**Extremely Disappointing and Stressful Experience with Alamo** On December 9, we picked up our rental car at the Miami Airport. About an hour into our drive toward Atlanta, while on the Turnpike, the vehicle began overheating. We immediately contacted roadside assistance. The only solution offered was an Uber back to the airport. Once there, we were told the only vehicle available was a van and that we should return the next day to receive a similar vehicle to the one we originally rented. We accepted the van temporarily, even though it was in very poor condition. It was not full of gas, it was dirty, and it even had holes in the roof. We accepted it only because we were told we would be able to exchange it the following morning. The next morning, we returned to the airport and were told there were no vehicles available. We were advised that we could exchange the van at any Enterprise or airport location along our route and that vehicles would be given to whoever arrived first. We went to the Enterprise next to the airport where there was a Suburban available, but we were told it was reserved and they refused to give it to us -- despite what we had just been told at the airport. As we continued our trip toward Tennessee, we repeatedly called various Enterprise and Alamo locations along the way. Sometimes we were told there were no vehicles available; other times we were transferred to customer service, who gave us the same answer -- no comparable vehicles available. We stopped in Nashville after customer service and roadside assistance told us that, since it was a larger airport, we would be able to exchange the vehicle there. They also said they would leave a note for the manager about our case. The next morning, we went to the Nashville airport and were told again that there were no vehicles available and that everything was rented out. That same afternoon we called again, and we were told another note would be left and that someone would contact us. We stayed in Nashville almost until nighttime waiting in case they called. No one ever did. We then decided to drive to Gatlinburg. For two days, we called at least three times per day trying to resolve the issue. On the second day around 4 PM, we were told to go to the Knoxville airport, about an hour away, because a vehicle would be waiting for us there. Driving that van was extremely uncomfortable and concerning -- it shook on the highway and the doors rattled constantly, even though we were not speeding. When we arrived in Knoxville, we were told there was no vehicle available and that no note had been received regarding our case. The only option offered was a pickup truck, which was not usable for us because we had multiple suitcases, several passengers, and two pets traveling by road. While still at the airport, we called customer service to clarify the situation. We were told they had already offered us a solution and that we were refusing it -- which was not true -- and they hung up on us. We had no choice but to leave. We then made a new reservation for the following day in Greenville for a similar vehicle to what we originally rented. When we arrived, they initially gave us obstacles when we explained it was a swap from the van, but eventually they provided the vehicle. When we returned to Miami and dropped off the car, the Alamo manager at the airport told us the only thing he could offer was a 50% discount. Since that seemed to be our only option at the time, we accepted. However, during the trip, customer service had told us that if we were not satisfied with the resolution in Miami, we should call them again. After several additional calls to customer service and being unable to speak with a manager, the only offer we received was an additional $100 discount. Now, nearly two months later, we have received an email stating that we must pay $470 for the Suburban that broke down on the way to Atlanta -- despite the fact that the mechanical issue was not our fault and we were driving responsibly on highways the entire time. This experience was extremely stressful, time-consuming, and disappointing. We spent days of our trip trying to fix a problem that was never our responsibility. The lack of communication, contradictory information between locations, and poor customer service made this one of the worst rental experiences we have ever had. Every time that you call them it would be at least an hour just talking to people and just being passed around . I would strongly reconsider renting from Alamo again. I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience with Alamo Rent A Car at the Miami S Beach Collins location (4332 Collins Ave, Miami Beach). I specifically reserved a Mustang Convertible for our trip. Upon arrival, the vehicle was not available and we were given a Toyota pickup instead. We were instructed by staff to drive to Key West and exchange the vehicle there. Unfortunately, when we arrived in Key West, the convertible was again unavailable. Since then, I have sent multiple follow-up emails requesting either the reserved vehicle or a reasonable rate adjustment reflecting the difference in vehicle class. To date, I have not received a proper resolution. I understand that availability issues can happen, but when a specific vehicle class is confirmed at booking, customers reasonably expect that commitment to be honored -- or at minimum fairly compensated when it is not. The lack of proactive communication and failure to provide a clear solution has been very disappointing and has negatively impacted our trip experience. I hope management reviews this matter seriously and improves how confirmed reservations are handled in the future. read more

I recently rented a car from Alamo Rent a Car and this is the story of my less than desirable experience. First of All, DO NOT RENT FROM ALAMO RENT A CAR! EVER My experience started once I arrived at the Alamo car lot and went to find the vehicle in the class that I had reserved. The vehicle class that I had reserved several weeks in advance was not available and there were no "Or Similar" vehicles available on the lot. I'm not sure what the purpose is of taking reservations if no effort is made by the rental agency, ALAMO, to hold or ensure the vehicle class that was reserved is available. Since I needed a vehicle and no upgrade was offered, I was forced to accept a lower vehicle class than what was reserved. This was immediately a problem due to the size of the vehicle, passengers and luggage that I was expecting to take on my trip. I would have expected that they would reduce my rate to the lower vehicle price but they did not offer to reduce the quoted rate either. My trip began in South Florida and after sunset I discovered the car that was provided had headlamp problems and was unsafe to drive after dark. I contacted Alamo customer service and they instructed me to go to the nearest airport to exchange the car for a vehicle that meets the safety and legal requirements for operation on the public roadways. I was majorly inconvenienced by this and had to make a 150-mile trip to Orlando, which was closer to me than Palm Beach at the time I noticed the problem, in the dark with no headlamps. Once I arrived at the Orlando Alamo location I was pleasantly surprised to find that there were vehicles in the vehicle class that I had originally reserved available at this location. I proceeded to check in with my defective vehicle and request a vehicle replacement in the class that I have originally reserved. At this time, I was given some song and dance by the attendant and was told that I could not have any vehicle within the class of vehicles that I have reserved because they would not be returned to the same location and they could not release the vehicle to be returned in Palm Beach. At this point I have a defective and unsafe vehicle and I need a replacement. The vehicle selection they provided to me was less than desirable and once again I had to take a vehicle from a lower class than I had reserved, expected, and needed for my trip. From this point forward every minute spent in this vehicle was unpleasant, cramped, crowded and all around uncomfortable. Alamo had every opportunity to make this situation right but would not do it, even when the situation presented itself, they did not do the right thing to make this right. To add insult to injury when I returned the car, they would not reduce the original rate of the higher-class vehicle but only offered to reduce the bill by $100 for a 10-day rental, which does not even cover the cost difference between the vehicle class paid for and the vehicle provided and was a Slap in the Face considering the inconvenience and danger that I was put through by Alamo Rent a Car. I rent cars many times throughout the year and based on this experience and I am not likely to ever rent from Alamo again, and I suggest you do the same. read more

SCAM ALERT: Fraudulent fuel charges and deceptive tactics at Alamo Miami "I rented a car from Alamo Miami on March 31, 2026, through Ofran, and it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. The process was long and exhausting. After they initially tried to downgrade my car to a lower category, I finally received the vehicle I ordered, but with the fuel tank only half-full. When I pointed this out to the staff, I was told: 'This is the new policy--take it half-full and return it half-full.' I kept my end of the deal and returned the car with more than half a tank. However, after returning home, I received a bill charging me for a full tank of gas. When I contacted Ofran to dispute this, Alamo shamelessly refused to admit their employee's deception and kept the money. Ofran ended up refunding me half the amount as a gesture of goodwill, but Alamo's behavior is nothing short of theft. My advice to you: 1. AVOID ALAMO MIAMI. They are dishonest and use predatory tactics to scam tourists. 2. If you are stuck with them, take a photo/video of the fuel gauge and the dashboard the moment you start the car and when you return it. They are liars and scammers. We rented a car during our trip and ended up getting upgraded from a compact to full-size because they were out of compact cars but I feel like all these car rental companies always upgrade you. We ended up getting a 2023 Nissan Altima which was clean and great on gas. Checking in and out was quick. We used our own ezpass, but we couldn't add the plate because it was already in the system, so hopefully, it read our tag instead of their plate because they charge $4/day plus toll when it reads a plate when passing through a toll. read more

We landed at 7:50 PM. Walked and trained over to the rental car center which took 30 min of dragging luggage through the MIA airport. Finally make it to Alamo and the line is 1 hour wait min. Had a reservation, couldn't skip the counter, but nobody could explain why, couldn't use the kiosk machines either. The wait is unacceptable. Walked out, took an Uber to south beach (where we were staying) and rented from Avis in south beach for 1/3rd the price of the airport rental. Gotta do better Alamo. Super happy with Alamo - not just because we got an incredible rate on a Jeep for 3 weeks in the Florida Keys, but because of their customer service. I left a pair of sunglasses in the car when we dropped off the Jeep at the airport and realized I did it when we were at the gate. This Alamo is located inside the rental car center of Miami Airport. I received fast and reliable service on a Thursday afternoon. I made a resevation online a few days of anticipation. When I arrived at the center, the personnel at the counter was fast in making the necessary transactions. They didn't press hard on selling anything extra. I got my receipt with a row number to retrieve the car. The process was easy. I just went to the garage and selected a car from the designated row. The cars were clean and in good condition. They had a good fleet of vehicles available. I don't know if it was luck but I got a relatively new car with only 7k miles. It was a very nice ride. read more

This was a first for us as we normally pick hertz, so it was a happy accident. It was a great service, I'll stay with Alamo and with us there's always a story. We had planned to be away over 6/7 weeks and American car hire was part of the plan but almost everything else was arranged save for flights to/from USA. It was a trip we had originally planned in 2020 that Wu flu interrupted. I had to add car hire to the flights from Dublin to make it a 'package' as by making it a package it made our car hire and air travel insured through Aer Lingus within the price via a travel agent just in case Wu flu caused us problems in 2022. So the travel agent had the tie in with Alamo. We only used a travel agent as we had to arrive in Los Angeles and depart from Orlando. So we reluctantly got off the NCL Bliss in Miami via the Panama Canal after 3 weeks and grabbed a cab that got us to Miami airport in about 15 minutes. The longest wait was at the Alamo queue in the Airport. It was about 15 minutes. They had 4 staff working that morning.I had already pre loaded my driving licence information to Alamo on line so once at the counter it was a breeze. I signed and initialed lots of bits of paper (same experience in an American dentist) and was directed downstairs to get the car. Now the staff here are efficient but there's no warmth or small talk. You get processed but you know you're not in Dublin. No craic. So downstairs it was. Showed the piece of paper to a chap equally efficient with minimal conversation who said 'pick any car in row 6, keys are in the car'. There was a great selection and I picked the perfect car for us as by this stage we had 9 large suitcases plus pull alongs. Drop off was Orlando a few weeks later. Now the Alamo folks there were real friendly folks as well as efficient. When they saw the pile of suitcases they arranged a porter for us. He was great too, brought us right to the Aer Lingus desk and offloaded our luggage to the check in staff for us. I rented a car at Miami International Airport and it took an hour to get the rental bus, which is actually not a rental bus mass transit because they have construction to the Alamo center. We had to be crushed in with hundreds of other people and their suitcases at 6 o'clock in the morning after getting those sleep on the flight, the Alamo transaction went great, but as we were leaving, they told us at 4 o'clock in the morning we would have to get in line for the rental bus back to the airport it could be one to two hour wait so I tried to return my rental car to the location here in Miami Beach and was towed as an absolute 800 additional charge even if it was a day early I will never ever use our rent a car again. We arrived in Miami at around 1am, and ended up waiting for our reserved car for 2 hours. Only one person was working the register and it was a miserable experience. We were asked if there were any notable defects with the car so we just told them what we noticed in the dark parking garage, which included some minor surface scratches and some gum. However, it was only later that we noticed the back seats had a copious amount of a mysterious brown substance that got on all our clothes and towels when we opted to sit on towels there instead. My daughter goes to UMiami and we go down frequently. We had a bad experience at a car rental in Miami the first time there, which was off premises. We then tried Alamo and each time we have gone down we now choose to use them. They are competitively priced, easy to rent and return and never get charged those extra unknown fees. In fact price has been reduced twice because we returned it earlier..or flight was delayed so picked up later. I wish I could remember her name but twice dealt with one of the managers who was terrific! Highly recommend. read more

I needed a rental car to pick up early on an afternoon, to be returned late the following evening. Since I'd had good luck with Alamo in another city a few months ago, I checked their rates for this rental as well, and found a price on the internet of $25 to rent from here with unlimited mileage (plus taxes and fees of $21 for a total of $46). I booked the car, and when I arrived at the Alamo counter at the Rental Car Center at Miami International Airport, I was the 3rd person in line. I was being helped within 5 minutes and once I gave her my license and credit card, she printed out the 2 page rental agreement, had me initial and sign the usual 1/2 dozen boxes, and that was it. I took the elevator down to the first floor where an attendant looked at my paperwork and welcomed me to pick out ANY vehicle from row 1, and as I made my way there, another attendant explained that I could also pick out any vehicle I'd like from row 2. Though I'd paid for I believe a midsize car, there was a Kia Soul available, which is more of a compact, boxy SUV. I chose that vehicle, the keys were in it, I drove to the exit where miss lady scanned my vehicle, rental agreement and drivers' license, and I was on my way! Simple! Returning the vehicle was easy. Just enter the Rental Car Center, follow the signs to Alamo on the 1st floor and follow the signage to the drop off area where an attendant will meet you with a handheld scanner, quickly look the vehicle over and verify the mileage and fuel level. Once done, he'll print out a receipt and you're free to go. read more

The worst experience ever. I rented a car a month in advance for my trip to Spain, and the day I was about to get on the plane, I received an email that my reservation has been cancelled. I immediately called the customer service to see what happened and to confirm I did not cancel my reservation. They didn't solve the issue, the only answer I got from them is that it was cancelled online and they were not able to undo it, or give me back the same car I rented. As a company, I would actually give a solid 4-star (discounts if you have a Costco membership and book through the Costco Travel website https://www.costcotravel.com/Rental-Cars); however, I have to take away 1-star for this particular Alamo location due to lack of explanation. To get to the Car Rental Center, you'll need to take either elevator or escalator to the 3rd level and follow the "Rental Car Center / Metrorail / Metrobus " sign until you've reached the "MIA Mover" monorail station. It was a bit of a walk getting from the Terminal D to the monorail station, so brace yourself. The car pick-up process was fine, but the lady who processed my paperwork didn't tell me things I should pay attention to (e.g. filling the gasoline tank before returning the car, rules for toll roads, etc). So you can imagine my bewilderment the moment I accidentally drove on a toll road and next sign I saw was "$100 penalty for vehicles failed to register". Heck, I almost fainted when I saw the sign and realized there was no way I could make a U-turn on a freakin highway. *** TOLL ROADS *** Luckily Alamo had a customer support email listed on the brochure and the staff immediately responded to my email within one hour (I sent out my question about 9~10 PM). In short, there is no penalty added since Alamo's cars are already on board with the toll pass system. The rate is $3.95 a day plus the amount of the tolls and Alamo will not charge more than $19.75 throughout the entire rental plus the amounts of the tolls. There is no device in the vehicle and it is pay by plate. Automatic pictures of the license plate of the car will be taken and then billed to the credit card (the toll fees took about 2~3 weeks to show up). *** I rented a NISSAN Versa Note and it was in a good condition during the entire trip (I survived my drive to/from Miami to Key West with this car). The only annoying part was the dashboard kept warning me about the low tire pressure. I actually drove to a gas station and pumped in more air, but few hours later the low tire pressure warning alert re-appeared again and in the end I basically just gave up. I would utilize the Alamo again, but don't forget to ask and check the Alamo's toll road policies because there are plenty of toll roads in Miami. read more

We rented a 15 person van for 6 days. We missed our flight and called Alamo to let them know we'd be picking up later than expected. We were told the van had ALREADY been given up and that they had no cars of any type on the lot. I was surprised since I understood the whole thing was paid for already. They said it wasn't, though they had our credit card on file. This was like that episode from Seinfeld, Alamo knows how to TAKE a reservation, they just don't know how to HOLD the reservation. I thought this was very unprofessional. I took my business elsewhere and got what we needed. Had we avoided Alamo from the get go, we could have avoided the whole bitter experience. We got absolutely no apology and not even the most minimum amount of concern, nor willingness to even try to help remedy the situation. read more

Can't believe the poor state of the vehicle we were given! It barely shifts through gears and after three days we were locked out and the car won't start. Alamo's customer service is horrible. We will be losing a whole day of our vacation trying to replace the vehicle as there is no Alamo nearby to replace this absolute CLUNKER that they let leave their lot. Save yourself the trouble and rent ANYWHERE ELSE. read more
