Came across this place upon a happy accident. Was driving down 580 heading towards Tahoe with the bf when my battery light turned on on my scion tc, then brake light, and ABS light. We exited asap and yelped this place as the nearest car shop. My car shut down right before we could reach the shop, luckily just a parking lot away. Without hesitation Alan and his son came out to jump start our car so we could get to the shop. Turns out the alternator needed replacing. Anywhere else and they probably would have given us the run around and made us wait, but Alan helped us real quick. He told us the problem, gave us the estimate, got our car in right away and had us back on the road within the next hour. Customer service was exceptional. Price was very reasonable. Service was completed within good time. Might have taken longer than an hour, but with their wifi access, our laptop and a smartphone we didn't even notice. Unprofessional is a word that comes to mind. I called them for a quote for a service and a tire change on my bike several days ago. Gave the women on the phone all my information and was told I would receive a callback shortly. I got a call back at the very end of the day asking me for my bikes information, I had provided this 6 hours earlier. No big deal, give her the information, again, and was told I would get a call back shortly... Again. No call. I call back the next day and no one picked up. In their defense it was at 12:30ish so they probably were at lunch. So here we are, another day later and no call. Call them AGAIN and same lady picks up. She is very nice btw. Let her know my name and that I called a couple days ago asking for a quote, never Recieved a call back, and was wondering if they had that quote ready. She places me on a quick hold, ask for my number AGAIN... my motorcycle information...AGAIN and tells me they will call me back.... AGAIN. Seriously? 3 times I've provided this, are you throwing it away when we're done talking? If you're to busy to receive new business let me know, I can understand that. Don't work on my brand of motorcycle, totally fine. But please, there is no excuse to waste my time, especially when I'm trying to give you business. You wouldn't appreciate it if I did it to you. I needed Smog on my very clean car, and their technician was not able to connect his equipment to my car. He told me his hand-held could but not the smog machine. I verified the next day that my scanner connected fine. Obviously his smog machine was intermittent. He was so rude and said he could not do my car, as he had seven others (this is after they gave me a return appointment). He said "when I say I don't want to do it then I don't want to do it, its my license". I had not pressured him in any way, I just stood there listening. They are rude and don't really care about their customers. I took it somewhere else and it passed immediately. I will never recommend these idiots to anyone. read more

I was looking to get some Viking saddlebags installed on my bike. Probably called 8 different shop throughout Tracy, Livermore, and Hayward. None of these shops picked up the phone, would always go to voicemail or worst of all not even call me back for a quotation. I found this place on Yelp to begin with and I'm glad I did. I stopped by one day to see the shop and talk to the guys there to get a feel on setting an appt. for my bike. I left with a good feeling so I called later and set an appt. to have some 12" apes installed on my Harley Davidson. This is a tedious job to say the least and takes some skill to do right, and they came through will excellent work! Very reasonable pricing and delivered on time as promised. They took one look at the car and called me to tell me that they wouldn't recommend purchasing it and that it wasn't worth my time to pay for an inspection. Alan was nice enough to spend a great deal of time getting my son a low price on a new key that had to be programmed, and parts for his car. Heading home to Salt Lake City from a family road trip to the Bay area the front end on our van started shaking. It was around 6 pm so we found a room for the night. I looked on Yelp as I often do for the best possible shop I could find. We showed up as they were just getting started for the day. Within 10 min they had diagnosed the problem and gave me a price and time frame. Allan's son gave us a ride in to town where we ate lunch and went to a movie. We called them back after our movie and Allan drove our van to pick us up. My car broke down near the Dumbarton Bridge recently, and it was towed to a service center in Menlo Park. I got weird vibes about the place from the beginning, and I was told that my car would cost at least $700 to fix. I decided to tow the car to Alan and Sons in Livermore instead, as I always used them when I was growing up and have always found their service to be exceptional. Ultimately, they were able to fix my car quickly for less than half of what the other place asked for, and the staff couldn't have been more courteous or polite. Had a problem with PS High pressure hose (leaking), and my regular auto shop was booked a few days, so took it to Alan and sons. Quick diagnosis, agreed to get the hose from parts supplier in a day, fixed it promptly, fixed a few other issues without charging extra ( trunk remote lever was disconnected, had idling engine stop issue). I called Alan and Sons on a Saturday morning and they were able to take care of us that same day. We had recently purchased a used vehicle and it was having some issues. Victoria was SO nice and helpful and took care of us and our car which thankfully was an easier repair. On top of that we got an estimate for another vehicle we have which came in at less than half of the original quote I received from another place! You can bet I will be returning with this vehicle shortly. They are so nice, honest, and I immediately had a feeling of comfort from the first phone call to the in person visit. I needed new tires on my H-D. Called dealer and several other places. Quotes were $600-800 everywhere. Stumbled on Alan and Sons by accident. Called Victoria at the front desk. Gave her same brand tire sizes as H-D and other places. She quoted close to what they did, but then said she thought she could get them lower. DID SHE!!! Yes after tire cost and labor Alan and Sons got it done for $200 less then anyone else. Alan took time to come out and explain to me how to break in new tires(since this was my first bike). I've been to Alan and Sons a couple of times now. The first time was pretty uneventful, but I remember leaving with a good impression, so I decided I'd go back when I needed something again. The second time I went in, it was because my car just stopped starting. The car was in the shop for a couple of weeks, which seemed like a bit of an overkill at first, but the problem turned out to be more complicated than we'd anticipated. To further complicate things, after fixing the initial problem, the battery just stopped charging, which seemed unrelated to whatever was going on earlier. This was discovered as I was literally on my way to pick up the car. The next day they replaced the alternator, but, because it wasn't part of the initial agreed repairs, they didn't charge me for any piece of that. Excellent shop. I highly recommend. read more

I have been going to Alan and Sons for a few years. I have never been disappointed. A few months back I brought in my old but faithful 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis. I wanted it serviced and some other non-essential things done to it. I knew they were expensive but this car with 170,000 miles never breaks down. Alan after doing just the essential maintenance such as an oil change, radiator flush told me not to do the other things. He told me that the small oil leak I had was the kind that require pulling out the engine. He said it would cost about $1000.00 just for that repair and just was time I replaced the car soon. The other non essentials things I wanted done he could have done them and I would gladly of paid. Alan said do not waste your money with those type of repairs. I do not know personally another repair shop who would have done that and just run up the bill. What a great group of people. Family run business with competitive prices. Highly recommend them. My friend recommended Alan and Sons to me - have had a couple small jobs done there - seemed genuine and fair and did a good job. However, today I am compelled to write the BEST REVIEW EVER for them! My (new) Kia was accidentally driven over a concrete parking barrier by my permitted driver (lesson learned). It was stuck and had pulled the plastic bumper out of shape so there was no way to just roll it back over without doing massive damage. I called Alan and Sons and asked them to call a tow truck to bring the car to them so they could look at it and make sure it was okay. Victoria said she'd call me back as soon as she got a tow company lined up. She called back and said there was a tow truck ready to come, but her Dad wanted to come look at it to see what could be done so I didn't necessarily have to pay for a tow. He was there in about 5 minutes, was able to bend the front plastic bumper back into shape, lift the car up so it could roll back over the barrier without doing any damage, checked around the car and said it looked like it was good to go. How much did they charge? $0!!! That's right absolutely nothing. When I asked what I could give him, he just said, "Your business". Done and done! Our Honda Shadow motorcycle was suffering from some serious mechanical problems. We contacted Alan and Son's in Livermore and although his motorcycle repair caters more to the Harley Davidson business, when I called he was more than willing to look at our Honda. He told us to bring it in and he would see what he could do. He was courteous and professional and gave us an estimate that we were very comfortable with. Upon further examination he determined that it would be best to replace the complete motor. He stated that a new motor would probably cost less than replacing parts... He researched online and found a used Shadow took the working parts, including the complete motor with only 1700 miles on it, replaced our motor, shocks and anything else that needed replacing. Not only did he do all this, he also stayed within his original estimate. We got our bike back within a couple of weeks and it run's better than ever. If you live in the Tri Valley area and have trouble finding someone that can or is willing to work on your Motorcycle, please give Alan and Son's a call you will not regret your decision. read more

I recently bought a used truck and took it to a few places to have the brakes checked. I ended up choosing to have the work done at Alan and Sons because they gave me the most information about what exactly was wrong with truck, discussed with me various ways to fix the problem, and gave me an estimate that was fair. I was also happy that the truck was going to be worked on by Alan who used to work at a Mercedes dealership repair shop, so I expected his work to be top notch. They got all the work done very quickly and the truck seems to be running well. There was only one small issue that came up when I picked up the car, and Alan's son fixed it right away. This is a family business and they do personal service and I enjoyed talking to Alan about everything from the truck, to our mutual friend who referred me, to fitness. Then, I went to Alan and Sons and after taking a look, I was told my car was in great shape, with only a few issues. Their service was fast and honest. I only had to pay $180. The reviews are true, Alan & Son's is great. They buck the stereotype about mechanics and honesty. I took my car in to diagnose a strange sound and for brake service. The mechanics diagnosed the noise to be something minor and gave me suggestions for repair. They inspected my brakes and alerted me that I needed my front brakes replaced while the back, only needed an adjustment. I doubt other mechanics would be this honest, given the opportunity to pad a repair bill. I highly recommend Alan & Son's, and suggest you support this local family owned business as well. read more

Brought my Mercedes R500 to get the transmission fluid and filter replaced. They were extremely quick, about an hour and a half, and were more than half the cost of the Mercedes dealer. They also fixed my mirror glass at no extra charge. I will definately be back. read more
