I have a 2018 VW GTI that's out of warranty, and since I live in Alameda I wanted to find a reliable local shop instead of always going to the dealer and paying their markup. I needed new brake pads, rotors, and sensors. When I called on a Friday, I asked what make of parts they would use, and David told me ATE -- the same OEM supplier Volkswagen uses for brakes. That gave me extra confidence. He ordered the parts right away and had me bring the car in Monday. The parts ended up being delayed, so they had to keep my car overnight. As a first-time customer, that gave me pause, but they handled it well. David had my brakes done first thing Tuesday morning, gave me a discount for the inconvenience, and even showed me the old parts they removed (something the dealer never does). He also gave me helpful advice on maintaining the turbo system. The shop was friendly, straightforward, and the pricing was fair. What could have been a frustrating first experience turned into a positive one because they owned the delay, communicated clearly, and delivered good work. I went to Southshore in Alameda to help my wife prepare for the opening of her store. I unloaded my SUV and my daughter parked it. She came into the store and told me she parked in a very large space furthest away from Safeway. Drivers in that area have been known for being notorious for driving badly and are terrible at parking. After an hour or two I decided to get my hoodie. As I was walking towards my SUV and noticed that someone scraped the back door. I was not happy. I looked at my windshield to see if a note was left, nothing. The next day I went to Alameda Auto Care Center because they fixed my SUV about 2 years ago. I went inside to request a quote to fix the area that was damaged. I took Jerry to look at the damage. He surveyed the damage and told me it wasn't bad. He quoted me $65 to buff out the damaged area. We went inside to find the technician and gave him the key fob. He told me it would take 10-15 minutes to do the work. I sat inside and waited. Within 10 minutes the work was done. Jerry took me outside to look at the damaged area. Wow, all the damage was gone and it looked perfect. (Sorry didn't take a picture of the damaged area). Jerry gave me my key fob. I was ready to go inside to pay for the work. He told me not to worry about paying. I was shocked and asked him if he was sure. He said no need to pay because it did not take a lot of work to repair the damaged area. I told if anyone needs body work on their vehicle I will refer them to his business. I will always be a loyal customer! read more

Took my car in because the left turn signal was not working. The tail light had been replaced a few months prior. Guy opened the compartment in the trunk and said the bulb was missing. He replaced the bulb and said no charge. He refused to let me pay for the bulb itself. He also checked to make sure the tail lights on both sides were working. Excellent service. My car needed an oil change and I found this local place through a quick search. Needless to say, the service was amazing! How have I not discovered AACC before?! It's located right off of Park St so you can occupy yourself with the shops and restaurants nearby. I called for availability and my sister helped take my car in for the service the following day. Dropped off my car and even though they were very busy, they said they'd do the best to assess the issue and get me info and an estimate. The reviews are so polarizing and I hesitate to write a bad review for a local place. Hoping the owners can review and consider changes. Ever since moving from SF we have been looking for a reliable mechanic to maintain both our cars. Since COVID we really haven't put a lot of miles on them, but I figured I would take the Prius in since the tire pressure light was on and I could not remember the last time I had an oil change. Their instructions say to put keys in a service envelope and drop it off in the mail slot. No mention of filling it out, which would be helpful to add to the instructions. I followed instructions and was about to call the number when someone came out and proceeded to chew me out for a good five minutes about not filling out the envelope. I attempted to explain that I had just gotten there, this was my first time, that the directions were not clear, and every time he just cut me off and kept scolding me. I just gave up and asked what he wanted me to do (personal info, which is fine). This was all before he even looked at the car. I also tried to explain that we had bought the car used from the dealer a year ago and put less than 10k on it since, but he didn't listen to anything I said. I felt completely ignored and shut down at every turn. I was this close to just walking away but I don't want to drive a car with tire issues and I want to give the shop a second chance so I left my car there. I got a call that the car was ready, and called an Uber so I can go get the car. There are very few Ubers in COVID so I have to wait a while. I did not appreciate the passive aggressive impatient callback "are you coming in" 9 minutes after I told them I was coming. I have to see the car to rate their job, but I am likely not coming back as the service was intimidating and I'd prefer to not spend my money here. As a female and the person responsible for maintaining our vehicles, I am looking for a trustworthy mechanic whom I can be comfortable with, someone who will take the time to explain what needs to be done and not brush me off or ignore what I have to say. Was a customer of this place for numerous years, recommended to multiple friends/family, and brought all my cars here. One vehicle, he was unable to track down a misfire and in the end had to trade it in due to it not passing smog. A few months later I actually ended up finding the vehicle for sale and contacted the seller to find out what the fix was. Leak in first cylinder. David told me he did compression tests and was unable to figure this out. Another vehicle we had all hoses replaced as this was advised. A few months later the hose blew up and caused my car to have to be towed as it was "replaced" with the same OE part instead of the new upgraded hose that Toyota recommended due to this being an issue. I have yet to go back here and will take my vehicles elsewhere. read more

Was glad to see positive reviews for a mechanic that's walking distance from my place (hooray!) - so I gave them a call. As it is, the Alameda Auto team have a system worked out. David said to stop by with the car during the morning - no appointment needed - and fill out their check-in form. 30 mins after dropping off the car and the form, I received a call from David, letting me know an estimate and when the car would be ready. I dropped the car off at 8:30am and it was ready by 2pm. Better still, the estimate was very reasonable! No unexpected gotchas or upsells. Date: 9/26/2016 Time: 11:40 AM 76° Sunny My husband has been getting auto care services for our vehicle at this business for about four years. He was referred to them by one of our friendly neighbors back then. Last night we had the misfortune of damaging our vehicle while backing up in a dark driveway to head home. My husband clipped the neighbor's porch railing and knocked the left side mirror off kilter. Result: left side mirror was dangling. It had not fallen off, but a repair was necessary. Otherwise, if APD had seen the mirror dangling, I am quite sure they would have pulled us over, cited us and given us a fix-it ticket. Alameda Auto Care Center is about 2.5 miles from our home. My husband took the car in early this morning for them to assess the damage and to see if they can order the part to do the repair. Talk about quick, fast and a hurry. These guys are on their job. At about 11:25 AM, they called us up and said the replacement mirror had arrived, bring the car in and we will work on the repair. We dropped off the vehicle before noon. Thereafter, We caught the bus home and had to walk about four blocks to get home. Lo and behold, we were on our block (1/2 block to home) when my husband received a call from them that the left side mirror has been mounted on our vehicle. WOW!!! It took them less than two hours to do the repair. I am more than impressed as to how efficient and helpful the employees were. I concur with the reviews from other yelpers - outstanding friendly service and very efficient. It does not cease to amaze me that they have beaucoup customers getting their vehicles serviced here. I have an old truck that needed a lot of work and I could not believe what I was charged. I was expecting double the amount that I paid. A few months later, my check engine light went on. I dropped it off and there were a few lose parts. They secured them with clamps and the problem was fixed. I was in shock when David told me NO CHARGE for the work! David has even texted me a few times since I've brought my truck in to make sure everything was running smoothly. I did not think customer service like this existed!! I have a love-hate relationship with my 10 year old car. When it's good which is most of the time, it's so good that I want to keep my car forever. Hey, it only has 59,000 miles - it can be around for a while. But when it's bad it's so bad, I'm left stranded somewhere, need to call a tow to rescue me, and I swear it would be the last time. Since I moved to Alameda 20+ years ago, I've been going to Alameda Auto Care to get my car up and running when it needs fixing. I know nothing about cars except to drive them so I am always wary of getting ripped off. But I totally trust David and Andy - they won't do any unnecessary repairs on your car to run up your bill. I caught a nail in my tire and discovered it on my way to work. Big pain in the rear to deal with. I called around to the top 3 places on yelp for quotes and AACC had the quickest turnaround time for the money, so I brought my ride in. I got there, told them about the nail, and by the time I was done with getting my info in the CRM, my car was already on a jack and they were pulling the nail out. I wandered down to Salvation Army with my girlfriend to browse for a few minutes while they put the patch in. Made it back in about 20 minutes, all ready to drive, for $30.
