I went into get an oil change and tire rotation. However, found something completely unexpected! The treads on my front tires were almost gone on the inside and the back tires had huge cracks. This is an honest review to help others who require auto repair. This was my experience at TL Auto... I walked in and asked for a quote for my WRX, a clutch and hydraulic replacement, and was given an estimate of over $6,000! After doing some research and checking with local Subaru specialists such as PM Autoworks, I found that TL's pricing was nearly double the market rate for both parts and labor. Unfortunately, TL Auto quoted $4,242.99 just for the clutch replacement, WITHOUT a flywheel resurface or a flywheel. PM Autoworks quoted $2,058.09 for the same job WITH an OEM flywheel. In my case, TL Auto is applying HUGE markups on basic OEM hardware. For example, TL auto charges $942.87 JUST for a "Genuine" clutch flywheel, AND $948.94 for a clutch kit, which comes out to $1,891.81 for BOTH. Fortunately, PM Autoworks charges $921.68 for BOTH the OEM clutch and OEM flywheel, and other parts that make up a clutch kit are also included in the price. TL quoted over $1,700 for the replacement of the master/slave cylinders. I was able to source the high-quality Japanese OEM parts (Seiken/Nabtesco) from PartsGeek for $280.10, and PM Autoworks charges 2 hours of labor (inquired after the quote) instead of the 4+ hours implied by TL's quote. By going to PM Autoworks instead of TL Auto, I am saving an HONEST $4,000 for the same work!! In my case, the price difference isn't just a few hundred dollars--it's thousands! If you work hard for your money, I strongly recommend that anyone, especially Subaru owners, AVOID the "general repair" markups at TL Auto. (See attached photos for proof of the price gap.) *** UPDATE*** Just got the work done (and then some) on my WRX by PM Auto. For all the work performed, the total was UNDER $3k! (Invoice in picture). It only took them 6 hours--straight up skills. TL Auto claims their pricing "reflects the quality of parts we use and the confidence we have in the work performed." That's fine, but high quality shouldn't be an excuse to charge an absurd markup for "exceptional service." They also claim their pricing includes complimentary rideshare and free loaner vehicles, yet a friend of mine who had work done there was never offered those services. Let's get one thing straight, PartsGeek is one of the BEST places to get OEM parts at a respectable price. Just because they are a "discount website" doesn't mean they aren't an equivalent comparison. They sell the exact same parts without the massive markup. Some businesses, like TL Auto, clearly don't like it when customers do their research and shop smart. Even more telling: TL Auto failed to admit they overcharged on their estimate for the SAME OEM parts that PM Auto sourced directly from the dealership. I'm sharing this to be transparent about my experience. I don't want others to be robbed by shops like this. Wow where to begin...... one of the employees Manny. Will just argue with you. Won't let you contact the owner, he's the representative.... And a poor one IMO. The level of professionalism and customer service is diabolical. My car is over 200k Miles. It's a beast. And I guarantee needs tons of work. Today I needed a new radiator and hoses because they said I had a leak. Was told Friday it should be ready, Monday to be safe. Well after Manny avoiding my phone calls and failing to call me back. My car isn't ready and won't be ready until Tuesday. After another day of avoiding my calls. I called the shop from a different phone number. Phone was answered immediately. Manny said it was just a coincidences. Well shocker, my car isn't ready! Manny said my car just needed one thing done and had to be test drove. It will be ready before 10am on Wednesday. Well it's 11am on Wednesday. Test drive should be done.... Well no phone call nothing. I call the store and no answer..... but shocked I get a call back. Saying manny isn't here. He will have to call you back. So I'm over the lies. I go to the shop. Where manny is on lunch. When he comes back he says they still needed a part. And they're giving me a part for feee I should be grateful. So they fucked me around but I should be thanking him. Lol. I'll follow up if I EVER get my car back. Regardless AVOID! They charge a little extra. But I have tons of miles on my car so I figured the customer service and professionalism would match the higher price. Nope! Find a better local shop! UPDATE! TL Auto Repair performed an oil change on my Jaguar F-Type. I was nervous at first, because I only took my car to a mechanic who specialized in British-European autos--but he has since retired. Therefore, I had to find another shop. I called around and was impressed with TL, because when I asked what kind of oil and brand they would use on my car, they had the right answer. They also had to order a special filter which I appreciated; they did not rely on simply using generic parts for my baby. I was able to get an appointment very quickly, and the car was completed in a few hours. They noticed that the rear brake pads were pretty worn down and offered to repair them before I picked up my car. (My former mechanic had previously warned me about the pads getting low, so I knew TL was on the up-and-up.) They had the breakdown of the problem, what they would do to replace and install the pads, and the full price. I opted not to have them repair the brake pads at that time, but I know I have to get them done soon! I LOVED the step-by-step instructional video on what to do when you arrived at TL. I knew exactly where to park my car and in which door to enter the establishment. SO HELPFUL! It is often confusing when you arrive at a busy auto repair shop, because oftentimes, you don't quite know where to park until someone comes out and guides you. Such a nice, thoughtful touch. My only quibble with TL is that when my husband and I entered the office after following the instructions, there was no one there to immediately assist us, and no bell or indication of how to get help. We weren't sure if anyone was aware of our arrival, and we waited several minutes before someone came in. A simple improvement would be to add clear signage letting customers know that someone will be with them shortly, so they don't feel unsure about whether to wait or return to the car drop-off area. Overall, friendly, communicative folks and a VERY positive experience. read more

I'm very disappointed with my experience here. I brought my car in because my AC was not blowing cold air. After checking the car, the shop initially told me the repair would cost $517, and because they gave me this estimate upfront, I agreed to pay. Later they called and said my car was ready, but then informed me they couldn't fix the issue because the AC problem is covered under my Honda warranty and that I would need to go to the Honda dealership instead. They explained that they charged me $290 for the diagnostic because they found there was a leak, and told me it would be better to go to the dealership so I could spend less money under warranty. While I understand that diagnosing a problem takes time, this is something that should have been explained more clearly before charging such a large diagnostic fee, especially after I had already agreed to pay for the repair. Now I still have to go to the dealership, where they will likely perform their own diagnostic again, which means the time and money I spent here may have been wasted. To be fair, the owener was polite and professional when speaking with me. However, it is frustrating to pay nearly $300 without getting the car fixed, and still have to start the process again somewhere else. I hope the management reviews this situation and considers making this right, because this experience left me feeling like I paid a lot of money without receiving a real solution. read more

Good customer service here. I made an appointment online but there were people there before me, however I was taken care of as soon as possible. They offer many services like oil change, transmission fluid exchange, and your standard maintenance. I was sent messages in between via link that showed when my car was being serviced. The link provided pictures and descriptions of anything that needed immediate attention. Note: they don't upsell you or scam you, as other reviews try to claim including those who came here the past few years, they EDUCATE and advise you. You're given the option to either accept or decline the job, so you don't have to accept it. The things they found on my car are concerning but I know it's all for my safety. I will definitely come back here for any of my car concerns, it's good to know there's trustworthy and reliable mechanics in Union City. read more

The person I talked with gave me different price to diagnose my car. He said he would inspect my car but it will cost $125 then when I came back he said it would costs $225 so I left and never came back. But luckily I found an excellent auto shop in Industrial Parkway he checked my car, eh checked under it and didnt even ask for any diagnostic fee. That is because the problem was visible. The guy in TL shop didnt even bother to check under it but told me that before he will diagnose it will cost two different price. I forgot the name of the guy in the office, maybe it was Ryan. I had to find out myself but when a Subaru (supposedly what they specialize in) battery terminal is loose it lights up all of your dashboard. I went in to ask how much for diagnoses. Guy says he has to diagnose each light individually. I.e electrical work, tire work, overheating engine work....... Like really; my car isn't even over heating. More than $3000 worth of work. Brought my truck in last week to get some adjustable lowering struts installed, to get my truck leveled with the rear. Installation was good, and the pricing was expected. Found out that when I got the truck back, it wasn't lowered to my expectations. More of a miscommunication on my part. Truck was leveled, 35" from ground to fender all the way around, but the fender gap was much bigger in the front (for some reason) giving the illusion that the rear was much lower even though the truck was evenly "leveled". So I wanted to bring it in to get it adjusted & lowered more in the front. They gave me a loaner car while repairs were being made. Brought it in in the morning, and picked it up right before closing. Truck looked perfect this time around! Expected to pay, but T&L told me not to pay a dime! If that's not exceptional customer service, I don't know what is! Since day one, I've always received great service & they've never let me down... which is why T&L is my go-to for any of my vehicles needs, and always will be! read more

TL responded quickly via my Yelp query. The high pressure power steering hose needed to be replaced due to leakage on a 2014 MDX. After multiple quotes, I decided to proceed with TL due to the length of warranty and price. They performed the task as requested. However, I knocked off a star because the task was completed longer than expected. The expectation was completion in a day. However, the car was not ready at the desired time. Conflicting schedules caused the pickup to be changed to the next day. Everything was performed as expected but it would have been nice to know that the task would be delayed. Brought my truck in because it was making a weird noise from the rear wheel. They test drove the truck, removed the wheel and checked everything out. Thankfully, they found nothing wrong. They only charged me $70 for the diagnostic fee, which is well worth the peace of mind to me. Coincidentally, the noise went away as well. I've been to shops in the past where I know they would have made something up and charged me for something crazy, so I really appreciate T&L being an honest shop. I've been going to this place since 2020 because it's close and convenient, but I'm honestly fed up with how consistently disappointing my experiences have been. My brakes were never fully fixed, no matter how many times I brought my car in. One time, the quote they gave me changed when I went to pay through the link they sent. I called to ask about it, and the front desk lady had no explanation, even though I knew the original price was lower. After a lot of back and forth, she finally corrected it--because I was confident in what I had seen. I returned after having my baby, wanting to avoid the hassle of finding a new shop far from home. But what do they do? They quoted me over $2,300 for repairs I didn't even need--fixing my transmission, front lower suspension control arm rearward, and a transmission filter service. All I wanted was my brakes fixed! When I went to another shop, they quoted me just $250, and even if I had parts ordered, the total would have only been around $400-$500. This place is nothing but upsells, poor transparency, and outrageous pricing. Based on their responses to bad reviews, it's clear they have no intention of taking accountability for their terrible service and their tendency to take advantage of people. We took our cars here for years when Chris owned the place. We still try to be loyal and bring our cars here, but it keeps getting worse and worse since the new owner took over a few years ago. There's always bogus 'fixes' that come up and there's always something. Chris used to be super honest and reasonable, that's why we took our car here. Now they charge extra for everything, even charged us for cleaning the engine to find a leak and drive around for a week. Then they checked it again, there's no leak! It's just sad that we have to find a new mechanic after taking our cars here for over 15 years. We can't even trust this shop anymore and prices are ridiculous, especially for this area. Plus when we took the car today after trying one more time, the receptionist is sick and coughing everywhere. She said they're short so she had to work. That's shady that she's greeting everyone and could get others sick. She should be able to call in sick. Needless to say when they tried to scam us again, we picked up the car and didn't have them do any work. We won't be going here anymore...this was the last chance after so many tries. read more

I have an older vehicle that needed a transmission fluid change. Based on location proximity and the positive reviews of this shop prior to the management change, I decided to give it a try. The job was performed competently and the car was released on the same day. A text messaging system kept me in informed of the progress. All was well until I saw the bill. I'll let the readers judge for themselves if the charges are reasonable. The item that jumped out as being obviously exorbitant was $50.38 for a cork gasket. This must break the world record for the highest price ever charged for a gasket, as it retails for around $7. I get that shops mark it up, but not by 700%. I called them asking if there might be a mistake, but they insisted that it's what their system came up with. Follow-up comment: The vehicle has a common Chrysler TorqueFlight A904 transmission widely used in Jeep vehicles through the 1990s. I went here last year for my Acura rsx. It was making noises when I turned the wheel due to my aftermarket suspension not being installed correctly, so I brought it to t&l to have them diagnose and fix the problem. They recommended that I change my control arms which I agreed because I didn't know the source of the noises were from my coilovers. They ended up not being able to swap the control arms due to the part they ordered not fitting. As a consolation they charged me to swap out the bushings instead. I came out of t&l with my car no longer making the noises it originally made when I brought it in because they tightened down the coilovers, but I feel that I was ripped off and upsold on parts and labor than was not necessary. They also charge diagnostic fees whereas some other local mechanics do not. I would recommend trying another mechanic before coming to t&l. read more
