Today was my first time taking my car to a mechanic that wasn't referred by family as I wanted something closer to home. My car needed inspection for general wear and tear and of course I turned to Yelp to find places here in Livermore that had the best reviews, R&C was it. Sophie was very helpful from the beginning when I first called. She checked in with me the night before to confirm that I was coming in the next morning. She let me know I would be meeting Dave and after my car had been looked at, she'd reach out with suggestions on things to replace. The turn around time from dropping my car off to having everything replaced was very fast! Dave did an excellent job in getting everything done quickly and efficiently. He was very friendly and knowledgeable and gave suggestions for a couple more things for next time. I appreciate him not pilling everything on at once as car maintenance can get expensive depending on what's needed. I've been to R&C Auto Service twice now. The first time was for my friend's 2008 Honda which needed the AC fixed. She'd taken it to 3 other shops (not local to here) and gotten a wide range of very expensive quotes. When I borrowed her car while she was on a trip, I decided to give R&C a try, since my favorite local mechanic (Skip's Auto, where I went for ~20 years) had closed. The guys at R&C did an excellent job! Not only did they fix the AC (needed a new compressor), they found several issues that the other mechanics who checked out the car missed, some potentially serious. They fixed everything (the AC, rear struts, new hoses, fluids, etc) for *less than* the lowest quote she received for the AC alone! Her car has running running great since then. Last week, I took my brother's 2006 BMW in. It needed for routine maintenance and was running a bit rough. Again, they did a thorough check, found and fixed all the issues and got the job done by noon the day after I dropped it off! We were impressed, given the amount of work they did. The front desk is also excellent: friendly, efficient and very clear the work to be done, at better prices than I've found elsewhere. I highly recommend them! read more

We've been a loyal customer for years but was very disappointed with our last appointment. 1) They called the day before drop-off (scheduled a week in advance) and said they had to reschedule because technician was sick. 2) We were pushed out another week. 3) Drop-off at 9 and around noon, they called to tell us to pickup truck that they wouldn't install after market headlights! We had already told them they were aftermarket headlights. Also they were the people who installed the current aftermarket headlights (one side broken but both sides needed to be replaced because of how system works). They could have simply told us beforehand and we wouldn't have even bothered to wait. What a waste of time! Time to find another mechanic shop. read more

A++++ service for the R&C staff. Took my Jeep here to get my car checked out and was hit on some major repairs which i already expected. Staff was honest and quoted me the price and had the repairs done. Picked up my car and after a few minutes of driving it my check engine light suddenly came up. Called R&C and immediately dropped my car back to them. They apologized and did whatever they could to make it right. Great shop. They were very professional and quoted me a fair price. They were able to correctly diagnose my electrical issue and explain exactly what went wrong before I brought it in. Responding to owner's comment :When i dropped off my car in the morning then I double checked on the price and i was told it will be $85 plus taxes. The issues is not 10-15$ but when you confirm a price with a customer, you cant overcharge him. Plus Kia dealership always run a promotion where they give $15 off and they include free car wash. And i never said you charged me more than dealer. I said you charged me pretty much the same price. I went for an Oil change and was quoted a price over the phone. The price was quoted after sharing my car details. But When I picked up my car, after the service then I was charged a 15% higher price. They charged me a dealer price for an oil change service. I went to them because of their service and was super disappointed with the overall experience. The front desk guy was also very rude and was blaming me for the price change. Sophie and Dave are great! Dave worked on my 2019 Highlander twice in the past couple of years. The first time was to replace a sensor in the engine. I dropped off my car 1st thing in the morning and got it back by noon. Sophie quoted the cost and time. The work was done in the time they estimated and the cost was very reasonable. The 2nd time was to replace all 4x of the brake rotors, in October 2023. I had the brake rotors replaced juat a year prior, by another local shop, and the SUV would shitter/vibrate when braking at mid to low speeds. Dave recommended a specific brand of rotors and Sophie quoted a very reasonable price. I dropped off my car 1st thing in the morning and it was done shortly after 1:00pm. I love R & C service. My car is a lexus which has specific router for specific side. So my car kept giving squeezing sounds. I have went to the service, and they did their best found issue and help me resolved issue. It is a ticky situation of my car, but they nailed it down and give peace back to my ears when i am driving. Price is also decent. Needed a brake change for my Audi! Don't let the car fool you though. While I may own an Audi, I don't have Audi money. R&C accommodated that and offered affordable and reliable brakes in a timely fashion! They offered to get my car serviced quickly. I started with a Yelp quote (which was quickly responded to), but had to follow up by phone later. They were able to keep true to their quote, which was great given they hadn't even seen the car yet. After Mercedes-Benz dealership asked for almost 300 buchs for break oil flush and refill top of fluids. I took my car to R & C , arrangement was super easy. after they checked, they said break fluid is very clean and good and I will l waste money to pay for flushing it and refill, and they refill all fluids and didn't charge me a dime . I insist to pay for refill, but they said , that's part of gratitude they do for all clients regardless of service. Five stars for R&C! I had an issue with my tire this week and was on a tight time schedule to get some Boy Scouts out on a campout. The big tire store next-door couldn't help me for two hours. Luckily, I found R&C next-door. David was very gracious and efficiently got my truck up in the air to inspect all the tires and changed out the bad one for the spare and had me on the road in less than 20 minutes. I read the comments/reply from Sophie and the owner. It's always best to take responsibility for poor service. It's how you stay in business. I left my vehicle there for 1 day ( I thought). I commute for work and can't have a call informing me that there's no mechanic so it will be 4-5 days. A snorkel has nothing to do with my dissatisfaction. If you return the vehicle with no horn, etc. that's a problem. Leaving it with you again for who knows how long is not acceptable. Had there been an apology and acknowledgement of the inconvenience of renting a car a second time because you don't provide good service- this review would not have been posted. read more

They have never tried to "up-sell" me repairs or extras. Another thing I appreciate about this shop is their communication. If you ask when they think your car will be finished, they will give their best time estimate and call to keep you in the loop should things change. I brought my 2010 Toyota Prius Gen 3 for some 120k maintenance - hybrid battery check, inverter coolant change, cabin filter change and inspections of other areas. Scheduling was done through yelp messaging and I was able to be seen during the week when the hybrid tech would be in. Great! Easy online scheduling is always a plus for any business in my book, especially since phone scheduling is quickly becoming obsolete. I received a quote through yelp very soon after I put in a request and I ended up paying exactly what I was quoted. The problem was that my partner dropped my car off for me while I was at work. There was some confusion when I spoke to the front desk staff member on the phone when my car was ready, who I later found out was new and not quite well-versed on lingo yet. He told me that my hybrid battery was not checked. I was disappointed and confused as to why I paid the original quoted amount if a key portion of the work was not completed. Sophie, the office manager, was quick to explain (via yelp messaging) that there was a misunderstanding and my hybrid battery WAS indeed checked using the obd2 diagnostic system, and no codes had popped up. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical and asked for a copy of the report. When Sophie explained that it isn't possible to print one out, she offered for me to come in the next day to see it being done with my own eyes. My check engine light came on later that day (a day after being seen at R&C Auto). My skepticism grew. I messaged Sophie and she agreed to help me get to the bottom of the cause of the check engine light coming on. Could it possibly be related to the work I had done the day before? Anyway, I went in and saw the diagnostic being performed with my own eyes. The mechanic was nice and accommodating. I took a photo of the screen. This made me feel better, but as someone with very limited knowledge of cars, I couldn't help but feel like something wasn't right with the situation. The P0401 code popped up - EGR valve. The mechanic and Sophie both helped explain to me exactly what that meant and reassured me that my car was safe to drive in until it could be properly diagnosed and looked at later that week. I made an appointment to be seen again at R&C Auto in about 5 days. I ended up working with Toyota to find out this is covered through my extended warranty and will have repairs done through them. Otherwise, I would have trusted R&C Auto to help with my car's repairs. In the end, the responsiveness and honesty of this shop really reassured me that they do honest work and what I experienced was a true coincidence. Their prices are hard to beat and they are very accommodating, you are even able to drop your car off the evening before service. As someone who has very limited knowledge about cars, I still recommend you do your own research before going in to get work done at ANY shop, but R&C Auto will educate you and ensure you understand what is happening every step of the way. In my case, it was truly a coincidence that my check engine light came on the day after my car was serviced. read more

I've waited 2+ years to write this review. This is my go to mechanic and I've had 3 cars over the years serviced here. The front desk and mechanic are responsive, honest, and very reasonably priced. Late last year, my Jeep encountered the dreaded cylinder 2 misfire. R&C spotted it during a routine oil change and replaced the spark plugs and ignition coils. When the error code popped up less than 2 days later, Sophie and the team promptly squeezed me in to look at it again free of charge. Long story short, it turned out to be a much bigger issue that I needed warranty repair. R&C was upfront with me and told me to go to a dealer and claim warranty repair rather than have them fix it. My Jeep was at the dealership for over a week where she got a new crankshaft and cylinder head. How does this relate to R&C? Well the dealership being a dealership wanted to replace the spark plugs and ignition coil as those are not covered under warranty. Why would I do that when I just replaced them? Not surprisingly, the dealership hassled me over getting it replaced through an outside mechanic. This is where the customer service of R&C really shined. They took care or talking to the dealership and providing proof that OEM parts were used. In the end, my Jeep was fixed and I saved a ton of hassle! I would have had to pay for the spark plugs and ignition coils anyways but I definitely saved $ doing it at R&C vs getting gouged at the dealer.
