What went well? Everything! Due to my flight getting in late, I arrived just before closing time at midnight; they were quick and efficient, gave me an upgrade due to what was available at no extra charge and the car seat that I added to my rental was in good shape and clean! Drop off was very easy, and easy to find, and in about 5 minutes I was out and ready to go to the terminal for check in. I even forgot to refill my tank and the cost wasn't was excessive as I thought it would be, or other experiences I've had with such. Definitely recommend using Alamo if you're going to GSP. read more

This Rental Car Service was nearly top-notch. If they had the car we wanted when we arrived, it would have been a 5-Star review. They substituted a car that was not as luxurious but was very fuel efficient. Anyway... What I love the most is this, I pull into the parking garage at 3:30 AM, lonely, depressed about leaving family, and driving in the middle of the night, just feels sad. I am ALWAYS greeted by the nicest person. No other rental agency at GSP has a human waiting for you. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. I reserved a van way ahead of time!!! I called customer service because my Visa wouldn't work online. She said it was fine, just to be there, have my card, and take a piece of mail showing my address and have proof of insurance because the website doesn't take bank Visa cards. Weird but okay! I showed up Sunday night to get the van. They refused to rent it to me because I didn't have a flight leaving out of GSP (although I did in the last 7 days) and I didn't have a credit card other than my bank Visa. Now imagine sitting at an airport, on a Sunday night, no other rental place is open, and I had to be somewhere Monday morning at 6am before other rental companies open. They acted as if they didn't care and just started helping the next guest. They also said they had no idea why anyone would say bring mail. I don't just write random notes in my phone calendar. It was told to me by Alamo! If I'm not in GA at 6am, I lose at least $500 for my train ticket and possibly $1000 for my house rental. If I have proof on my phone I talked to Alamo for 15 mins, a screenshot of my reservation, enough cash and a Visa if they don't want cash, then I shouldn't be left sitting outside an airport CARLESS!!! read more

Very frustrating. I call 5 times to either listen to the phone ring or get put on hold. I made my Alamo reservation online at noon, I usually use National, but no one picked up, voicemail box full, couldn't book it on my National app either for some reason. My flight was landing at 12:10 AM, so I try to responsible and let them know I will be there. This is after I CONFIRMED my reservation over the phone. Then I CHECKED IN online. I finally got to talk to a woman after getting the GSP Alamo desk number from customer service from GSP airport.(That Alamo desk phone number evidently is not anywhere easy to find on the Internet.) She said we gave all of our cars away, and you will have to find another company (at 11:10 PM as I am boarding my plane in ATL). Me-" Great, when were you guys gonna let me know this??" Alamo woman-" I'm telling you now." Me-" But I called you......I'm reserved, confirmed, checked in, and I tried to find how I could get a "fast pass" and just get in my reserved rental car and not have to talk to anybody. So what else does a customer have to do to get service? So now I guess you are just stranding me at the airport because you didn't hold my reservation." Alamo woman- "Well you can talk to some other car rental company...."( As I now have to turn my phone into airplane mode on the plane.) Thank you for totally screwing me over Alamo and where were you National, Alamo's partner with a full mailbox??! Budget helped me and said that Alamo does that all the time. They don't wait for the last plane of the night. They will not honor your reservation if it puts them out and they have to stay another 15 minutes. This Seinfeld Episode said it best: "Jerry: I don't understand. Do you have my reservation? Rental Car Agent: We have your reservation, we just ran out of cars. Jerry: But the reservation keeps the car here. That's why you have the reservation. Rental Car Agent: I think I know why we have reservations. Jerry: I don't think you do. You see, you know how to *take* the reservation, you just don't know how to *hold* the reservation. And that's really the most important part of the reservation: the holding. Anybody can just take them." read more

Two minor complaints with this rental experience: 1. The lot is unsecured, so you have to wait in line at the office instead of picking your vehicle right out in the aisle. If I had known this I could have paid less for a different rental provider - the reason I pay more for Alamo is the convenience factor which unfortunately wasn't available here at GSP. 2. The rental agent's attitude was slightly abrasive, and I was especially put-off by the way she asked me whether I needed deluxe or basic coverage (making it sound like those were my only two options - when in fact declining coverage completely is the typical choice). I felt like she was being misleading and an uninformed consumer would end up paying more without realizing they had a choice. Other than that, the car was fine and I had no issues once I left the Alamo office. read more

We rented a 2018 Chevy Malibu for a week. The car was clean and beautiful and had awesome gas mileage. We drove from S.C. to MA and had no major mechanical issues. The only reason why I'm leaving 4 stars instead of 5 (and they did refund us this part) is because when we got the car it had only 10% oil left and no wiper fluid. We had to get a $95 (they're expensive in Boston) or we wouldn't have been able to drive the 980 miles home. They were very nice and apologized for the inconvenience. They do need to keep a better eye on their cars. I believe this was a brand new one. It only had 6500 miles on it when we rented it. It definitely needed a first service. Other than that, it was a wonderful experience. This is the second time we rented from them. They have the best prices around and we will use them again. read more

I have to say that Alamo is always ready with a car for me! I travel every month, and their cars are clean and I can usually get a good deal even with short notice. Had a great experience renting a car at the GSP terminal. The desk staff were incredibly friendly and were not pushy in the least. They were also out of the economy car so they upgraded us at no cost. The car was a Nissan Rogue and it was very clean. The fuel was not at full but again, not a problem. The parking lot staff noted that it was only half full and that we were clear to return it at half full. Will definitely rent from this location again as we visit often now that one of our kids goes to college nearby! read more

Very deceitful practices. I reserved the car for one price and pre-paid in full. When I tried to return the car I was told I had to go to the car rental counter instead of doing a quick drop off. I spent 20 min line and when I get to speak to the representative, she still can't figure out how to close my rental. She tells me that she'll clear it up with her manager. She said she couldn't give me a receipt because she couldn't close the rental because of the glitch. Luckily I didn't leave until I had proof that I returned the car - she signed the invalid receipt with her signature, which I took a picture of. Thankfully I did that because I later got a bogus charge on my credit card from them. I wonder if this is a scam that they are continually running. I will be reporting this to the Better Business Bureau for sure. read more

The rental, rate and service were very good up until we realized we had left my wife's prescription glasses in the overhead glasses holder. It has now been two days with numerous phone calls and very little support or concern by the staff and management at the Greenville Spartanburg Airport location. I would still recommend this location, just make sure you don't leave anything behind. read more

Hey, yes 5 stars for simple fast, lower priced and competent service. I am a regular patron of Alamo at GSP. I can count on excellent service when I get to their counter and directions to my rental in really no time at all. GSP is my favorite airport due to its manageable size and the ease with which one may get their rental car and get out. I used Hertz once in the past 2 years only because they, for some strange reason, had a lower rate at that time. Nice, sun lighted office and a much roomier office. The service was lack luster; as if they could be doing something else but they would take care of me because they wanted to be nice. I was not impressed with that. Then upon my return there was no one in the return area to allow me to check in my rental vehicle. I went into the office and I was fortunate to get a gentleman to handle my return. I waited inside, a bit impatiently, while he went back out to the rental to check it in. They apparently, at that time at least, did not have a specific crew or individual to serve the returning customers. I was really not impressed in the least. read more

I will NEVER rent from this company again. They flat out lied about when the car needed to be returned so they could charge me for an extra day. I purposely asked about a later return time and they lied, said it didn't matter and didn't change the time on my reservation. Manager Josh R did not even apologize for the mistake. He claimed the employee had worked there too long to make such a mistake. Rude customer service, he wouldn't even make eye contact. All 3 customer representatives just played on their phones, didn't say a word to me. I will NEVER rent from Alamo or National again! read more

Horrible. I went in there with a pre-purchased car rental agreement through Hotwire. When I tried to return the car I was told that there was an error. For some reason, there was a $25 credit on my account - which I didn't think was right either. The lady at the counter said that she would get it cleared it up with her manager and close the rental - it would be a $0 balance. I asked for proof that I returned the card so she signed the receipt and I took a picture. Weeks later I got a surprise charge for $34 on my credit card - no explanation. When I called Alamo back, they said that my rental rate was $19/day but in reality it was $17/day - which I have a receipt for. Now I have to work with my credit card company to dispute the extra charge - all because of a glitch in their POS. read more

Very disappointed in Alamo to say the least! The day I arrived there were no cars in the size I reserved so I was given a vehicle I really didn't want, but what was I to do. I drove the vehicle and a few days later I called to see if they had any cars similar to what I reserved and the agent I talked to was very nice and said yes, just return the vehicle and we'll get you set up with another car. So I returned the small SUV they had given me at first and was given another vehicle. No problems at all with the exchange. But the car I was given was in horrible condition with pretty high mileage for a rental car. It reeked of smoke and was pretty dirty on the interior. The fuel gauge also wasn't on full, but that was no biggie to me. So as soon as I left it went to the QT gas station close to the airport to top it off. As I was fueling the vehicle is noticed scratches on the right rear bumper. No big deal I assumed since the car was still being rented the damage was noted and the agent who gave me the car never mentioned it. I guess then I should have taken it back. But as many times as I've rented from Alamo I assumed they were on top of it. Upon return of the vehicle the gentleman checking in the cars approached me to get the mileage and look at the fuel and asked how was the rental. As he walked to the trunk he asked about the scratches and I said that's how the car was when I rented it. He said no big deal I just have to write this up on a ticket and again I told him this was the condition of the car when I received it. Again he said no big deal it's just procedure. So he printed my receipt and I was on my way to catch my flight. Now a little over two weeks later I received a letter from Alamo Rental Car Recovery Unit saying a car I rented has damage and asking for my insurance information. When I received this letter I was livid. First thing I did was Google them to get a number to call them and the funny thing is when you Google them the first thing that comes up is a scam. Cars they know are damaged and they put them back in the system to be rented and try to blame the next renters for the damage. This seriously has me very sceptical of Alamo on any further business in the future and it will be very hard for me to recommend them to anyone if this is a known practice the company does. Hopefully someone within the Alamo company will read this and contact me about my issue!! read more

The car seemed like a good deal as far as price. It drove well and we got great gas mileage so no complaints there. We were suppose to be upgraded from a sub-compact to a compact but the car I received was not a compact!! It also had close to 40,000 miles on it which seemed like a lot for a rental car and I was driving it across country and back. But it did fine, we just had cramped quarters for 3 people plus luggage! Return was fast and easy. I would rent from Alamo again but next time I will go check out the car before just accepting the one they give me to make sure it is what I rented! read more
