She greeted me and I asked for a Toyota Rav 4 she didn't have one I got a honda CRV I am enjoying the car. 02-20/23-2026 I preordered a vehicle via Costco Travel. Got a good rate $ 211.54USD and a nice 2026 VW Atlas Cross Sport SUV. Plenty of room for five people but better for three people with luggage. good gas milage and ok ride for a new advance vehicle. My 2022 Toyota 4Runner has a better ride than this one. I recommend the fuel refuel upon return it cost gas at the rate plus $10.00 for labor. it's worth it and the hassle. Vehicle was clean and new. you can Bluetooth navigation with your phone or use a USB C Cord. read more

Reserved a car online, and stood in line while waiting employee took my license and debit card did all paperwork gave me keys to the vehicle and then said I couldn't rent it due to having an Alabama debit card, said it it had been another state they would have taken it but since it was from Alabama the state my ID was from they couldn't accept it! Had a reservation for a car.. and first thing when I'm rudely greeted at the counter was you'll have to wait because we have no cars. I understand things happen, but it's how it was communicated and that I was a huge disservice to them for having to work today. Then, going over the contract the rental agent was trying to mislead me into purchasing coverage by stating, are you getting collision or liability thru me? There is zero management presence and the ladies at the counter are not service friendly enough to handle having customers waiting. read more

I went to alamo in Birmingham on 03/06 to pick up a rental that I booked at noon. I requested to pick up at 8pm. When I get there the black girl with long braids told me I couldn't get the car since I had booked it within 24 hours. So I asked why did it show availability? She really couldn't give me an answer. I said well can you look up my reservation, she said no. It's not going to show up in the system. So at this point I'm lost. I said well I called customer service and they said a car would be available. She said oh, they don't know what they're Talking about. She kept saying the manager has to do this and do that. Needless to say I walked away with no rental. What ever happen to customer service and going the extra mile. And If your rules are you can't book a car same day and pick up same day that needs to be on the website. I think it's a bunch of bull. read more

I'm pretty excited about my experience at this Alamo. I think I've had pretty average experiences renting cars, but Alamo has been the best so far! Quick hits on this Alamo: -Super convenient not too far from Baggage Claim. -Lady at the counter was very friendly! Suggested some pretty good eats in Birmingham. -Ended up getting upgraded, since our economy car was not available. Ended up getting a Sonata. -Sonata was a surprisingly comfortable, well appointed vehicle. The only thing I would say is that the car itself was not clean. The worst part was the inside windshield was filthy. You know, if the windshield is clean, the entire car seems clean! -Super easy return, very fast, very friendly! Got a great deal via the Delta rewards website! Will choose Alamo again in the near future! read more

I have rented a car from Alamo for the past 5 MONTHS and spent literally THOUSANDS of dollars. *Every week I call to extend the rental for one week further, which costs around $175-215 weekly rate. Today I called and they are quoting me almost DOUBLE that rate. *Plus, when I told the customer service lady about my loyalty and all the business I bring to Alamo, instead of thanking me, she interrupted me and said she was going to forward my call to the "escalations department." I just returned from a quick trip to Birmingham with a rental car for one day...August 13. I went to pick-up and they had ZERO cars available. They were all dirty. It took them some time to locate one. They eventually got me a car from Enterprise. It was making a ton of noise as soon as I started backing out of the spot. I have never been in a rental car that was as nasty as this one! It was gross! there was a weird sticky substance on the gear shift, window controls, and side mirror controls. Not to mention the substance that resembled dried snot all over the steiring wheel, the the splatters of a whitish substance all over the windshield. I did not notice most of this when I picked the car up as it was parked in a dark garage and by the time I was in it and on the move I was running late and did not have time to turn around and request a different car! I rented from Alamo for a few days while in Birmingham on business. The rates were reasonable and the service was fine, the cars were new and well maintained. The access to rental cars in the parking structure directly across the street from the baggage claim was convenient, though hard to find. All the signage posted Alamo and National together. Alamo could improve their signage in the airport and in the parking structure where rental cars are located. I had a little trouble finding the rental counter in the parking structure. And after leaving the desk, it was confusing to find the location of the cars. The signage into the terminal from the car rental return location could be improved too. Still, I would rent from this company again if I return to Birmingham and need a car. read more

This was probably the rudest way I wanted to be welcomed to Alabama. Or really anywhere. I waited in line and the first customer had a pretty complicated situation so I wait patiently. Eventually another worker comes out to assist the next customer. The first customer leaves I finally walk up to the first worker. Her name was something like Sheila. Let me tell you she took rude to whole new level. First she's so busy shuffling papers and talking to the other worker that she doesn't even acknowledge my existence. There was no "I will be with you shortly" or "just a moment." Nothing. She didnt even look up at me. I felt invisible. I waited a little while to see what she would do. Eventually I'm getting annoyed but give her the benefit of the doubt that maybe she didnt see me even though I was standing right in front of her and said "excuse me." Her response? "I see you. Just wait. I'm actually getting off. I was waiting for her." Then she mumbled something. It seemed like she had a headache. Fine she's tired and had a headache but seriously she made it seem like I was inconveniencing her because she had another customer to deal with before she could go home. I would have been perfectly understanding if she had told me from the beginning that she was getting off and the other person would help me. But I continued on giving her the benefit of the doubt and think maybe the first customer's problem was really difficult and she needed a moment. So I patiently wait. But the next bit really just blew my mind. She had the audacity to tell me, a paying customer whose existence wasn't even acknowledged in the slightest and made to wait, to "Well hurry up. I'm not going to wait on you." Then she held out her hand not even looking at me like I had been holding her up this entire time. It was the first time I felt like saying "never mind I want a refund and you to arrange a car rental for me with a different provider." I have never felt so insignificant as a customer or as a person before. She didn't even go over what I was signing or even offer me an upgrade. I didn't say anything at the moment. But I wish I did. Thanks Sheila and Alabama for the warm welcome. The Alabama heat was warmer than that. Oh and I still was not told hello or an apology for making me wait. The only reason why I'm giving this a one star is because - let's be real, there shouldn't even be a star - was the people at the pick up location. Once you could find the location, which was difficult, the people there were nice and helpful. Even the car return was pretty pain free. Although it was confusing on what to do. Maybe they should work the front counter. Update 7/6/17. I was contacted about my experience and was able to get a partial refund because my experience. While financially satisfactory, I do hope customer service gets fixed. read more

I rented from Alamo for a few days. It was a good experience. Nothing bad to say. They had a great selection of cars, alot of them were brand new, which makes it kinda nice. The only drawback was the cashier kept trying to convince me to upgrade my rental. I kinda wish they would have just upgraded me, as it would have been a nice surprise, especially considering I'm going to have to rent another car soon. Anyway, all and all, check out and return was quick, easy, and a breeze. The cars were clean and new. The staff was friendly (except for the guy smoking a cigarette right by the pick up station), and the experience was pleasant. Compared to other car rental agencies, Alamo is OK. The pet peeve I have is that the interior front windshield need to be clean so when driving in the dark or into direct sunlight that my view is not impaired. Alamo definitely failed on this one...had to clean the inside windshield with my coat as I was driving from the airport west. Otherwise Alamo has always been one of my top choices for rental cars. read more

As background, I rarely leave negative reviews but in this case strongly recommend renting from enterprise or ANY OTHER CAR RENTAL besides Alamo. Alamo customer service messed up our prepaid reservation not once but TWICE in the span of the 50 MINUTES. I wasted almost an hour on the phone with corporate because the Alamo desk at the airport "did not deal with reservations" despite the fact I was in standing in front of them. There needs to be another person at the airport desk as the Alamo employee clearly could not handle the workload by herself. We ended up giving up trying to rent from Alamo at the airport and just walked over to the enterprise desk where we were in and out in the span of 5 minutes. read more

The staff (Dana?) and manager of Alamo Rent A Car located at BHM airport are rude, inconsiderate and utterly incompetent. My wife called needing to modify an existing reservation due to a death in the family. Picking up a car 2 days earlier than previously planned would seem like a simple request. Apparently a request of this magnitude is more difficult than differential equations and organic chemistry. Dana took our call on the evening of 5/16/2017 and failed to call us back at all. She assured us she would call back within 20 minutes. When my wife called again the following morning the first person she spoke with responded by saying "Oh ma'am, we ain't got not cars at that time." While this may have been true, her inability to grasp basics of the English language prompted my wife to ask to speak to her manager. The manager of the Alamo/National rental counter in BHM was unable to assist and said our request could not be completed. He was also rude and abrupt towards my wife, who had made it abundantly clear she was calling to change the reservation due to a death in the family. A suitable solution was not offered. This experience left my wife in tears. Individuals as incompetent and ineffective as those working the rental counter the morning of 5/17/2017 do not deserve employment in a customer facing role. The world does need ditch diggers... Maybe these employees should consider a career change, one more suited to their mental capacity. We will never rent from Alamo/National/Enterprise again. I suggest you do likewise. read more

Alamo in Birmingham rented a car to me with a small chip in the windshield. There was a bit of a problem with the damage recovery unit trying to bill us. Rented a car for a 4 day weekend, used one free upgrade. I was expecting to get a toyota corolla. When I got to the airport I got a free upgrade to mini van/suv. I chose the smallest that they had, a Hyundai Tucson with 58 miles on it. That small SUV was a great ride, so much better than the new ford edge I drive at home. The people at the counter were kind and happy. At return I was greeted at the parking spot and they took care of everything. I will use Alamo the next time I travel through Birmingham. read more

I was traveling with my husband in two toddlers. i reserved a car under the category that would fit our needs. Needless to say the is not what was given to us. A very small two door car that would not even fit luggage, much less two car seats. When I spoke to the attendant I was told that they would upgrade me to a larger car for an additional $20 a day. I refused and told him to cancel my reservation. He then said that he would do it for $10 a day. I addition to this. When I checked in the front desk reception was less than friendly. She barely could get out an hello. I asked her and showed her the emails I had been sent about getting a free upgrade and asked her if this would be applied to our reservation. Her response was a curt "No." Between the less than pleasant reception from the front desk to the car choice, we will not be using Alamo again. The experience was not a good one to say the least and having rented numerous cars from other rental car businesses in the past, we will not be going back to this one. *Update After writing my review on Yelp, John Hensley, Social Monitoring Coordinator for Alamo, contacted me and extended a refund. I was not expecting this. I appreciate his thorough investigation and customer service and am very satisfied with the outcome.
