We reserved a Nissan Rogue or similar online directly through Alamo, with the skip-the-line option. Upon arrival at MSY, you'll have to leave the terminal, exit the building, and cross the street to one of the waiting shuttle buses for the 25-minute ride to the car rental center. Upon leaving the bus, follow the signs and head upstairs to the Alamo car rental. They have clean restrooms just outside the pick-up area. Our similar, just-washed, and low-mileage GMC Terrain was brought to us. The vehicle ran well for the week. Upon return, if you choose to fill it up yourself, the only gas station nearby is the Shell on Blues Street. Once you commit to Rental Drive, you cannot access it. When you return your Alamo rental, go all the way to the top of the ramp. Drive over the "don't back up spikes" and look for the attendant to direct you where to park. They will ask if you want a printed or emailed receipt, and that's it. Don't forget to take pictures and video of your rental, inside and out, to avoid allegations of damage. When we arrived 2 weeks ago they did not have the convertible we had requested but Sam jumped right in and gave us 3 other options that actually ended up being just fine and worked out well. He was having each car brought up for us to check out and decide on. Very accommodating. When we returned 2 weeks later he was there again and remembered us. All the hustling and hurrying just to have to wait in the longest line possible because no cars are cleaned, no cars are ready. The counter process was easy. But when you go to pick up the actual rental, be prepared to sit. But, if you want to spend more and 'upgrade' your rental, they can give you a car on the spot (SCAM). What's the point in a reservation when you have to wait more than a hour for an available rental. Do not recommend. Lesson learned. Never EVER again. read more

I have come to trust Alamo when it comes to a solid rental car experience and this time it was no exception. [Price]: I booked through Costco Travel and was quoted $285 for approximately 3.5 days, but I only ended up with $260 instead and received 7% discount as the total cost is based on the exact days & hours rented out (charged based on 3 days and 3 hours instead of the original 3 days and 5 hours.) [Check-in]: Alamo Rent A Car is located in The MSY Consolidated Car Rental Center. Please note that you will need to take a free rental car shuttle to get to the rental car center and the travel time is approximately 25 - 30 minutes (one-way). Check-in was very straightforward and I elected to use my own insurance for comprehensive coverage. Luckily my rental car wasn't broken into or vandalized so I didn't have to deal with any potential headache. I walked up to the 2nd level to pick up my car and was greeted by Clara. She was very nice and gave me a standard SUV AWD instead of a full-size car with no extra charge because standard SUVs were the only available options. My SUV did have a very small dent on one side of the doors, but Clara said as long as the dent is smaller than the "body damage circle" (a sheet provided by the staff) then they won't question it. I did take a picture as well as told the agent at the exit gate about the dent before I officially left the parking structure. [Check-out]: I received an email from Alamo with a returning instruction. The return address was given (600 Rental Blvd., Kenner, LA 70062) and please note the return area (Enterprise / National / Alamo all share the same return area) is located on the first level of the Rental Facility and NOT on the second level. The return process was pretty smooth, but I did have a slight trouble locating the rental car drop-off entrance and had to circle around the rental car center twice to finally see a tiny entrance sign on the right side. Honestly it is not really Alamo's fault and I will just blame engineers who design this rental car center. Hated it. My car was ok. Additionally we had a great time in New Orleans attending the French Quarter Festival, until it was time to "return our Rental Car to Alamo"... While returning our rental, the Alamo representative (Regina) was rude and unprofessional and petty. She became argumentative over the car keys. I told her that the keys were in the ignition and the car was running. The car did not possess a push to start ignition which means the car needs a key to start the ignition. There is no way technically you can start the engine unless it was hot wired or you used a dent puller and destroyed the ignition where the key inserts. However, Regina took a simple task like returning a rental car into a full blown argument about a Rental Car's engine ability to "MYSTERIOUSLY" start without a key even if there is no push to start ignition... What a bunch of hog wash!!! Any how, I just walked away ignored the garbage she was spewing to a customer who just paid good money for a rental car. I am 100% guarantee Alamo is aware of this type of unprofessional customer service behaviour and it probably happens frequently. My next trip to NOLA, I will just use a ride share to avoid dealing with silly young unprofessional know-nothings in the future. I had the best experience at Alamo rental car. My husband and I travel a-lot across Europe, and the US. Christian and Tashi gave the best customer service we have ever had at a car rental location. They work fast during Mardi Gras I watched people come in and wait less than 5 minutes for their vehicles. They informed us that the vehicle we needed was being cleaned and thank you to the crew that cleans because they also work fast and efficiently. Tashi and Christian had great attitudes, and put in great effort to find the vehicle that worked best for my family of 7. I usually go for the Denali but that wasn't available. I usually use budget/Avis and Sixt but I am switching over to Alamo when ever I fly into New Orleans. Thank you to Christian for teaching me how to use the car. First time in NOLA and we needed a car to get to a wedding in Mississippi. Reserved through Costco and got a very good price with Alamo for 4 days unlimited miles. Did not realize there was a 15 minute shuttle ride from the airport to the rental cars. All the rental agencies are in the same building so you have to go here no matter what. We walk into the facility and see a very long line at the Thrifty counter, like 30 people, and only 1 person at the Alamo counter. Sweet! Check in was smooth. Getting car was smooth. Getting out was smooth and we are on our way. Getting back was not so smooth as the signage for rental returns sucks. We had to turn around a couple of times before I recognized the scenery from our drive in to get the car. Drop off was smooth after that. Shuttle back to airport was smooth. The only problem is the the rental price includes about $70 dollars in state, parish, airport, concession fees, and facility taxes. This place makes Chicago look cheap. But we did have a good experience so I would use them again. And the Thrifty line only grew longer as we were heading to our car. read more

first off, apparently in new orleans you need to provide another form of identification outside of Drivers License and Credit Card even if you checked in online (not listed as a requirement on the app). So that was a whole thing. Some back story, i've rented from alamo twice in the last 2 weeks and it's been smooth in chicago and atlanta where i've literally walked up to the auto kiosk, then went out to PICK my car and then a smooth drive out. this is a review for alamo NOLA. TERRRIBLEEE. no cars to choose from. waiting for over 45 minutes just to get a car...... ridiculous. I would've opted for a diff rental company if i knew this were the case. but seems like enterprise, national and alamo all include the same cars. Quick Update. Following my return home, I found that I had left an item in my rental, a rather important item to me. I found the Lost and Found section on Alamo's website, submitted a lost item ticket, and was contacted the very next day by a representative letting me know that they had located my item. As they were in NOLA and I was in Los Angeles, it was quite impossible to swing by to collect it. "We'll send it to you!" she told me. I asked how much that was going to run me, and to my surprise, she told me "No charge!" And I had the item delivered to my home, 2000 miles away, by noon the following day. Thanks, Alamo. This was terrible. There was a line of 12 people and it was taking forever to wait for our turn. And part way through a 35 minute wait 2 of the 3 workers taking customers went on break! It ended up being another 15 extra minutes. And service was not great. They even admitted it was for a break! I have rented cars and this location is only ok. The rental counter customer service people interact as if they could care less if you they are the first person you interact with the city because it is merely a job, same with the folks on the second floor. I have received cars with less than a full tank of gas and dirty and left a comment online to the Alamo customer service and NEVER heard a word. The employees have the attitude that they don't want to be there. NO SMILES. The ONLY positive I have had at this location was I had left my personal car keys in the rental car and Elaine with Lost and Found was so wonderful getting back to me about finding them. read more

Working with Alamo was a NIGHTMARE. DO NOT USE THEM. My friend who lives in PA reserved her car. Flew in to NOLA and went to pick it up. They rejected her because her license said New Orleans even though she moved to PA a few weeks ago. They wouldn't accept any evidence that she moved. No billing statements, rental agreement pdfs, nothing. You can't hide behind policy on this, that is deliberate stupidity. So then I drove over and used my PA license that I never updated when I moved here in order to get a car for her and add her as a second driver. Ironically, I actually live here, but their system would have accepted me, not her, because of what my license said. Unreal. Anyway, I couldn't rent a car without evidence I was flying somewhere later. So I bought an 18 dollar ticket to Chicago. FINALLY, passed all requirements. Or so we thought... Went to checkout and they required a card with a VISA logo. Okay, so my Mastercard wouldn't work, fine. I have a card with a VISA logo on it. But then they rejected it because it was a Cash App card even though it functions as a debit card at all other places and has the VISA logo they required. TLDR: she never got a car. Even did their "skip-the-kiosk" service do we could quickly head to our car and get going. When we got there, there entire garage was empty. There was one tiny car parked in the middle of a huge empty garage. We had to wait almost an hour for someone to bring us the premium SUV we ordered. Finally, they brought us a mini van (not what we ordered.) Such a frustrating experience. I will NEVER rent from Alamo again. Anywhere. We rented a car for a couple of days after our stay in New Orleans, in order to explore Lafayette and Baton Rouge. We reserved in advance, and went quickly through the rental line, and then went to get our car. Happily, there were no standard cars available, so we were given a small SUV. It was great, and we had no issue with that since gas prices are so low. Would highly recommend Alamo - especially at this convenient airport location. read more

ARGH. I found myself renting from Alamo for the THIRD time (as they were the cheapest and I was trying to save the governmentz monie$). A litte better. They were more attentive. Still they get an EPIC FAIL because they change $2.50 to be a part of their loyalty program. It's a bargain for a few hundred FF miles, but piece of crap, I can't think of another car rental company/hotel that charges for this "service." If I pay extra for a car seat during my online reservation, I expect the car seat to already be installed upon arrival. Or at the very least for a employee to assist with the installation. Just handing me a seat in a plastic bag and leaving when I have luggage and an infant is not helpful. read more

She explained the process and guided us through step by step on the rental and what we needed to do! It was a great relief that she was there and wanted to help us! Katrina, is amazing! We reserved ahead of time and I even called to check our reservation. We really needed to be quick because after flying with our toddler we still had a 2 hour drive ahead of us. Well at No point did they advise me that it was going to take an HOUR AND A HALF just to retrieve the vehicle. We stood in line with probably 30 people and my screaming toddler all waiting on cars in an empty parking garage. Jamal was very sweet and we could tell he was doing the best he could, but bottom line is he needed help and they absolutely should've had better staffing if they knew they had this many reservations. Also, no one seems to know the difference what's a toddler car seat and an infant car seat. They kept bringing me seats that were inappropriate/unsafe and didn't know what to look for when they went back to the room to pick one. read more

We thought we would just Uber or Lyft while we going to visit NOLA. But the price just to get from the airport to our hotel was as much as a rental. So, we walked down to the car rentals and Alamo had no line, so we decided to try them. It was super early and we were tired. I booked a car online went to the counter and the lady was very helpful. (I forgot her name...sorry.) We rented a Hyundai, but she gave us an upgrade to a SS Camaro!!! We had a blast driving it for the weekend and we were able to go where we wanted to without having to Uber/Lyft. Only down side, was when we got to the car we were able to start it, but could not find the key for 10 minutes. Instead of being in the cup holder it was in the driver seat tracks and blended right in (reason for the 4 star rating). Besides that, we would definitely rent from Alamo again. read more

I made a reservation for compact car,but they have only 6 or 7 full-size SUV in stock at parking lot that time, so we choose one of them and were upgraded to 2016 Chevy traverse free of charge at parking lot. I have been renting from Alamo for at least 6 yrs from various airport locations. Except a couple times, my experience with them has been consistently good at all locations. This MSY location was no different. Everything was smooth from check-in to car pickup to return and check out. My reservation was for a standard size vehicle but when I arrived at the garage, the employee told me they didn't have any standards. So they offered an upgrade to full-size. There were only 2 full-size vehicles available and luckily one was Hyundai Sonata which I liked for rental. Overall experience worthy of 5 stars. read more

I want to tell everyone HOW GREAT the people at your New Orleans office were when I left a valuable (personalized no less!) down jacket in my car. First I was able to get the local number from the national reservations desk, not always easy. Then someone actually answered! It was ELAINE IRWIN and she couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. The manager MR. BRETT A. LANDRY was also terrific! He got on the phone to help out as well, and personally delivered the jacket to the check-in counter, so that my friends who were flying out later could pick it up. I am so thankful to get back the jacket and frankly floored at the customer service I received from these two great employees. Needless to say I will use Alamo next time I am in NOLA!! read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. While in my small rental vehicle, I was rear ended at 55 mph by a large pickup truck that sent the car into a spin and it landed on its side. I don't recall airbags deploying on my side. My passengers and I were injured and taken to the hospital. I immediately reported the incident to Alamo, along with my insurance information, the police case number, and towing information the following morning. I was given a claim number and reassured this would be handled. I received a letter dated 3 days after the incident from Alamo acknowledging the accident and requesting a statement and insurance information provided to the Damage Recovery Unit. I obliged and provided that information (meanwhile am still recovering from a severe accident that wasn't my fault). Alamo called me about 3 and a half weeks after the incident wondering if I wanted to extend my rental. I told them I had no idea what they were talking about; I had reported the accident less than 24 hours after the accident and was given the claim number. The person I spoke to said going back through the records he saw that and would handle it. Not to worry, he said. Imagine my surprise when I checked my credit card statement and Alamo charged me for a MONTH of a rental-- over $1300! All without my authorization! That's credit card FRAUD and I intend to also report them to the Better Business Bureau. When I called the corporate office, they acknowledged they had never terminated the rental. Two days later (today) I received another phone call from the General Manager wondering why I never returned the vehicle because the contract was never terminated. They should be ashamed of themselves for making an already traumatic experience even worse. read more

Review update: after mostly good experiences recently with Alamo at MSY, my most recent experience was less than stellar. When I arrived, they had a single "premium" car, a Chevy Impala. It smelled of cigarette smoke that had been covered by air freshener. It wasn't what I'd call premium, but I guess it did do the job. I would likely have paid a little for an upgrade, but the agent was not interested in doing business with me when I asked. I rarely rent from Alamo now because their prices vary so wildly and there's no reward for loyalty to the company. read more
