A favorite venue. Decent pizza and drink options, small enough to not feel crowded. Sound can be a bit muddy if the performers are over-amplified and the seats in the balcony are about the same size as the economy section of Spirit Airlines but other than that, it's a repeat performance!

Come here for comedy shows. Very cool venue. They have a couple different bar / drink areas.. along with pizza. Parking is street, though they have a lot a few blocks away. Everyone is helpful. Bathrooms are upstairs.

The Aladdin is a decent venue in Portland. I hadn't been here in a long time and made the trek to see the Dinosaur Improv group. Our seats were pretty good. It is small space so it is nice to not sit so far away and be able to make out everyone's faces! Drinks/snacks are served at the Aladdin and there are a couple of places to eat nearby. Parking is a little difficult, best to come early. I would come here again for an event.

Cool venue. Been here for Hawaiian concerts as well as a comedy show. Food is available at the bar next door that's connected to the venue as well as in the lobby. Pizza, beer, snacks, no popcorn sadly. Buy your tix at the box office to save a ticket fee

The Aladdin is a bit dated in appearance, both interior and exterior. Its flimsy folding chairs are lumpy, uncomfortable, and not particularly clean. Same can be said of the floors. It's also narrow and claustrophobic; at a sold out show, it gives off the vibe of one of those clubs where people die in a pyrotechnics mishap because of the human stampede getting wedged in a tiny doorway. On the plus side, the food and drink options at the bar just outside the theater are reasonably cheap, if limited, by event venue standards, anyway. For beverages, mostly beer and cider: no cocktails or hard liquors in sight. Snackables include pizza, chips, hummus, and a small selection of sandwiches and the like. The staff seem competent enough to keep the lines moving, and to serve the swelling crowds efficiently. Really though, most small theaters like this are merely vehicles for the entertainment: little more than a place to park your rumpus for a concert or comedy show. By that metric, the Aladdin provides exactly that, a seat, and little more.

One of my favorite smaller PDX venues, both for its intimacy and its charming retro vibe. The sound ain't too bad either, and they book some damn fine acts, both local and national. The Lamp bar downstairs is decent enough (if overpriced) plus they have screens that stream the live show happening in the theater - in case you need to take a break, grab some water or whatever. Two levels and lots of stairs here though - you've been warned.

First time here and absolutely love it! The food is super fast and yummy. I'm here watching This Will Destroy You with Christopher Tignor and my mind is blown!

Been in Portland almost two years and this was my first visit to Aladdin Theater. I saw John Hiatt and it was, in every way spectacular! Lines around the building!! Okay maybe downstairs coulda sung, but what can you do. Food was plentiful and fairly priced, as were beverages! Big selection in the bar proper. They had two separate rooms set up with concession kinda stuff and the lines moved quickly and staff was super friendly and professional. Really great venue. Clean and cute and simply an old movie theater I assume. Just happens I'm one of those what gets VERY turned around VERY easily. My new friend on staff, Paul, let me 1.) chatter away, and also 2.) kindly pointed me in the correct direction ;) ‍ I was unaccompanied and his 100% situational awareness as we filed out en masse and easy demeanor really helped me enjoy my Big Night Out. Yay, Paul, and yay Mark and the Aladdin and John Hiatt :) 10/10 ~M I almost forgot! I'd purchased a beautiful concert poster for $30 and lost it within the hour and I mentioned it to Paul after the show and he KNEW what I was talking about and retrieved it from the bar guys who'd kept it safe... just a really special night for someone who stays home too damn much, haha.

Serioulsy one of my new fave venues. For my fellow fattys the seats ARE NOT fat friendly BUT if you can sit in them they are more comfy than the Roseland seats in the balcony. Noone actually sat in thier seats they were just there to hold stuff. Only venue i been to so far you can take your alcohol on the floor and you can bring your food as well. The staff handled the protest situation properly and it was resolved before the show ended so patrons felt safe. Big ups to Matisyahu for comming and continuing to spread his message of love and peace! Cant wait to see you agai

This is a nice intimate theatre located in the Brooklyn area of Portland. I saw Joshua Radin here. Good acoustics, good volume. Plenty of comfortable seating. The balcony was closed off - would have been nice views from up there. Bathrooms are upstairs. Some lines during intermission, but no terrible. There are 2 areas to get drinks. And you can bring drinks into the theater area. There is a long bar when you enter, but also a side eating area with a bar. Most beers were Double Mountain brewing - they had a good Oktoberfest right now. Pint of beer was $8. Easy getting in the door - quick ticket scan. Parking was easier than expected. No parking lot. Great BBQ place across the treat that was quick eats. I would definitely go back for another show here.

I want to say two stars but I wanna be nice. Let's start off with the good: Upon entering there were a couple of nice girls who checked my bag for safety reasons. I totally agree with bag check and I love that they did a thorough job! My seat was on the balcony and it was right under a vent and I couldn't stop coughing. I asked my bf to buy me a drink at the bar and they said they don't offer water and that you had to go to another bar in that same building to get it, but it was our first time here and it was crowded so we just ordered a soda. Soda didn't work so I thought about using a mask but I forgot one so I asked one of the bartenders and they gave me one for free and it was a KN95, wow!! Once I went back to my seat with my mask on I finally stopped coughing. Okay now onto why this place is 3/5 stars: Parking? Horrible. We got there 1.5hours early to possibly be lucky enough to find street parking but there were none. We saw a suggestion to park your vehicle at one of the smart garages and take a max to the theater which we did, but on the way back we took an uber. The seats were gross. It looked like it's been through more than you can imagine. It's way over due for a renovation. After reading many reviews I brought a jacket to place on the seat so that I dont have to actually touch it. I wouldn't want to come here again because how gross it is. The workers here are super cool and nice, it's just the theater that's the problem.

Fo they have a metal detector at the door? Pat downs ? Purse/bag search ? Coat check ? I cannot find any info on the website. Im seeing Matisyahu 2/26 if that helps.

No coat check, but they will have walk through metal detectors and a thorough bag search as well as extra security staff.

Does anyone know if this venue has air conditioning ? It's gonna be sooo hot for Thursday's upcoming show Blind Pilot.

Yes, It was so cold for the Shook Twins that we almost left , so I recommend wearing long sleeves.

What was obviously once a country western venue, has turned eclectic, and Portland quality weird. It's old, it's worn, it's beautiful. The sound is excellent, distinct sounds from each instrument even above 90 dB so super props to the sound guy! I thought the menu was great and an exceptional value for a music venue with salty nibbles, and locally made red hot sausages, Also really delicious. Everybody there was super nice, the bartender was quick, efficient and knowledgeable. Dancing seems to be the priority here. Some would say that The Showdown is a proper honky tonk, but it seems to be a bit more upscale than that description would imply. On my visit, one of the televisions was showing "Star Trek: The Next Generation", which was a fun surprise. Food is available at very reasonable prices. The menu is very small, and the food is nothing spectacular, but it is better than expected. Despite what Google Maps says, parking around here is TERRIBLE. It is all street parking, and not much in close proximity. Staff is FANTASTIC!!! Very friendly, very helpful, very professional. Service is prompt, and there is a fair number of non-alcoholic options. Tuesday nights feature a drop-in two-step dance class if you're interested. The instructors were top-notch, friendly, and great at what they did. There were probably 20 people in the class when I went, and the periphery seating gave me a great vantage point of the instructors and students (I couldn't wrap my head around it, but all participants seemed to be having a great time). The PA system sounded great, and the volume levels were very appropriate for the size of the room (it is nice not to have been deafened by needlessly loud music). The band was the true highlight of the night. They were awesome.

It was a Sunday and Van Nien Cafe closes down at 4pm (hours 10 - 4pm) so I planned to save the entree for my late dinner after the concert, because I did not feel hungry before going to the event. The security rejected me, telling me that 'outside food could not be brought in, you can either discard it or finish it outside' (it was not listed on your policy, and I am not the type of person that would bring outside entree to eat in a music venue). Not wanting to waste the food, I was forced to eat the entree on the street while I was not hungry. There are some young people among the clientele, but the majority are in their 40s and up, including many way past 40. From that demographic, you might think this is a quiet, sedate kind of crowd. You would be wrong. You'll see plenty of outlandish attire, tattoos and behaviors from the oldsters here. It's a hippie place, many of the regulars seem like refugees from the '60s, even those too young to have been around then. The music often reinforces the '60s vibe -- lots of folk-rock somewhat reminiscent of the Dead. But excellent! I am not a Deadhead but do appreciate much of the music here. Many of the regular musicians know each other and sit in with one another.
