I've had my wisdom teeth removed here and had visits for some other maladies. To put it it simply: I enjoyed my time with this doctor. He knows his stuff; but the part I find more fascinating is his personality and attitude. He's easy to get along with and shoots straight, tells you what you need to hear. I'm not certain if oral surgeons need an MD but it's good to know Dr. Scherer is well trained and educated. His staff is very competent and friendly, and the facility is clean and well maintained. My wisdom teeth extraction went without a hitch and recovery was far quicker than I anticipated (healing is an individual thing so don't put a whole lot of weight into it). It feels weird writing a review for a medical practice, but all i have to say are praises for these folks so I'd like to pass this along to whomever needs it. read more

Years ago, Dr. Scherer removed a tooth of mine, and the experience was perfect... very efficient, professional, and I had no issues afterwards. Because of that positive experience, I brought my 9-year old son in today to have a tooth removed. My son has some special needs - he has severe ADHD, a learning disability and intense anxiety about pain. During our consultation with Dr. Scherer last month, I informed him of this and explained that my son has anxiety and fear (somewhat disproportionate to a normal level) when it comes to pain. I said, he will be VERY afraid and wI'll likely cry. I asked Dr. Scherer what he could do to help alleviate the fear. Answer: a child's dose of Valium the night before and morning of, and either laughing gas or IV sedation. I assumed those would be coupled with some understanding and a little empathy and maybe compassion for a terrified CHILD. OMG!!!! NOTHING could be farther from that. Dr. Scherer showed no empathy or compassion. Basically, he scared my son even more by saying "We can either do this now, here - or in the hospital." He demonstrated no care or understanding that my son was terrified. In fact, Dr. Scherer's demeanor was brusque, curt and slightly aggressive. He was unkind in that he used my son's fear against him instead of found or saying ANYTHING to try to allay his fear... even a little. My son was being brave and 'keeping it together' until we were told that I wasn't allowed to go into the room to hold his hand. Per Dr. Scherer, APPARENTLY, having a parent in the room makes the situation worse. Ok, maybe. I'll never know. But, I never expected the callous, brusque manner of Dr. Scherer today. I don't understand why this "hard-a$$" approach was necessary or appropriate for a scared, terrified kid with cognitive challenges. Shame on you, Dr. Scherer. read more

Very pricey- they charged $150 for an initial consultation that took a few minutes with only a look inside my mouth. The quote was also pricey and then pushy with follow ups. Glad I went somewhere else and ended up paying a lot less. read more

OMG! Okay I went here for a consultation and a Panarama X-ray. Although I already had three (count 'em) three X-rays they insisted I had to have yet another. When I attempted to make an appointment I was told that I had cursed out a staff member. Well as you might imagine this came as quite a shock to me as I had no clue what they were talking about. This was a total fabrication and if they continue to conjure lies and slander my character I'll contact my lawyer and sue them in a court of law. This dentists favorite saying is "I think there is a miscommunication here". He repeats this phrase over and over again until your head is spinning. No Dr Scherer I heard you the first time ya wierdo! Here is my advice if you are considering patronizing this unprofessional. Dr Scherer's support staff is amazing. Terri his nurse and another nurse were so patient and caring. They let my daughter take as long as she needed to recover and provided for her every need with care and compassion. We felt really blessed. In 65 years I've never been as happy with a dental/oral surgery visit as I was with doctor Scherer. The consultation went great as his chair side manner is welcoming yet professional. His approach runs off on the entire staff who are all pleasant and there to truly help you through the process. Was there for an extraction- after discussion of different options / pros and cons, but was made to feel the decision I made was a good one. No question to trivial- procedure communicated well and went smoothly. A little nervous with these visits-( like me) then this is your guy. I had a tooth extraction and asked to be put under sedation for the procedure. I was in and out in about an hour. The staff was incredibly kind and professional. Dr. Scherer was incredibly kind, patient and professional also. My procedure went off beautifully in all ways. It is one day later and I have hardly any pain! Just some irritation. I think that this is pretty awesome for a tooth extraction. Dr. Scherer is also board certified which means he has a higher level of training behind him. All in all - a great experience. I had a wisdom tooth taken out yesterday and it went very well. Please note that I am far along in my pregnancy, and Dr. Scherer was extremely careful to ensure I was comfortable with the procedure and process before he began. Pain, discomfort and swelling is very minimal, so much better than anticipated. I found all the staff members to be friendly and sweet. I'll be going back to remove the others in the Fall. read more

I was very nervous about having a tooth extraction for the first time. My experience with Dr. Scherer, and his entire staff, was positive, welcoming, and calm. I just had my surgery about 8 hours ago, but I just felt like I really needed to rave about my experience. I'm 24 and needed all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed, 3 which were impacted. I went in for a consultation in mid October. The staff was extremely friendly, in particular (Terry and Dr. Scherer Yes !) very informative and explained everything step by step. Even if I had questions leading up to my procedure I would call and have every single question answered by the receptionists! They kept the entire process VERY professional, but also made sure I felt comfortable prior to the beginning of the process. For example, a few jokes were cracked, they allow me to choose the music I wanted playing in the room, obviously all done extremely professional with just enough humor to calm me down. They are overal just a great and friendly group of people! They made me feel relaxed and comfortable with no fears. I will have to say the best part of my surgery was waking up to rocky the therapy dog they brought in! I would recommend Dr. Scherer to anyone in need of any oral surgery. I can't say enough about Dr. Scherer, he is a very personable, fun, caring, kind doctor. I've had my fair share of dentist, oral surgeons, etc. He is by far the best I've gone to. And the best part, it was for my daughter (who is 8), so not only was he a good doctor, he was so good for my daughter, he made her calm. To know my daughter is to know that she worries about EVERYTHING!!!!! She will work herself up to the point where there is no return. When we went for the consultation, he put her at ease and answered all her questions. She left there not scared anymore. When she went in for the real extraction, she was relaxed. After she was done, she didn't even have a tear in her eye!!!! She said she didn't even feel him pulling her tooth!! AMAZING! I can't even express how happy I am that we chose Dr. Scherer!! I am terrified of anything dental related. I had to have a root canal that had fractured and its crown removed. As usual, i was a complete mess when i arrived for my consultation visit. Teri and Dr. Scherer are by far my most favorite dental people ever. They work so well together and made me feel so comfortable. My dental work was painless and it was actually enjoyable spending time with them, which is saying alot from someone who gets heart palpitations just going to the dentist. Nearly 5 years ago I had my wisdom teeth removed on the left side by a different doctor/office; it was a terrible experience which left me traumatized. I never feared dental exams/treatments until that visit 5 years ago. I held off on getting the right side removed; after days of research on google and facebook I made the decision to see Dr. Scherer; I'm glad I did. At my first exam Dr. Scherer and his staff eased my anxiety and explained everything to me. I had my wisdom tooth extraction today, about 10 hours ago. I'm in minimal pain, so far I seem to minimal swelling. This was a much better experience than my first wisdom tooth extraction. I highly recommend Dr. Scherer & his team! read more

I have never been so disappointed in a doctor in my 54 years. He was totally unprofessional in how he recommended a course of action. Then for reasons he never explained he did not have the decency to call, but rather had his schedulers cancel the appointment. I do not recommend this doctor. read more

If you need to get a tooth extracted, this is the place to go. I'm not really crazy about going to the dentist and I got myself all worked up for nothing. The Dr. and all his staff couldn't have been nicer. The office atmosphere has wonderful energy and everyone is very pleasant and professional. The process was quick and they walked me through everything with ease. The follow-up customer service was excellent too. It's been 5 days since the extraction and recovery's been a breeze. we contacted this doctor's office on barrington rd because of a serious dental emergency. They were only nice up until they found out that they didn't accept our insurance. I guess if they're not even accepting your insurance, they don't have to treat you like a human being anymore, right? They condescend upon you like a dirt poor jerk who had the nerve to even ask for help. And when asked if they knew someone else we could go to, they just threw a name at us and basically said,"There. Go find him." Rude and degrading. And that's just the receptionist. If that's how the receptionist is expected to talk to customers, can you imagine the dentist?? the messed up part is, their office IS supposed to accept our insurance because they're part of our network, according to our insurance company. The insurance company said to have them call them. Yeah, we are not conversing with them any further. NO THANK YOU. read more
