Warning: dental talk ahead. About nine years ago, I had my top two wisdom teeth out. They'd emerged through the gum, they weren't particularly bothersome, but they were crowding my mouth a bit, so out they came. It was a relatively easy surgery, I drove myself home, napped on the couch, and ate jell-o for two days. At the time, both of my lower wisdom teeth were far below bone and gum, and I was told that if they stayed there, they could be left alone indefinitely. Ahh, but did they stay put? I think you know the answer to that. No, the lower right one started to come through, and starting a couple years ago I was told they should come out soon. Finally, after getting decent dental coverage, I decided it was time. This is the oral surgeon my dentist referred me to, so I didn't have much say in the matter, but it's close to home, which I definitely appreciate. After my regular dentist's dated office, I was pleased to see that this building is modern and comfortable. Nice waiting room with a couch and leather chairs, and while there was no TV to distract me in the exam room, I was able to listen to music on my phone to distract myself. The assistant/hygenist was very nice, she explained what was happening and asked if I was OK a few times (I may have looked a little nervous?). The oral surgeon, Dr Forfar, was pleasant and efficient. He looked at my x-rays and decided only the right one needed to come out; the left one is not hurting anyone and the root is near a nerve. I was very happy to hear that, since I'd been dreading the left side more. Cut to 20 minutes later, I was outta there, with a couple prescriptions, a post-op folder, and a checkup appointment for the following week. While I will never be a fan of dental work, I have to say Dr Forfar's office made the whole experience about as good as it could be, and if you need to have work done, it's as good a place as any. Let me start off by saying that Dr. Forfar is nothing but absolutely amazing!!! I was referred to Dr. Forfar because of a broken jaw. Dr. Forfar went over & above to make sure I got the best treatment possible. I love that he tells you how things are gonna be, without "beating around the bush!" Great experience with Dr. Forfar and staff. Waited less than a week after calling in for a tooth extraction which I thought would take at least a couple weeks. Felt comfortable before and during the scheduled appointment, did not have any serious problems post-operation either. Also, only waited about 10 minutes to get called in. Dr. Forfar pretty much saved me a trip to the Emergency Room. I had infected wisdom teeth, and boy was I in a world of pain. On and off antibiotics, I was feverish, in pain, and at my wits end. You see I had to wait TWO weeks at another oral surgeon's office for the removal of my surgery. That oral surgeon didn't even shake my hand when he saw me. Didn't even look in my mouth. Just looked at my xray and said schedule an appointment whenever you can. I told him my teeth were infected, he didn't seem to care or go with me to the receptionist area to get me in quick. Well the morning of my surgery his office called to cancel on me telling me that I had to wait to next week. I simply could not wait that long, I did not have any time left at work to take off, and I was on the verge of hitting rock bottom in terms of pain and infection. Luckily I found Dr. Forfar through a referral that same day and he handled it right then, and there, that afternoon. He was very nice, and professional. And the best part is that I healed like a champ, with no complications. His office did a good job of following up with me to remind me to rinse my mouth with salt water, which was great. DO NOT GO HERE! Dr. Forfar talks mostly about himself & his two sons! Very little focus on the patent. I scheduled the surgery for my daughter's wisdom teeth to be extracted because she wanted to get it over with. I asked the nurse about nausea medicine & she said they would only prescribe if necessary. When the surgery was over my daughter couldn't even make it to the car without vomiting! She was over medicated & was vomiting for almost two days! The swelling, pain and bruising lasted for nearly a month! Shop around for a better oral surgeon! read more

My daughter recently had her wisdom teeth extracted and the experience from start to finish was excellent. When we had our consult before her surgery, Dr. Forfar came in, shook our hands, was pleasant, informative, extremely knowledgeable and went over and above in explaining the procedure. He spent quite a bit of time with us making sure we were comfortable and understood what he was going to do. He spent more than enough time with us ~ he made us feel like we were the only patient of the day. The surgery was perfect and my daughter had very little swelling and discomfort. The staff was welcoming, friendly and went over, in detail, pre-op and post-op instructions. Dr. Forfar said more than once to please call - anytime - with questions or concerns - that is what he is there for. The day of surgery he was prompt and my daughter was out of there in 30 minutes. The previous consult we had with a dentist in Bloomingdale was extremely negative and is not a dentist we would ever consider going to or recommend. My experiences with Dr. Forfar have been nothing short of phenomenal. Initially I had gone into his offices after chipping a tooth that had a nerve hanging out of it. After having a root canal, and cap put on it had looked not only as if I never had lost a tooth, but it also looked just like my original. The attention to detail was fantastic. He had even made sure to match the tone of my other teeth. It was a perfect job, and was the reason I had gone in to get my wisdom teeth taken out by him as well. Dr. Forfar removed my wisdom teeth for me. Initially being scared to get them out, he made sure that it was an easy procedure and that everything went smoothly. The dental assistants were all nice and they were focused on assuring me that the pain wouldn't be bad and that everything would be fine. The office in itself is a nice place with couches and chairs in the waiting room. Overall, I will continue to recommend Dr. Forfar due to his professionalism. It's not easy for me to feel comfortable getting anything done with my teeth, but this office really put my mind at ease and made me relax with the procedure. Dr. Forfar is a wonderful oral surgeon and has been a lifesaver to my mother. She has seen him on a couple different occasions when extractions were necessary. His staff has always been warm and friendly and able to get her in right away for an appointment even if double booking in his busy offices is needed. The last time we were in she had a very bad abscess that became serious overnight. He explained what had to be done and took care of everything. He saved my mom from having to be hospitalized due to the pain and swelling. She was feeling better within a day or two. His office even called to follow up and be sure she was ok prior to going back to see him days later. My son had to pull out 4 wisdom teeth. I had no problem with Dr.Forfar and other staffs who worked in the front desk. They asked me to pay $700 dollars upfront and told me that they will refund me as soon as they received the check from the insurance company. We did the procedure in Wheaton, IL office. Two months later, I received a letter from my insurance company stating that the claim was processed and will be sending it out to Dr's office. So, I had the question about the claim so I reached out to financial coordinator from Wheaton office, She was extremely rude on the phone, and said that she will process refund as soon as she receive the check from the insurance company. After that, it took me 3 different phone calls to her which she never return my phone call and finally I had to call different financial coordinator in another location to get any follow up answers. I also read other review from other people and they complained that financial coordinator from Wheaton office is very rude!!!! read more

Though I found Dr. Forfar to provide excellent services for extraction of wisdom teeth, his office payment requirements of 30% upfront is a win-win for him. The office policy is to pay 30% of the estimated bill or, for me, $630 upfront prior to service rendered. They require this payment in the chance the H/C provider and the Dental provide do not pay the full estimated amount. They do not want to "chase" their money. They prefer you having to chase them and the H/C providers to get your money back. And let me tell you, it doesn't seem to be on their radar to help expedite. Out of sight, out of mind. My daughter had her procedure in July 2015. After a long ordeal of contacting all the providers and the office management at Forfar's over the past 5 months, I finally heard two week ago (after I contacted them again for the 5th time to check on status) that everything has been paid in full by the carriers and I will be getting a full refund of my initial payment of $630. This is great news!!! However, here I sit two week later (Dec 14, 2015) and yet no check in the mail. Still holding on to my money, while the money earns interest. Hmmmm? I have been dealing with doctors, specialists and other H/C providers in regards to health insurance for years and I never had the run around with getting my money back as I did through their office. I had a crowned tooth break. Seems there was some decay that had formed under the crown causing it to weaken and break off....and leaving the partially decayed root inside the gum. Had to see an oral surgeon to have it removed. A few years ago I had an upper tooth removed by an oral surgeon where I used to live and the experience was very bad. In fact, I almost passed out when I got out of the chair. (I am not wimpy by any means....however, the experience left me a bit anxious when I realized I may go through this again). I was referred to Dr. Forfar by my regular dental practice, and it turned out absolutely wonderful!! First of all, everyone in the office was compassionate and attentive. In fact, the young woman who assisted was completing her first week there and although she was in training, she was very nice, and did a good job. Now to Dr. Forfar: I WILL NEVER GO ANYWHERE ELSE AS LONG AS HE IS IN PRACTICE!!! He was very compassionate. He explained everything both during the consult and as we went through the surgery. Every few minutes he stopped and asked me if I was OK. I left the office feeling well (as good as you can after oral surgery that is!) My husband looked at me as I walked out and exclaimed that it was a big difference from the last time he took me for oral surgery! THEN, Dr. Forfar himself called me the next day to check on how I was doing!! I have received calls before even after surgery that was done in the hospital, but never have I received a call from the surgeon himself!!! I have already given a friend his name and number and also spoke to my married daughter who has to have her wisdom teeth pulled and she told me (knowing my dental history) that if I say he is great he HAS to be pretty great!!! I read some reviews that were not so favorable for him, but read them carefully. You can read between the lines in most and figure out what the problem was....and it was NOT Dr. Forfar's abilities nor his passion for what he does and his patients!! Last November 2013, i was referred to Dr. Forfar for a whole in my lower jaw bone by my dentist. I needed the 4 front lower teeth removed and the whole filled and a sample sent to a lab to check for cancer. The good news i was cancer free.The bad news was I asked him if i was going to be put out for the procedure he said yes. but i wasn't i was sedated.I was awake and felt it all. he charged me for being put out.His staff member in charge of filing insurance claims,filed my claim wrong it was declined.She never did a follow up with them. I had to do all the follow up myself several times had to file for an appeal finally in july of 2014 the claim was settled and a balance i have to pay we agreed on a monthly payment till balance is paid in full.I also had to put 25% down in order for him to do the work. I have to admit it was the most unpleasant Insurance claim i have ever had to go through.Their suppose to be the pros not the patients. All they did was bill me and didn't follow up at all with the ins. co.I was even told on the phone that the staff member was very busy doing other things but they would get it handled after i had the ins.co. call them to inform them what needed to be done to turn the claim around. Be warned if you go to them you may end up spending a lot of time doing your own claim process. read more

I don't even think this doctor deserves one star. I just had 2 teeth pulled by Dr. Forfar and this was by far the worst experience of my life. He was extremely rude and unprofessional. When he went to numb me, he did not tell me what he was going to do before had. He made it seem like he was just going to look and jams a needle in my mouth. During the extraction he had so many things in my mouth and it was full of saliva and blood and I was already upset and started to gag and almost puked in my mouth, meanwhile he is yelling at me that he is no where near my gag reflex and I need to stop. Did not give me a break to swallow, wouldn't suction my mouth when it was full of saliva and blood, nothing. After, all he did was shove 2 giant things of gauze in my mouth and walk out. I will never ever return back to this facility. The only good thing about this appointment was the fact that he pulled them quick and I didn't have to see him again.
