fascination as a big dude a few rows in front of me gathered himself and his coat together in order to squeeze into his seat like reverse Jenga. The staff is good about warning people to turn off their phones. I love my phone too, I'm writing this review on it, but when you can't sit still and be inside your own head for 5 mins. without compulsively pulling out your phone... admit that you have a problem. I was seated in Orchestra Row L Seat 10. $40 Rush tickets FTW! There were A LOT of empty seats to my right. I guess those seat filling companies aren't doing well because this was a big name show. Well, Charlie Cox will always be a big deal to me. Speaking of Charlie Cox, the stage door set up and managing was some of the best I've ever seen. I wasn't anywhere near the front but this woman with long arms sent up my playbills for Mr. Cox to sign. He signed them both, including my 3 year old Incognito playbill (I reviewed that show too. Charlie Cox always breaks my heart). But the most impressive stage door performance was from Tom Hiddleston. He signed everything. The woman who prepped the line before they came out warned that there would be no selfies... Hiddleston made her into a liar and took every single selfie. Every. Single. One. Hiddleston was the MVP of the stage door. Other than the width of the seats, it's a comfortable theater with great sight lines, great sound, and a well run stage door. read more

This is an update for T Coil. The t coil loop in this theater doesn't work well. From my seat I had to hold my head in a certain position to stay connected and slump down in my seat. I was able to still hear but the individual devices for t coil the other theaters have like the Lycum and the Schoenfeld are better. Please get these machines at this location. read more

Came here to see Almost Famous and can say that there was a plethora of friendly staff and it was an intimate feeling theater where it seemed like there wasn't a bad seat in the house. I think every woman in the theater got up to go to the bathroom at intermission and the line went all the way up the stairs and snaked into the theater, yet they were so efficient at managing the line that everyone got through it before intermission was over. We saw "Company" (fantastic show!!) here and I was impressed with the staff. Yes, the seating is tight which is common but the staff is spectacular! During our 15 minute intermission, most of the ladies headed to the restroom which is down a couple flights of stairs. The staff was immediately in position to organize the lines going up and down and did it with precision and a smile. I've never experienced anything like it! Because of their calm demeanor and organizational skills everyone was back in their seats, comfortable and content, by the end of intermission. BRAVO!! read more

When we sat in the wrong seats, they forced us out of them and separated our group across the theatre. And they made sure to be as rude as possible in every second they interacted with us. read more

Caught the Outsiders and BBJ. It's cozier than other Broadway theaters, which is perfect. Great sight lines staggered seating. The pit is unseen - they flashed a large screen showing them playing presumably under the stage. Short lines outside if you try the side closer to 8th ave. I've been to the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre three times - Once, Betrayal, and Company. All three times, I was in the orchestra - twice in the front row and once in row L. I'm a pretty shirt gal, so I had no trouble with the seats. My husband is 5'11, and he fit in the orchestra seats. Bathrooms are downstairs in the basement, so if you're in the Mezzanine, it might be a bit of a trek. But being in the orchestra meant I didn't have any trouble at all. Staff here are SUPER nice and really helpful. Since Company does not have a Yelp page, I'll just plug it here. It is HILARIOUS. I was crying from laughter during the show. It's absolutely amazing. I was not expecting it, but it is one of the best shows I've seen this year (and I've seen 9 of them). Patti Lupone was out due to Covid, but her replacement was great. I was expecting some overly big space like the Kennedy Center in DC of which I'm more familiar but was pleasantly surprised by how small it was. There didn't appear to be any bad seats in the house. They were physical pushing and arguing with children about seating instead of properly handling the situation and doing their job. One top of that they made another one cry. Absolutely do not bring your children or teenagers here. They were so disrespectful and not helpful at all. Other than that the show was absolutely amazing. The security personnel at this theater are rough & aggressive like nothing I've ever seen before while attending a Broadway show. At other theaters they are calmer & just do their job. Not here. Be aware of this before you go. The Outsiders is spectacular. I got to meet one of the actors Dan Berry who is absolutely charming!! All the actors are amazing!!
