We've been to Alamo at other locations, but this one isn't as great. [[HIGHLIGHT]]For one, I didn't realize there are still movie theaters charging full price for seats that do not recline and are hard-backed and uncomfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Yikes! Second, the ordering process could've been smoother. While it was nice we could order concessions to our seats, the lack of QR codes sent to our email, lighting to scan the QR code, and the fact that it was a complete dead zone so we had to join the wifi just to use our phones to order = inconvenient and difficult. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was also challenging to use the paper form and menu when there wasn't sufficient lighting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Other dine-in theaters like CMX provide a light you can turn on for this. We choose this movie theater because of their amazing popcorn. Back in the day bottomless popcorn used to be $6. Now it's up to $11. So make the best of it and eat as many buckets as you can. The bottomless sodas used to be $5 or $6, but now they are up to $7. The process for food ordering has changed. You have to scan a QR code put in your credit card. it automatically locates your seat number and you place your first order via QR code. Once the movie starts then you go back to the old-fashioned way of writing your refills in any new orders on the white piece of paper with a tiny pen in the very dark theater. This was an interesting experience of having a menu at your seat and you have the option of writing your order on a slip, ordering online or server. The entire concept that the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema embodies is great. Prices are a bit high and with tipping, it is a bit too much on a cost basis, but otherwise, the experience is great!. Love watching a movie and having more options for food than just popcorn or hot dogs. I love being able to have things in the middle of the movie instead of leaving the film to get refills or more food, etc. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The theater environment is typical - some cleanliness issues were observed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I did have to wait a long time for refills during a recent visit when the theater was only 10% full. What happened to this theater? We just went to see the Odyssey and we end up in dreaded theater 9. I wish the app would let you know which theater the movie is playing in. We would have chosen a different time. 1. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As soon as we sat down, the armrest on one of our seats was completely broken. As in it came off. Dropped to the floor. Everything is now ordered through an app. No one will take your order. It took an extremely long time to get our drinks and even longer for our food. The food was cold by the time we got it. Not great, especially for fries. 3. Of course you are still expected to tip your servers. If you'd do not close out your tab within 20 minutes of the movie being over, it is closed for you with an automatic 18% tip added. No one tells you this of course. Luckily I remembered to close it out before we left. I do not mind tipping. I get it. It's part of our everyday life. I would like to have a real server take my order. 4. It really irks me we have to order online using their WiFi because regular signal will not work. I do not like using public WiFi. I try to avoid it at all cost. So not only do we need to use the WiFi, but we have to enter credit cards numbers as well as all our other info. A dishonest persons paradise. I visited Alamo on a Monday evening to take my daughter to her first movie - the Lilo & Stitch Live Action movie.. However, we accidentally drove to the Arlington theater first making us late for the actual movie in Loudon. I'm from DC. While trying to enter our theater, we were told by a worker that we cannot enter the theater late. I just went to the front counter to ask for a manager because to be denied entry into a movie that is basically just starting after previews is INSANE. When I met the manager he only delivered more bad news.. that because my daughter is a month short of being 3 years old, the no late attendance policy must be enforced and that we should bring her on Tuesday for Kid's night (they turn the theater volumes down). He did refund us and give us rain check cards... but it just sucks. While I understand where they may be coming from, a place with a gazillion unclear rules suck the fun out of EVERYTHING. I'm lowkey traumatized because now I feel like if I even try to go back there's gonna be something out of the clear blue sky that denies us entry. The 3 rating is solely for the manager being nice and rectifying the issue swiftly. Discrimination Against My Disabled Daughter at Alamo Drafthouse Ashburn On September 13th, I took my daughter Rosie -- who has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair -- to the Hamilton 10th Anniversary showing at Alamo Ashburn. This event was advertised as interactive, encouraging audiences to clap, cheer, and sing along. Rosie did exactly that: clapping, laughing, singing with joy- she LOVES Hamilton. Less than 20 minutes in, the general manager confronted us, claiming we were "too noisy." I explained that Rosie has a disability and that this was the point of the showing. He dismissed this, threatened to remove us "if she had another outburst." He returned multiple times -- even bringing security to also threaten us. All of this despite Rosie remaining quiet and compliant after his first warning. The only patron (there were a total of 10 patrons at this viewing) who objected left voluntarily at intermission. Still, during the second act, the general manager stopped the movie, turned up the lights, and demanded that I remove her from the theater. Until, every other moviegoer defended Rosie, saying she was welcome and not disruptive at all and that the general manger and the security teams were the true disruption. The general manager relented - after claiming he was just "doing his job". Security and a senior staff member later apologized for how poorly it was handled. The manager never did. The most heartbreaking moment: Rosie, who had been so excited about this show, and had been so attentive to screen and singing and clapping with joy, folded into herself, turned away from the screen, and grabbed my hands -- trying to silence her happiness to comply. This situation was completely mishandled, discriminatory, and a likely ADA violation. No family should be forced to defend their disabled child's right to watch a movie in peace. Rosie deserved to belong. Instead, she was nearly removed for the "crime" of joy. If I could give this theater zero stars- I would. read more

I'm not big on watching movies at the theaters any more. However, my friend invited me to go with her recently. They have large and comfortable seats. If arriving before the actual screening, there is enough lighting to order food/drinks from the menus. Once the movie starts, the service is slower. They do not allow talking or cell phone use during the movie, which I appreciate considering how disruptive that can be. We ordered a cheeseburger and fries using the notepads they provided.We specifically asked them to split the burger and provide lots of ketchup. Unfortunately, they didn't provide the ketchup and we had to ask multiple times and almost 30 min later received the ketchup to eat with cold fries. I wasn't a fan of this ordering system for this reason. I can see that some people would like it because they don't have to get out of their seats. Being that I don't watch movies in theaters at all these days, I didn't like that I can hear sounds/music from the surrounding movie rooms. I'm giving 4 stars (instead of 3) because there were some nice things about my experience, but I would prefer to watch movies at home. read more

I ordered tickets through the Alamo Drafthouse website and received an on-screen confirmation but never got the emailed tickets. I called and was told to give my name at the theater, and the front desk staff was excellent--pleasant, helpful, and printed our tickets right away. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Unfortunately, the experience declined once we entered the theater. Two of our seats had sticky soda residue, and the floor in front of several seats had not been properly cleaned.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We alerted an employee who attempted to clean the area but was unable to do so, so I returned to the desk and switched our tickets. [[HIGHLIGHT]]In the new seating area, it was difficult to tell which row we were in because the rows are not clearly marked.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We accidentally sat in the wrong row, and although an attendant checked our tickets, the mistake wasn't caught and our food order was taken. When the guests assigned to those seats arrived, we moved to the correct row. This caused confusion with our food, which was initially delivered to the row in front of us, but after explaining the situation, the staff corrected the orders. I also ordered a glass of wine that took about 20 minutes to arrive, and when it did, the glass was sticky. [[HIGHLIGHT]]While Alamo Drafthouse prides itself on its no-talking, no-phone policy, more attention should be given to cleanliness, seat labeling, and upkeep.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The only reason this review isn't lower is because of the outstanding front desk service. read more

Last two times we have been here they have not given us our food for over an hour. with hungry kids! I have to ask literally a dozen times just to get a water. They brought my hudband's second beer just before the movie ended. We finally got the pretzel sticks we had ordered over an hour before and they brought 2 - told us they would not charge us for any, then charged us for both! Wow! This was amazing, this was my first time at this location and also my first time at Alamo Drafthouse in the state of Virginia. I came for a movie party night for the movie Elf! I met some friends here and we had a great time. I was surprised by the elf hat and the balloon and the other things they gave to us. We got here early and had some drinks and appetizers in the bar area and then went into the theater about 6:30. The theater was packed as expected, and I really like the ambiance of the theater here with a complete aisle where you don't need to stand up to let people go by and also full table with a drink holder. It was nice. Also that there were menus on the table so that I could decide what else to order. Later in the evening I started out with pepperoni pizza and it was a full Pizza and it was hot and delicious. My friend had a chicken sandwich which looked really good. We shared some warm chocolate chip cookies about halfway through the movie. I really wanted to order a bottomless popcorn, but when I saw how big the bowl was, I should have considered ordering that instead of the pepperoni pizza. Make sure to remember the next time I come back to get an appetizer and a bottomless bowl of popcorn as well as those warm chocolate chip cookies. All in all I had a great time, I'm looking forward to coming back to see one of the other movie party nights during the Christmas season. I can't recommend this theater enough because of it not being the regular type of movie theater. Prices at movie theaters are high enough these days, but when you have an alamo Drafthouse where the food is made to order and brought to you and is of high quality, it's something that I can't recommend enough. It's a good theater but I think it's a complete scam that if you buy their summer pass (and they don't tell you this) that you cannot purchase tickets in person because "the system won't allow it" and you are forced to buy online and pay a service fee. That's a text book scam, and next year I will not be buying the pass because of it. A family of four is easily going to spend $30-$50 per show but that still not enough profit for them. The first time I came here was a few years ago and I honestly disliked the experience. It was extremely Annoying seeing the staff run around during the movie while trying to watch. I also thought it smelled horrible. I came here again with the family for spider-verse for a late Thursday 9pm showing. It wasn't bad! I honestly can't complain. We ordered the popcorn and the wings. I didn't really care for the wings but they weren't bad. The popcorn was yummy. The theater didn't smell terrible. I also didn't notice the employees running around a ton. I guess that depends on how people order food throughout the movie. They encourage folks come early so you can order and not disrupt the movie as it's going. Tip: if you show up 15mins after your movie start they won't let you in. That's their policy. Overall, it's not my favorite theater but I would go back again. read more

Cheated on my beloved AMC to see Indiana Jones here, and because there are a few special movies I want to see this month, my wife and I got passes. I like Alamo, but not as an everyday theater. I like the more casual atmosphere of AMC, but I will definitely be attending special screenings here in the future. I love the concept, the atmosphere, and the food. We literally just went to our seats and had our tickets checked by the waitress. No need to scan at the door. Theater was nice and big with tables and their special food ordering system. Chairs don't recline but were comfortable anyway. My favorite part of the night was the recap they did of all 4 Indiana Jones films before the finale. It was super funny and honestly useful even though I'm a huge Indy fan. I hope they do this for every franchise film! We ordered mostly off the special Indy menu and got the pulled pork pizza (excellent), Gem of Ra (good but a bit too sweet), loaded fries (standard menu item, tasty), and the Indy milkshake + I added booze (best item of the night). Our drinks took a long time to cone out - so long that I wound up using the ordering set up to remind them halfway thru the film - but the waitress completely comped them without us asking and was super apologetic and nice about it. I was impressed by the service and the willingness to fix a slight hiccup. My complaints are mostly with the way their Season Pass program works, which is a chainwide problem and not specific to this location. Convenience fees are not waived for members. Special theaters (IE Dolby) are an upcharge and not included. Many of their parties and special screenings are totally not offered on the pass (not even for an upcharge). Crystal City counts as a DC (IE more expensive theater) and is not included as part of the Northern Virginia tier. Also, Nicole Kidman doesn't tell me about the magic of the movies before the show starts, which is a bummer. Overall, this location is nice, spacious, and I will definitely be returning. Set a slip out not even 10 minutes into the movie, didn't get checked on or food/drinks in until probably about 25 minutes after I had set the slip up, had to push the service button for them to even come up to us. After our slip finally got taken it took around 20 minutes for us to get our drinks (literally a drink from a fridge and a fountain drink). Another 20 minutes pass and the movie is probably around 3/4 of the way done and we hadn't gotten our popcorn or cookies that should have been placed with our drinks 40 minutes prior. Had to press the button, again, and not even 5 minutes after asking if our food is ready it comes out. All this while other people are getting helped and other employees passing by. Finally near the end we get given the check and I put my card in the book and set it up so our server can to take it, credits and after credit scenes pass and everyone's leaving and signing their checks, not me though. Nobody came to get the checkbook and run my card, I had to go find an employee and ask them to help me out. I've been here many times and it has never been this bad before. read more

The positive first - it is conveniently located, and the place is very clean, and the theater that we went to had a great Soundsystem and a big huge screen. Having said that, the seats are not at all comfortable for a three hour movie. Also, the waiters and waitresses continue to pass on by in and out serving food right in the middle of the movie so if you are trying to enjoy your film without being disturbed then this is not the place to go, but if you do want to eat a snack, have a beer, and also watch a movie, then it may be OK for you. read more

Updating again. Each time I've updated I've had to downgrade a bit. I think I'm officially done with Alamo. I really dislike it more and more every time and I only go because the movie times tend to be more convenient than Regal's. This most recent visit, the server forgot several items in our order and had to be reminded twice. She was absent most of the film and never came when we had order cards up or pushed the button. She also then charged me for a drink that she FINALLY came to get the order for (as the movie was nearing its end), but then she never actually brought the drink. Couple all that with uncomfortable seats and echo-y audio systems, and a customer service department that doesn't even seem to exist (good luck finding a way to submit an issue on their website), I'll be going to Regal exclusively from now on. read more

last night was a terrible experience. We arrived at our seats early and placed our dinner order. our food took an hour to be be served after several attempts of checking on her food. It still took forever for our drinks to arrive. My was crying because she was so hungry and I'm 8 1/2 months pregnant and was starving and we watched everybody else get their food served and second round of drinks and extra food while we just sat there and nobody checked on us. We had to call for somebody every single time to check own food. We missed half the movie because my daughter was crying about her food. I won't be going back there anytime soon. read more

This place was recommended to us by my mother in law while we were in town for the holiday. What a grand disappointment. They were sold out of fully half of the menu. The drinks were disgusting and very poorly made. I just had a very unpleasant customer experience at this theater-- but most disturbingly-- with the General Manager, Thomas Hutchinson. I had seen a movie earlier in the week, during which, I ordered a refill to my "bottomless" popcorn & soda, which was never brought. That was an acknowledged mistake on their part, and I felt it fair to request a full or partial refund for the payment for those two items (~$20), via email once I'd returned home. Thomas contacted me by email and offered me instead a raincheck ticket and a snack voucher in return. When I called the theater, thinking that he might not have understood my question (i.e. whether he was unable to return me my money or just unwilling), he became agitated and told me he was not refunding my money. He said something might have been done if I'd spoken with him that day, but was dismissive of the fact that I had needed to take my daughter after the movie to a class and didn't have time to speak with a manager. I felt an email an hour later was a more appropriate reaction on my part anyway, as I wasn't looking to get the server into trouble for a human mistake. I thought they'd be happy to just refund me, as I'd been a movie-goer & rewards member there since they opened, but I was disappointed and found the Manager's manner inappropriately and unnecessarily aggressive. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Their theater is a great place to watch a movie, but I really can't abide poor customer service or rudeness.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] For fans of top-notch customer service, look elsewhere. After waiting forever, we finally went to the Alamo Drafthouse at One Loudoun. First off: they have 32!!!!! Beers to choose from. We were able to select seats ahead and perused their (understandably) limited menu. Food isn't great but you are watching a movie on the big screen, in the dark so bear that in mind. I had pizza and my wife had chicken tenders. Both medium. But not bad. But again, we are watching a movie! And the beer was good. A nice touch was that they showed retro trailers and clips that directly referenced the movie we were about to see! I've never visited an Alamo Drafthouse before - until last night. It's a bit of a hike to go here for movies. But we made a special night out of it. We visited for Avengers: Endgame. We arrived about 20 minutes before the film, took our seats, and looked over the menus. I ordered the fried pickles, a meat lover's pizza (with the Cauliflower crust option), a bottle of water, and a Stone IPA. The fried pickles and pizza were excellent. I very much enjoyed both - as well as the Stone IPA! I also love that Alamo is adamant about people turning off their phones and putting them away. They will kick you out of the theater - with no refund (one warning) - if you start engaging in using your phone in the auditorium during the film. I am sick and tired of inconsiderate a-holes at my local theater over in Gainesville, VA - with people constantly on their phones during any given film. I will be back here again at some point!
