Every show we've been to has been spectacular from beginning to end, but perhaps even more impressive is the job they do preparing their summer students for their camp shows. This place has a very entertaining show and is clean The service has been good the couple of times we've been here. I honestly want to rate it higher but the tickets were approximately $70 per person which is comparable to the other similar options. The food is the serious shortfall. This is the second year in a row it's been disappointing. The ham was like a lunch meat style ham cut into slices. They also had a white fish in a hollandaise type sauce which was okay. The sides were mashed potatoes (no gravy) , buttery carrots, and a broccoli & cheese dish. You also get a small salad and rolls with butter. It isn't a buffet as you are served in a cafeteria type line. They offer seconds if you're so inclined. But honestly it's kind of like hospital food. We had to eat on the way home and that's pretty disappointing considering the cost. It pails in comparison to Toby's or Ditch Apple theatre. There was people all around us mumbling about the food or lack there of including a grandmother who told her 10 year or so grandchild that she'd be taking him to McDonalds afterwards. Finally, a guy at a table close went outside to smoke his weed 4 times during the evening. So the 4 older couples around him had to endure the unpleasant odor. We saw Oklahoma towards the start of its run and had to come back and see it on its closing day - it was THAT good. We are frequent patrons of The Playhouse and the shows just keep getting better. The actors, the costumes, the props, the set, the choreography, the tech - it's all high caliber. And there's not a bad seat in the house. The food is delicious and the drinks are wonderful as well. And the actors are hands-on at every step of the night: they wait tables, they serve the food, they greet the guests, they bartend, they cook, they do it ALL. It makes it a really special experience. We'll keep coming back for a long time. And if you haven't visited yet, you should give it a try. It's a gem. read more

BLUF: it's a nice, casual night out, the cast members work their butts off, and the food is mediocre I went with a large group for a Saturday night show. Up front understand there are two aspects to this review: the food and the show. So consider the details more than the stars. The Show: good, entertaining, and a nice comfortable night out for not a huge price tag. The cast members are also servers, so they really work hard all night, and you can kind of get to know them on a personal level. The downside is that there is no service while the show is on. Recognize the show for what it is: a local show with local cast. Is everyone great? No. Does everyone clearly give their all? Yes. Are there some standouts? For sure. We saw Footloose and the main female characters sounded amazing in harmony. The owner does kind of a hard sell for tipping at the start, which is kind of off putting, but I get why he did it (to support and look out for his cast/servers). So I took that with a grain of salt and yes, we did tip. The Food: not so great. Not bad, but pretty much cafeteria-level food, served buffet-style, with fixed portions. I posted the menu with this review, but also included are a small house salad to start and a small piece of yellow cake for dessert. The salad was a pretty good, typical salad, although they go VERY light on the dressing. The main course was okay, the fish being the biggest disappointment. It looked like they had kept it warm on a steam table, so the batter was mushy instead of crispy. The cake was actually pretty tasty. Water, coffee and iced tea are included. You can buy cocktails as well, and those who got one liked them. If you are vegetarian, or especially if you are vegan, look carefully at the menu and plan accordingly. We had a vegan ask for another salad since she could eat so little of the food, and was told no b/c they make exactly the number of salads as there are seats each night. Again, I get it. They can't send back to the kitchen for another salad, because nobody is in the kitchen anymore, as the cast/servers are all out front serving. read more

Enjoyable evening out with the family, though it does end up being quite a bit of money per person. I'm okay with that since we are supporting a small business and live entertainment. Dinner was good and dessert was even better. I liked that they offered everyone to come up for seconds, although we were so full by the time we finished our cheesecake. I think my only recommendation would be to start the show sooner after dinner ends. We were seated around 6:05 and it seemed like we were eating around 6:35. The show didn't start until about 7:45. I'd never been to a dinner and show before, but I loved our night out here! They serve dinner before the show, and there's an option to get more drinks for intermission. The actors are also the waiters. We saw Little Women in November. The food was good, a normal Thanksgiving style meal. We had salad, dinner, and dessert all included. My wife and I really enjoyed the performance of Young Frankenstein. It was spirited and very well acted. The entire performance was well rehearsed and delivered without any noticeable errors. The cast was engaged and really looked to be enjoying their roles. The details were there in each character. The seating was adequate for viewing the performance. Had such a great time! Saw The Turn of the Screw and it was so well done. Very creative in how it was presented, they did such a great job with the play. The actors were amazing, great lighting effects complimented the dark story. Loved the smaller more intimate theatre setting. The staff was so nice and very accommodating. Charlie was our server and she was great! Love that everyone who serves is also involved in the show production. It was really nice to have the owner present. She took time to actually speak with each table during dinner. You don't see that kind of owner interaction much anymore. So happy to have live theatre back! We just returned home from seeing the performance of "Boeing Boeing". We have been to the playhouse several times, but this has been our favorite play! Very funny !!! We stumbled across this place on a show website. It sounded fun so we gave it a shot. We were certainly happy we did, even taking into account the nearly 2 hour rush-hour drive from Northern Virginia! We ended up having a very pleasant buffet-style dinner with salad, variety of entrees and desert. The food was not out-of-this-world, but it was warm, fresh, and tasty! The service was well organized with people called to the buffet in order, so no long lines and no pushing/shoving. The wait staff was very helpful and friendly and it was fun to see them performing later in the evening. The show we saw was Gigi and it was very well done. The older male lead (Uncle Gaston) was particularly talented, as was the young lady as Gigi. It was a lovely, fun evening. This will not be our last visit! read more

Last night we were invited to join family and friends to see a Christmas Carol at this playhouse. My first experience at a live dinner show. I must admit I was taken back by a pre dinner announcement by Sarah (apparently a lead employee) who advised everyone to heavily tip on the price of the ticket as well as any beverages we purchased. It was suggested 20-25 percent. As the unknown price of the tickets were gifted to us by others, not at the table, I thought it would be nice to buy a round of drinks for our party. I guess that tagged me as the gatekeeper of gratuity. Unfortunately at the intermission after I paid only for the drinks and added a 15% tip on the beverage tab, I was called out by Sarah wondering if I was unhappy with my service. Very unprofessional I don't get why guest's need to tip on the price of the ticket for a buffet service where your only interaction with staff is in taking your bar order. Perhaps they need to pay their employees/performers a much higher base pay. At this playhouse if you heavily tip on the price of the ticket for a party of 8 - you can expect to pay over $500 for an average performance, a weak salad bar and a entrée hot station whereas 90% of the food was smoothered in gravy. We have been here twice. We have seen The Turn of the Screw and Every Christmas Story Ever Told and Then Some. Both shows and meals were good, but I did like the Christmas show and meal better. The staff is friendly and accommodating. I read the reviews about tipping and all I can say is this practice is not unreasonable. I have been to big dinner shows in Tennessee (you were expect to tip), The Golden Gays show in Cumberland, MD (where at the end you tip the performers whether you wanted to or not), and the Barter Theater in Abington, VA where you paid over $60 for tickets for good seats with no dinner. Plus at Washington County Theatre, they offer seconds for anyone who wants them after everyone has went through. I have not seen that anywhere else. My family has had the opportunity to see several shows at The Washington County Playhouse and we are NEVER disappointed! The actors are talented, the food is delicious, the venue is intimate and cozy which means there isn't a bad seat in the house, and we've sat in every section at one time or another. The Theatre for Young Audiences shows are a wonderful introduction to live theatre for children and the Mainstage productions are fabulous for a night out with friends or a date night. We haven't been disappointed by a bartender yet! The shows are always new and fresh with both new talent and favorite actors. The level of talent is astounding in this area. We love it and everyone who has attended with us has had a great time. The shows have always been wonderful and the food is good. We have very few performing arts gems like the Playhouse in and around Washington County. We came in tonight to see Sweeney Todd. Unfortunately, we had to leave during the intermission, due to a bit of failure-to-plan-appropriately on our part- and I am truly disappointed that we didn't get to see the ending. The cast was absolutely amazing! I was so pleasantly surprised to see acting of that caliber in such a small playhouse! The musical numbers were on point. The costumes were the best I've seen in a while. The food was actually far better than I was anticipating and perfectly themed to the play. I loved that the cast was also our waitstaff; we had Beadle and he was just lovely! I saw some reviewers that complained about the price and tipping, but in my opinion, it was absolutely worth every penny (and Beadle certainly earned his tip with his wonderful personality). We will definitely be back, and will plan appropriately so we can see the entire show. I attended the Washington County Playhouse with 3 of my friends to see "The Golden Girls". Many things impressed me. First of all we are in middle of this pandemic. I felt safer there than anywhere other than my own house. They took every precaution. The servers/actors wore gloves and masks. The plastic dinnerware was sealed in plastic wrap with a napkin, fork, spoon, knife, salt and pepper. Each table was invited to the buffet one at a time so you were only with your tables party and the cook served the food wore gloves. You had to wear your mask unless you were eating or drinking even during the show. The food was amazing and there was a large variety so there was something for everyone. I chose to eat a little of everything. Yummy! Everyone was spread out beyond the 6' social distancing, except for those in your party. The show was fun and we all had a great time and the cast was amazing! I understand that this was the first play since March. I highly recommend attending and supporting the Playhouse. We are fortunate to have this Playhouse so close; it is fun and entertaining! read more

I was Unable to access website about policies. With it saying a children's theater we figured our two month old could come. As soon as we got there Laura Martin came up to us saying we can't stay because of him. so we asked for a refund since they were kicking us out. She said no. Then Shawn Martin came up and aggressively told us no. Thanks for making us feel uncomfortable, don't call yourself a children's theater. Our Christmas dinner show was ruined. It was part of our Christmas present from my parents. Not to mention if we did stay for the show our seats were at a terrible location in the corner and the tables were to small for normal size person to sit comfortably. read more

My wife and I went there for the first time on December 21, 2019 to see "The Wizard of Oz". We booked a table for two and paid in advance. The map on Playhouse's website showed each table separate from other adjacent tables. However, when we were seated, we saw all tables were pushed together to make one "very long table". Plus there was a rail behind both sides of the table which limited you getting out of your seat. We were seated near the end of the "very long table". However, to get in and out of your seat you have to ask your "table neighbor" to get up so you can get to your seat due to rails that prevent you from walking behind. I felt claustrophobic and trapped. The real kicker is that the meal before the play is buffet style. Therefore, you have to get up and get your own food, disturbing your "table neighbor" each time. I was upset with the seating arrangement. It was very uncomfortable and not conducive to semi-private conversation with my wife. I looked around the dining area to see if there was empty table we could move to. I saw one in the corner of the theater that was at the end of the another "very long table". I disturbed my "table neighbor" and got out my chair to find an employee to see if we could move. I found an employee, explained the situation, and asked if we could move to the empty table. She asked the owner and said it was okay. We moved to the new table, which was tolerable as I wasn't trapped any more and could get out of my seat at will. The Playhouse gives you a number upon arrival and calls a few numbers at a time when it is time for your table to go up to the salad bar and then again for the main entree. The plates, salad and dinner type, are already on the table. Both are small to limit the amount of food you can put on the plate. I looked around as people got their food. Everybody stacked their food like a mountain. After every table is called for both salad and main entree, the Playhouse announces that the buffet is now open to everyone for seconds, but only for five minutes! The food is mediocre. The owner came around to everyone's table to ask how things were. When she came to our table, she asked if this was our first time. I was very blunt and told her "yes" but that it would also be our last time. I complained about the "very long table" setup and how the seating chart on the website was deceptive. She was defensive in her response and gave some lame, nonsensical excuse for the deceptive seating chart. After, the five minute warning call on the buffet is over, they roll away the food tables and do a quick cleanup to prepare for the play portion of the evening. Just before they start the play, the owner announces how the play will go and explains about payment of drinks and gratuity. She real pushes the gratuity issue, tries to guilt you into leaving hefty gratuity for servers and actors who she says works mostly on tips alone. The play is divided in two acts. After the first act, there is an intermission where you are expected settle your bar tab and leave a hefty gratuity for the staff. Being that the chairs were uncomfortable and the play was hard to see from our location, my wife and I decided to depart during the intermission. We didn't buy any drinks, so there was nothing to settle on our bill unless we were guilted and stupid enough to leave a hefty gratuity for extremely poor service. It appears to me that the owners are greedy cheapskates. They overpack the room with too many tables on purpose to get as many ticket sales as possible. In my opinion, if these owners real cared more about the enjoyment of their customers over profits, they would remove one-third to one-half the tables in the dining area to make the atmosphere comfortable. Instead, they try to "pack 'em in like sardines". Additionally, the owners should maybe pay their staff out of their own pocket instead of trying to squeeze it out their customers through guilt trips. read more

This is one of the best places to go for great entertainment in the Tri-State area. The food is good, the owners make an effort to make everyone feel welcomed & they try to pick shows that appeal to a variety of audiences! As a performer, it is also an amazing place to work! They make sure that you know how much they appreciate you! They have a user-friendly website that can answer any of your questions about your evening out. Another option is to call the box office & speak to them directly for quick answers to your questions (i.e. appropriate attire, show running times, appropriate age of children attending, etc). Don't take my word for it, come enjoy a great night out while supporting the local arts! You won't regret it!! read more

The show was okay, but we arrived as instructed at 6:00 PM and the evening didn't end until almost 11:00 PM, which is long given how uncomfortable the seats are. The idea of the actors being your servers is sort of interesting until you realize that the show and timing is dragged out to an extreme degree. The intermission was about 45 - 50 minutes long. That's too long. The food is very meh. The salad bar was fresh which was a good start but the spinach thing was dry, the pork was dry and tough, The rice and fried chicken were okay.. Very much like banquet food. Seems every drink from martini to glass of wine costs $9. All in all - a bit disappointing considering it was about $150 per couple and the production is off - off - off Totem Pole level. read more

My granddaughter and I have been to a couple of plays there and have tickets for future performances . We have certainly enjoyed the plays and fantastic performances! Everyone there is super nice and we have had wonderful experiences there! Highly recommend the playhouse. Very nice and affordable place to take children. With one exception, none of the past half dozen or so owners of the Playhouse has been forthright about paying the "rent" due to the artists who create the musicals and plays that they produce. Properties may not be advertised, announced, or even auditioned without these royalty payments having been made. This also applies to musical reviews, retrospectives, and scenes from plays used out of context. This is intended to be a friendly reminder. The show itself was nice but, we will never return again.. we bought our tickets 4 months prior with the intention of getting good seats with early booking. When we arrived the seats were in the back and had obstructed view... for my 70 year old mom who has never attended a dinner theater in her life could not hear the actors and also had trouble seeing the play ... we explained our situation to the owners expressing my 70 year old moms handicap... instead of trying to relocate us and show compassion for the elderly, the owners showed extreme lack of customer service and argued our issue was with the booking company not them!!!! It is a sad fact but, this situation has forever tainted my moms opinion for the performing arts. She will not spend any money or time going again which is very sad. It is from my experience and is my opinion that the old and the young should probably find another venue for the performing arts that can accommodate customers ... we were not even offered a solution to the seating problem from the owners just a shift of blame .... we will be moving on .... read more
