I wanted to make sure I followed up because I know my review will mean something for this business. I brought my classic Toyota Land Cruiser to Nayarit Transmission in East Oakland for a transmission fluid change. From the start, I felt at ease. Yes, there's a security dog on-site, but the way the owner treats him says everything!he's clearly part of the family, not just for show. As someone who loves dogs, I really respected that. The owner walked me through the whole process, explained why a higher-quality filter gasket was worth it (and he was right the one I had wasn't great), and even saved the old fluid to show the work was done right. He got the job done faster than I expected and at a more-than-fair price. This shop is built on honesty, hard work, and family values. In today's world, that's rare. I highly recommend Nayarit Transmission if you want quality work and someone you can truly trust with your car.

I brought my car in due to an intermittent gear slipping issue, which I had already traced to a solenoid problem--a very common issue with my Pontiac G6. The symptoms only occurred twice, very briefly. My check engine light came on both times but turned off on its own. I was still able to drive the car on the freeway at full speed with no issues. The problem only showed up during city stop-and-go traffic. I specifically asked if they could just replace the solenoid, and was told no. Instead, I was told I "only had gears 1 and 2" and that I'd need a $4,800 transmission rebuild--which is objectively false, as I literally drove the car 70+ mph on the freeway both before and after leaving the shop. My engine light was off before coming to the shop, turned on once at the shop, then turned back off shortly after leaving. There is no way my car had only gears 1 & 2 I know what that feels like as it happened twice briefly. So to say this to me is insane. Mind you wouldn't have been able to go more than 25 with out the car struggling they must have assumed I don't know a thing about cars. Possibly because I'm a woman and I went alone. They also claimed the solenoid was too difficult to access without replacing the computer and warned me about my car's mileage, as if that meant it wasn't worth fixing. But then, on my way out, they admitted it's a "really great car" and "this is the only issue." It felt manipulative. I decided to trust my gut, went to a different shop, and had the solenoid replaced--and now my car runs perfectly fine. No rebuild needed. If I hadn't known what I was talking about, they would've gladly let me spend thousands on a completely unnecessary repair. Trust yourself. Do your research. Don't let fear-based upselling push you into something you don't need. Also from reading the reviews it sounds like the routinely tell their customers they need a rebuild and successfully do the rebuild. (more than likely something very easily replaceable) However a good transmission shop doesn't just rebuild, they properly and honestly diagnose and repair. He also tried selling me cars on the way out. Notice how he hasn't replied to this yelp review and also told me he feels bad for me in the text? Very unprofessional I don't need your pitty I needed honesty which I didn't get from this shop. He also told me don't buy a used car you can't guarantee you won't have problems it's best if you fix this one with us. Also told me not to go to another shop because id want a local shop lol

Chris received a $17,000 estimate from the dealer to replace the entire system, which was pretty shocking. Instead of stopping there, he went above and beyond to find a specialized vendor who could repair the system, saving me an enormous amount of money. He also handled all the coordination with the vendor and oversaw getting everything reinstalled and working properly, which made the whole process seamless on my end. Throughout it all, Chris kept me informed every step of the way. His communication and follow-through were excellent, and I always felt taken care of. This came after a disappointing experience with my previous mechanic of six years, who offered no real solutions and treated me poorly despite my loyalty. Needless to say, my loyalty has now shifted. So I went about searching for the best deal around (considering I didn't want to put in too much into a car that are in its last years). After an exhaustive search, you can trust me in saying you won't find better (mix of still high quality, but not premium high quality price cost to go with it) -- you ain't gonna beat his/their rate & quality at $120/hr. Brett is an earnest, eager guy who wants to do all he can to help you out. So I imagine the rest of his team/shop is reflective of that. He's on the younger side compared to other mechanics who run their own shop -- who end up really set in their ways and many have become complacent or too presumptive to be open to anything else or more. I brought in that used car to get a good look over and to confirm what the Pre-Purchase Inspection observed about it. He was able to confirm some things, and clear out some other concerns after taking a closer look at it. Most importantly; he was able to catch the things that he should've, and didn't fabricate more merely to pad on costs -- ultimately making/exampling him as trustworthy. He has since fixed/troubleshooted the car having trouble starting (he diagnosed/figured replacing/upgrading the spark plugs; which did the trick), replaced headlights, and simple oil change. In all, I saw that he properly charged the time appropriately with partial to his per/hour rate -- which, again, speaks to his integrity & trustworthiness (as many sleazy underhanded shops would charge a full hour's work even if it took a fraction of the time). He instilled confidence & faith so much that I brought my brand new 2026 SUV to him (which, I imagine, I would've brought to Precision Auto Care in San Leandro normally to do the high end care) to get the catalytic converter shield installed. His guy did a good job (at the very least I have no complaints, but I'm not so knowledgeable to know much more of a difference). My only qualm about it is I was quoted 2 hours of work, but I did end up having to hang around and wait for 3 hours. But, again to speak to impressive work ethic & integrity, was charged 2 hours. His place processes with impressive paperwork, listing every single aspect looked at and worked on, pricing, cost break down. What makes me a bit nervous is that when I sign for the estimate, it doesn't show cost on it; so if any disputes, any prearranged pricing/cost wouldn't be binding. If he gave less of a trustworthiness vibe, it would be best to insist it be on the estimate. But I get the feeling that I imagine if there was any dispute, Brett would do his absolute best and bend backwards to understand, accommodate, and make it right (even if it would go against established practices). Parking is very challenging. If you can't simply pull in, I suggest calling and talking to him to figure out how he wants it (it's what I've had to do each time). A few times, he would move his VW car from the street parking spot in front of his shop to place my car, others he had used the unused parking lot around the corner (which has since been fenced off; so that's a no-go any longer), and last time he moved a car at the front of the garage to have my SUV enter -- if you aren't confident or new to your car, I HIGHLY urge & suggest you simply have him bring it in; I know for sure I would damage my car (after I initially gave an attempt), while he successfully did it with confidence/experience. And when the car was done, they placed the car in the aforementioned unused parking lot (no-go anymore), or this last time around the corner down a whole block. I drive the 8 miles just to bring it to Brett and Car Care Service; because he offers the best quality service at the best rate around -- being eager to help, decent, high work ethic/trustworthiness, capable, and I know I don't have anything to worry about with him/them.

I made a call and the same repair that I was quoted as $480 at another local auto repair shop, Sebastian quoted me as about $250 dollars. And then the other repair of the right and left arms for some part of the engine that I was quoted as $1184 by the other Auto shop, Sebastian told me that it's normal wear and doesn't need to be repaired yet. Now it makes sense that the previous repair shop wanted to charge me $50 per bulb to put in when my bulbs went out on my car. So I went and got the bulbs myself at O'Reilly's and put them in myself the first time until I found out O'Reillys offers complementary bulb replacement. Between 1701 and O'Reillys, I think I may be able to survive and keep my car running. Grateful for honest affordable 1701 Auto Care! Thank you, Sebastian.

I love Alameda transmission the owner and his staff have always worked on all my vehicles from my charger to escalade and Malibu they have always provided me with the best pricing and quality work. Recently i had my engine rebuilt after a lifter failure and they had my truck ready to go in less than a week. Pure and sheer rip off. The receptionist/daughter has the worst attitude. Her little attempts at stare downs are amusing to an adult yet disgusting and unprofessional. Obviously her dad owning the shop is the only reason she is still there. Anyway, being charged an asinine amount for a service that is not even needed, is my definition of a rip off. read more

He even declined a tip, saying, "I've been here 28 years - I'm not going to change my honest ways now." They gave me a roadmap for future maintenance, the estimate matched the final invoice, and online booking was easy. I dropped off at 10am, and it was done by noon - much faster than expected. The staff was friendly, they welcomed my two trained dogs, and my car is running better than ever. I commuted from Oakland and it was absolutely worth it. I will definitely be back.
