I have attached the photos from Diana, which show very clearly the extent of the damage. The reader can look at the photos and then the list of damages that were itemized and tell me if they think it warrants changing the tire, car door, etc. up to more than $5200!!! How can anyone think this is reasonable and defend themselves with a straight face? I also showed these pictures to two separate body shops which told me it would cost tops $500. It's nice of them to claim that they did nothing wrong while trying to make me sound like I am being unreasonable. Out of their own negligence they have caused this situation -- the sheer defensiveness of this response is astounding. To make it clear, there is nothing wrong with paying for damages, in fact that is what I have been trying to do and make easy for them but it is simply fraud and blackmail to do this to your customers. You can't be charging everything else to me so that you can make your car like new and sell it at auction. To be fair to them, they are only writing this to save their image to the public but the following has been communicated in private: "As per our conversation, i already communicated Alternative Claims that it will be a revised estimate. I also spoke with the manager from the body shop and He will be working on it today or early tomorrow. I will let you know once he concludes with the revision. Have a great day!" If you make a mistake, you have to admit it not just in private but to everyone else. Lastly, here is the last message from Diana in private 8 days ago. I only wish that they can continue the process in good faith as I do not find the message that was written here in good faith. "the estimate was revised, corrected, and sent to Alternative Claims to continue with the process. Please contact them directly to get all the information you need for your insurance. If you received an email from them, please use that contact information because it should have the name of the person who is handling this claim. Have a great day!" The claims company have not contacted me regarding any updated list of damages. I am turning over all this to my insurance and let God deal with them. I do not wish to get into a protracted legal dispute and hope the matter will be resolved fairly and with justice. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Please see attached photos for itemized bill. These people are Frauds. They need to go to jail. Tried to bill me $5,293.75 for a small dent on the back of the car. I kid you not. For a small dent around the side of a human palm at the right back bumper of the car. Talked to an auto shop guy and he told me this job would have been $300 at most. I made a dent when I reversed (very slowly I need to add) into a barricade I couldn't see from the side mirror and rear camera at a gas station. The bill includes changing the tire, door repair, and so on, I kid you not. See the pics. Because Hector was so nice when I rented the car and I was in a rush to catch my flight I trusted these guys and didn't take a photo. I even chased after them via multiple emails and calls across the country to try to help them resolve this issue quickly. To my shock, I landed a bill for $5000?! It's a total joke and travesty. All communication is now being made public and submitted to the relevant parties. The manager Diana does not pick up the phone, does not return calls. Luis (not Jose) the other staff member is similarly irresponsible and does not call customers when he promises to. These people do not reply emails, do not read their emails. They want your money, that's it. Hector is nice but when I told him about this, told me "Insurance is paying" FRAUDS! then stopped responding to my messages and said "Diana is the manager". Keeps asking for nice reviews on Yelp.... All the good reviews come from this sleazy asking for reviews without actually being good at what they do. See attached pics for evidence on the fraudulent bill and other relevant docs. These people need to go to jail. I should have stuck with a large and reputable company. Fortunately I have all the receipts so your bad deeds and schemes to cheat honest people and insurance companies are coming to light. TO the manager and owners: you will get what you deserve. We initially rented a small SUV thinking it was good enough to fit my mom's electric scooter (she has trouble walking) and the luggage for the four of us but after we loaded everything up we realized it wasn't going to fit. So back we went to the rental desk to get a larger car but before we had made it back to the desk they had already set up the paperwork for us to get the larger minivan for the same price (even though it should have been higher). We're no stranger to renting cars and have done so in multiple states and countries. Our experience hasn't always been the best so I tend to have anxiety about renting cars. I hate the pressure to get extra things, I hate when we're given bigger cars and then later dinged with extra fees so that our overall cost is more than we anticipated. I decided to go with Family Auto Rental based on the multiple positive reviews on Yelp and because their prices were competitive with bigger chains at the Rental Car Center (RCC). Our initial impression was rocky. Family's counter is the smallest at RCC, so there was one employee working and the people in front of us were taking forever to decide what they wanted to rent. Then when it was our turn, the guy helping us apologized right off the bat for the wait (almost thirty minutes). Then he offered to give us a bigger sedan and said he understood what it's like traveling with children. I braced myself for more charges and pressure to get their insurance, etc. but he continued to be patient and gracious. He accepted our complete coverage insurance without any questions and noted that we'd be using our E-ZPass for the tolls. No pressure to agree to have the RCC fill up our car, stating plainly it'd be much cheaper to fill up at the gas stations near the RCC. He also assured me that the price I paid when making my reservation would be the same final price we could expect if everything went smoothly. Got a Toyota Camry hybrid. Car was clean and great given the mileage. We drove everywhere, even down to the Keys, and only had to fill up once. Upon returning it, the employee helping us even offered to retrieve a nearby luggage cart to help us out. Lastly, like the first gentleman said, the price I paid was the price our card was charged. If we're ever in Miami again, Family will be our go-to choice for car rentals. read more

While our experience was typically satisfactory, there are two man drawbacks that knocked off several stars. The first is that reserving a car online doesn't actually reserve it. Sure, you clicked all the buttons and provided the credit card info. You even received an e-mail that says 'your reservation.' BUT you have to call the rental company to confirm the reservation. And if you don't call within a predesignated timeframe, they reserve the right to cancel your reservation. But apparently they won't tell you that they've cancelled it. You have to call. So there's nothing better than lying down after a three hour flight and then realizing that the e-mail with the subject line 'your reservation' reveals this little tidbit to you. Finding out that my 'reservation' wasn't exactly a reservation led me to the second reason I'm knocking off three stars: Victor. Ohh, Victor. He answered the phone, and after explaining the situation to him, replied 'oh so you failed to confirm. Okay, I'm gonna look into this and send you an e-mail in 10 minutes, okay?' 'Buuut, why can't we just do this over the phone.' 'I'm gonna e-mail you in 10 minutes.' Surprise, surprise. That e-mail didn't materialize. And then when I called back 15 minutes later, Victor said he was with a customer. '10, 15 minutes.' No, bud. I'm gonna stay on hold until this is hammered out. So I waited on hold. 5, 10, 15, 20 minutes. And then I was disconnected. So I called back. 'This is Victor I'm putting you back on hold' click. Disconnected after 10 minutes. This happened once more before it took. 20 minutes later. 'Okay so you forgot the Sunpass, please hold.' Then disconnected. I call back. Victor 'I just sent you an e-mail confirming the reservation.' Thank you, Victor. You've been the pinnacle of customer service. An absolute gem. There should be a wall with 'employee of the month' on it and they should all be Victor. That said, despite the sleazy, slimy experience I had having to confirm my own reservation and having to deal with the Victor, the proverbial Gandalf saying 'you shall not pass!' the rest of the rental went swimmingly. The front staff was courteous and efficient; the rental itself did well and we returned it with no issues. That said, this 'confirming the reservation' is bupkus. It's clearly a way to lull people into a false sense of security only to bull the rug out from underneath them for additional cash. If they were really serious about 'confirming the reservation,' they would not have the customer do this - there would be a dedicated agent to confirm these reservations. And Victor - you are arrogant, rude, and condescending. I hope you figure out whatever it is you need to figure out to treat people with respect. read more

Recently I've used FAMILY Auto Rental services. To say that I was disappointed is to say nothing. I was okay to get a car with external dirt, this something that can be understood due to the dust and whatsoever. However, when there is a trash and dirty interior - that's over me. This is the worst quality to price experience I've ever had. The pictures are attached to this message, and they don't describe even a half of the mess that was in the car . I can't say the same about the people from the reception, who were very nice and gave me very good impression, but the people who take care about the cars are just careless. I have no a single wish to recommend this business to anyone or use it ever again. UPD: In the direct messages the owner of the business has told me that that the reason the don't do the job they have been paid for is because "we are super busy and people downstairs skip the vacuum process" and started to ignore my messages. I have always used Alamo but after seeing all the great yelp reviews for Family Auto, I figured I would give them a try. I have to admit, I was hesitant to use a smaller "off-brand" car rental place because I have heard horror stories about those places where you have to take a shuttle to another location away from the airport and then all kinds of other issues ensue. That said, this place is conveniently located actually at the airport next to all the other larger companies. I tried to make a reservation on their website, but it was not working, so I had to call. The guy I talked was nice and I was able to make my reservation. One thing to note, even if you make a reservation online, evidently you need to call and confirm (at least this is what I gather from reading other yelp reviews). Another little hiccup was that the price quoted to me over the phone was more than the one online...but this was because Sun Pass was included over the phone. I asked for it to be removed and it was (as we did not need it). FYI, Family Auto takes a $500 deposit. This is definitely more than most other rental places (however, it is returned when you return the car in one piece). No issues there. We returned the car before they opened in the morning and just left the keys in a locked box, very easy. I requested a car with low miles and the owner, Ricardo, was nice enough to arrange that. Overall, I'm 100% satisfied and will definitely use them again. Very positive experience. read more

We were charged $80 for a loose hubcap that went missing during our use of the rental. We barely drove the car and were baffled when we noticed the missing hubcap. After speaking with management; they removed the charge and understood that since we didn't hit anything it must have been loose to begin with. We rented a car on February 25th, and picked it up around 3pm. We paid in cash for the rental, and left a $500 cash deposit. The guy that was outside who pulled the car up for us did the walk around and then we got in the car to leave. Once we had gotten to the highway, I began to cough and my skin began to itch. I told my husband and he stated "probably because it smells like smoke in here" - I am highly allergic to smoke and it was hard to breath. I immediately google mapped a car wash and we took it there, and paid out of pocket for an interior cleaning. We are not confrontational people, so we didn't call the agency, and we also had an event we had to get to right away, so we took the car to get washed and were on our way. On March 1st when we brought it back - I went to the restroom while my husband was returning the vehicle, and when I got back to the counter, I comet o find out that they are refusing to give us our full deposit back because they are accusing US of smoking in the car! Neither my husband NOR I are smokers, and again I am HIGHLY allergic to smoke, aside from that my father DIED from lung cancer and I would NEVER touch them! The guy at the desk was extremely rude and had this smug look on his face the whole time as to say "haha I'm keeping your money" - and kept sending us in circles back downstairs, if we wanted to deal with it (and then those people would send us back upstairs to him). We got the manager of the place on the phone who only agreed to reimburse us $400 which they took taxes out of anyway!! I had a panic attack right there in the airport from all of the stress caused. I am entitled to my FULL $500 back and that needs to be provided at this point. You need to do the right thing. I will be posting this review everywhere I know, because there is NO PROOF that we smoked in the vehicle and we are NON SMOKERS. Horrible customer service! Beware! If you reserve a vehicle, you still may not get it when it is time to pick it up. For two weeks or so, I had a CONFIRMED reservation for a van to move my daughter up to college. The day before I was to pick up the van to confirm again. I was told the van was rented that day but would be back at 10:00 a.m. the next day. The next day I called again after 10:00 a.m. and was told to call back after 12:00 p.m., because they give their customers an extra 2-hours as a courtesy. I called again after 12:00 p.m. and was told the van still wasn't back. At this point, I was getting upset, because I had a reservation for that day. I asked for a manager, and she came on to tell me she would call the person who had rented it the day before to see if they would be bringing it back. I held for a while, and then she told me the customer wanted to keep it an extra day. I just couldn't understand how that would be okay, when I had a confirmed reservation for that van. Again, I was told as a courtesy they allow customers to extend extra days, if needed. I told her I could see that being a courtesy, if the vehicle wasn't already reserved for someone else, because you are extending "as a courtesy" but inconveniencing another customer. She then asked me if I had paid for the van, and I told her I had put my credit card info online when I reserved. She tried to argue that is not paying for it. If it isn't, then what is??? I was so frustrated by now and hung up. The manager called me back in a few minutes to tell me that she called the other customer, and to "help me out", he would bring it back between 11:30 pm and midnight. What?!? I was to just wait until midnight, and maybe he wouldn't bring it back, and I needed to pack the van and drive 3.5 hours and be in Orlando by 8:00 a.m. I told her, "Thanks, but no thanks." I am just glad I did not drive from Fort Lauderdale to Miami to pick up this van without calling, because I would have been really surprised. I ended having to make 50 calls to find a van at the last minute, but thank goodness I was able to find a better, brand new, van to rent. Never again will I deal with one of these sub-standard rental companies. ***I will await the negative response from "Ricardo A." from Family Auto, who responds to the posts here. Rather than apologizing for THEIR error, he will probably call me a "Lior" also (apparently he can't spell "liar"). If not, perhaps he will try to claim I did not have a confirmed reservation, like they did on the phone, and the reservation email clearly stated "Confirmed" with a confirmation number. We were a little sketched by the small car rental shop (especially since it's located right between Enterprise and Hertz), but we eventually decided to make a leap of faith and it was worth it. My group were all under 25 hrs old (my bf turns 25 next week) and instead of getting charged a fee for being under 25 like all the other car rental places (25$ a day at enterprise) it's a security deposit that will be refunded if we don't damage the car. This is the best rental you can get. The price is absolutely affordable for the type of car you get. I have reserved the car and got a rep who wasn't very pleasant to deal with. Her name is Olivia, she told me that they don't have the car I reserved. I went to another rep by name Luis, who was very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. He got me the car that I have booked, even the other rep told me they don't have it. Of course that one person left bad taste in my mouth, but thanks to Luis, he made my day and trip to Miami was easy. I had originally booked a car with Hertz and upon arriving at the rental car center, I find out that Hertz can only put me in a minivan. Not wanting to ruin my South Beach cred, I opted to cancel my reservation and seek out better wheels. I walked over to Family (just next to Hertz) and they were immediately able to get me in a car and charge me less than my original reservation with Hertz. I also appreciate that the guy explained that I wouldn't need a particular type of insurance because my credit card would cover it. Over at Hertz, the rep got salty when I turned down the insurance. I wasted time going to Fox only to learn that the Expedia offer did not disclosure all fees. Worse was the rude attendant at Fox who sent me to the auto center. A foolish young man, full of himself who didn't think I could be a good repeat customer. I would up with a 7 day Rental of a Nissan with unlimited mileage and Unlimited Sunpass for $170 with no hassle about my collision coverage through my American Express card and my existing liability coverage through GEICO. Looking for a review on this car rental place? STOP! TRUST ME when I tell you this is the BEST car rental company I have EVER dealt with. I took a chance using Family Auto after reading multiple positive reviews on them on YELP. I decided to go with them not only because of the reviews but because I needed to rent a car for a week and was on a tight budget. Plus I had recently traveled to New York and am permanently traumatized by the toll bills I received. Family auto has an option to rent cars with a toll pass included!!! Saved the day. Don't let the dark parking garage photo of their cars scare you (Because I was concerned) their cars are in Fantastic condition, run well, and are new year vehicles. The customer service at the front desk was phenomenal, the garage attendant was too. Easy pick-up - no lines (I hate waiting in line) and easy drop-off key option if dropping a car off in the middle of the night! I have never said this before, but I WILL rent from Family EVERY time I visit Miami. My vehicle was clean and ran great. I was so hesitant to use them because they were not a national chain name. We decided to go with Family Auto Rental because of their reviews. We're so glad we did! When we arrived to rent the car there was only one person in front of us. The other car rental places had huge lines of people who looked miserable from waiting. The clerk at the counter was very friendly and told us where to go to get our car. The attendant who brought the van to us was very friendly and helpful. He went over some of the details of the van and told us to call the company if we encountered any problems or issues with the van. The van we rented was a Dodge caravan. It was clean and ran very smooth. There was plenty of room for the five of us and our luggage. The whole rental process from the time we got in line until we drove away took about 25 minutes. Returning the van was just as easy. We definitely recommend them and would use them again if we ever return. read more

I heard horror stories from other conferences attendees that used the big name car rental services. Hour and a half in line to rent a car?? I am an organizer and a researcher and found them. I reserved online and I can tell you that it took me 10 minutes from the time I walked up to the counter and the time I left in the car. When I returned the rental it was 5 minutes. At the Miami airport, after waiting in the slowest line at Budget where I had my reservation for 20 minutes, a line of about 20 that wasn't budging, I decided to look around at some other rental agencies that had no line. I went to Enterprise but they were sold out of the two cars we were renting with Budget, and the Enterprise folks told us to go to Family, that they were very good. Josmy took care of us and couldn't have been any nicer or more accommodating. He price matched Budget, gave us a SUPER nice Expedition, helped my daughter and husband get her Camaro convertible for the price of a convertible Bug, and processed both rentals efficiently, professionally and with the warmest personality! We felt very well taken care of and were out with our cars before the Budget line had budged. Budget had only two people working and seemed to take an inordinate amount of time for each customer.
