On our way to Voodoo, my sister and I passed by the Paris Theatre and saw that they were hosting the "unofficial" after-party for G Jones. We had just seen G Jones perform at the Roseland Theater, so we thought, "Sure, why not?" Plus, concert goers were able to get in to the after-party for free if they showed their stamps from the Roseland Theater. Not only did we get in for free, but the bouncer let my sister bring in her donut from Voodoo! #nofucksgiven. The layout of the Paris Theatre was interesting. The main room had 3 levels. The bar was on the top platform. Then there was a lower platform kind of like a balcony that overlooked the bottom floor. I didn't particularly have a great time at the Paris Theatre. First of all, the place was a total dump. The women's restroom was tiny with only 2 stalls that were wrecked. Secondly, the person in charge with the visual effects needs to get fired. The lighting and animated background behind the DJ sucked. I couldn't get past the creepy dancing tron robots that were playing on repeat. Sometimes they didn't go in line with the beat drops. Lastly, the sound at the Paris Theatre was distorted because of the heavy ass subs. The only thing I did like from the whole experience was the DJ. No idea who he was, but he was a house/trap DJ. I liked that he was super into his own set, so he was up there dancing along with the music and hyping up the crowd.

Wow. After 10+years the Paris returns as a music venue!! This time complete with a FULL bar. Took me back to my youth. I played that venue 100x with at least 4 of my projects over the span of ten years. Only thing missing was LARRY

Getting here is a struggle. It's located next to Voodoo Doughnut which, as you can imagine, is it complete and utter shitshow with tourists. Where there are tourists there are Street kids asking for money from the tourists. So, the trip to get into the building is rather unpleasant. The remodel is pretty amazing with one exception. What in the hell were they thinking with the floor. This is an old movie theater so it has a sloping floor. Instead of bringing the floor up and level they added a crazy amount of stairs with flat sitting areas but it reduces the space drastically. Their tables and chairs are gorgeous however very uncomfortable to sit in for more than 5 minutes. This leaves everyone standing around on a floor that is still slopes. The lighting and sound system seem really great. I don't drink so I can't help you there but I have not heard any complaints about their drinks.

That's the bartender. Never then treated horribly.

This woman pictured below provided some of the worst services I have ever received in my 23 years of life. I ordered a Moscow Mule while with my date. It is one of the easiest drinks to make and is provided by nearly all of the places that provide alcoholic drinks in Portland. The drinks provided were NOTHING like a Moscow Mule or even an alcoholic drink at all. They contained literally NO alcohol and were on the worse end in terms of flavor. I did not complain and I simply ordered another drink, thinking that this was a fluke. When I ordered the other drinks, I found them to not contain any liquor as well. I said something to this lovely bartender and the response I received was a bit shocking: "You should have tipped more, maybe then you would've gotten a better drink." I found this to be absurd and it upset me a little, nonetheless, I decided to provide her with a very generous tip of $15 (mind you that my drinks totaled $12). I then asked her to give me another two drinks and let her know that I did tip her a bit better this time and received an even WORSE two (different) drinks than before. I spent nearly $50 total on drinks alone and another $30 on the tip. When I brought this to her attention she just waved her paws at me and shooed me away. If you see this woman or want to go to this establishment, I suggest you stay away. All of the bartenders were unprofessional and the event was very unorganized, but if you want to get ripped off, please be my guest and attend the next show at the Parris Theatre. I usually tend to leave unbiased reviews and keep the business in mind while writing these reviews, but this establishment deserves every negative review it gets and more. I would rate this place 0 out of 5 if I could. You have been warned. To the person reading this information: have a very pleasant day!

    Fun place and sexy people

My first time here as I was invited by fiends and I say the cover charge and the use of the smoke machines was a bit much; however I did have a great time, the people are sexy and friendly. This place and music is not for everyone and I would go back but only when I know my friends are going.

I traveled the world with a bar band, and I have performed in venues, big and small. So when I say…read morethat this is one of my favorite venues of all time, I'm comparing it to a lot of places! The showdown is a beautiful piece of Portland history. What was obviously once a country western venue, has turned eclectic, and Portland quality weird. It's old, it's worn, it's beautiful. The sound is excellent, distinct sounds from each instrument even above 90 dB so super props to the sound guy! I thought the menu was great and an exceptional value for a music venue with salty nibbles, and locally made red hot sausages, Also really delicious. Everybody there was super nice, the bartender was quick, efficient and knowledgeable. The seating is not the most comfortable in the world, but I sat there for four hours and barely moved because it was just that much fun. Can't wait to go back and see the next band I can't stop listening to.

Dancing seems to be the priority here. Some would say that The Showdown is a proper honky tonk, but it seems to be a bit more upscale than that description would imply. On my visit, one of the televisions was showing "Star Trek: The Next Generation", which was a fun surprise. Food is available at very reasonable prices. The menu is very small, and the food is nothing spectacular, but it is better than expected. Despite what Google Maps says, parking around here is TERRIBLE. It is all street parking, and not much in close proximity. Staff is FANTASTIC!!! Very friendly, very helpful, very professional. Service is prompt, and there is a fair number of non-alcoholic options. Tuesday nights feature a drop-in two-step dance class if you're interested. The instructors were top-notch, friendly, and great at what they did. There were probably 20 people in the class when I went, and the periphery seating gave me a great vantage point of the instructors and students (I couldn't wrap my head around it, but all participants seemed to be having a great time). The PA system sounded great, and the volume levels were very appropriate for the size of the room (it is nice not to have been deafened by needlessly loud music). The band was the true highlight of the night. They were awesome.

I traveled from Seattle to Portland by train and bus on a day trip, in order to attend the Cultura event on May 10, 2026. I bought a to-go vermicelli entree at Van Nien Temple ( https://vannienvegan.com/ ) earlier in the day. It was a Sunday and Van Nien Cafe closes down at 4pm (hours 10 - 4pm) so I planned to save the entree for my late dinner after the concert, because I did not feel hungry before going to the event. The security rejected me, telling me that 'outside food could not be brought in, you can either discard it or finish it outside' (it was not listed on your policy, and I am not the type of person that would bring outside entree to eat in a music venue). Not wanting to waste the food, I was forced to eat the entree on the street while I was not hungry. I personally feel it is quite insulting, and the venue and their security staff could have done a better job to accommodate event goers who don't have a vehicle to store the food.

(I've only come back for my favorite bands) The layout of the main performance area is honestly baffling. The floor is completely flat and the stage is barely elevated, so unless you're tall or fighting your way to the very front, you're not actually seeing the show--you're just listening to it in a crowded room. At my first concert here, I genuinely couldn't even locate the stage from where I was standing. Then there's the temperature. At a recent show, the AC was kicked on a few songs in and was blasting so aggressively it felt like standing in front of an open freezer door--or just fully being outside in the 40° weather. People's hair was literally blowing around, and a good chunk of the crowd had to put their jackets back on... indoors. Not exactly the vibe. And the bar situation? Rough. Only serving their own beer might make sense at a brewery, but this is a music venue. Having any alternative--Rainier, PBR, literally anything--would be an improvement. Instead, you're stuck with their terrible, terrible beer (for context--I am a professional beer brewer of +10 years). I want to like this place because the building itself is iconic, but between the terrible sightlines, the chaotic climate control, and the lack of drink options, it's hard to justify coming back I'd recommend opting for another venue in town to see your favorite bands.

The opening band was a Depeche Mode cover band called Hiding from Love (lots of "love" in the air tonight). My daughter has been on restriction, but we took a break from it as tribute bands are my guilty pleasure. I used it as an excuse to dive deeper into both bands beforehand. I know most of the hits although not always by name. My daughter and Sarah went up front to dance at the show and we had fun. Something interesting i found out was that Personal Jesus by Depeche is not even in their top 2 songs on Spotify currently. The other two songs are hits that i've heard, and i understand Depeche Mode is not a one hit wonder, but i was shocked to find out their song Enjoy the Silence has twice as many plays as Personal Jesus. Personal Jesus in my experience has always been the stand out hit, even at the show the crowd loved that one the most. Also Personal Jesus was released first as b-side in 1989, and was later released on a studio album the following year. The other big hits on the studio album (Enjoy the Silence, Policy of Truth, and World in my Eyes) although very 80's sounding, were released in 1990, which i had forgotten. Weird, i think of them as 80's songs. Not only that, but Depeche Mode, I learned very recently, has multiple other great songs that sound like they are from the 80's but were released years or decades after the 80's ended. Last note: They have an album (at least on streaming and it's listed as a "single" even though the collection is 3 hours long) of remixes called Violator: The 12 Inch Singles, and although i generally dislike remixes there are quite a few good ones on there. Many of them could fit well in a movie score.
