Felipe stated he could not find my inquiry, so I provided the information. After emailing my information and scheduling a 10-minute consultation for July 30th, I called for my appointment yesterday and was informed that not only was my appointment not on the calendar, but the person who took my call could not find my information. When I finally spoke with the attorney, Mrs. Suvita Melehy, Esq., she apologized for the mishaps and explained they were understaffed. 30 seconds into explaining my case, Mrs. Melehy began to theorize AGAINST my case without understanding that the employer does not calculate credentials as both she and I do. She began to continuously interrupt me to the point I had to ask her if I could finish my sentence. Mrs. Melehy explained that her firm does not take civil rights cases on contingency, which I understand as a civil rights advocate, and she explained that Mr. Melehy's hourly rate is $675/hr., hers is around $625/hr., and junior associates' hourlies are ~$350-$450. She explained that they do not accept payment plans. While their hourly rates are so high that a judge recently ordered that their excessive attorney's fees charges be lowered in a case in April 2024, I was willing to pay their rate. Where Melehy & Associates lost a client with a valid case that will net higher than the $250,000 case Mrs. Melehy bragged about is when she decided not to listen to a potential client. It is clear their purpose is solely making money, not advocacy nor helping victims of discrimination. I highly suggest Melehy remove civil rights work from their offered services if money is their only motive.

She stuck with me for a year through so many of my personal and legal ups and downs, my emotions and health issues because of what happened to me, and she is truly remarkable. To see her in action is tremendous! I've watched an entire room while Carol was presenting and she's so quick with information in terms of citing regulations on the spot against speculative and unsubstantiated remarks coming from the other side. Truly in awe of her abilities. She is more than just an incredible person, but a great attorney. I witnessed first hand, her ability to digest voluminous information - distill what was relevant and irrelevant and make cogent arguments. That goes double in a small area where the paucity of effective counsel leaves much to be desired. You have a diamond in the rough with Carol and her team. She does not use superfluous words or enter anything into evidence to make the case for opposing counsel. She understands the burden of proof and uses it effectively and surgically. Background? For context (what is it worth), I never write reviews. Everyone's situation is different. I also put little opinion in the faith of others. However, Carol's representation was so beyond perfection, that I believe I owe it to everyone reading this, that you hire her immediately. What's more, if it matters, I have used five attorneys now, so I believe I know what good and bad lawyering looks like (or should like). Carol represented me in a sensitive matter. She took the matter to its logical conclusion and prepared me and represented my interest before the tribunal very well. First, her legal acumen is without peer. Opposing counsel, while over-matched, was a worthy adversary. Nevertheless, she objected when necessary. She also did not do anything to showboat or appease me for the sake of "getting even". If a complainant prevails, the firm don't get any more money than you paid them for the services, therefore they usually care less if you win or not. I was a victim of an intricate plan to lose with a guise of a bill credit as good faith. Knowing, that was peanuts compared to what I would have been compensated for. I can't expound because this is a law firm and Todd Hull, I am reviewing and negative but true reviews of this nature are typically never taken well, either they come back to victimize you twice with legal action for sharing your actual experiences, or outright refute the facts which just happen to be what they are qualified to do anyway. Please, I am not some ranting disaapointed client. Beware, of polished professionalism it does not stand in the place of integrity and genuine intent to help a client prevail. It is shameful when the attorney start to throw hints they are working against your case. I hope they enjoyed the tens of thousands of dollars paid...consider it a kind donation to please buy yourselves some values foundation.

DON'T HIRE Kimberly Berry for an employment discrimination matter, especially not on a retainer or…read moreyou will regret it! These cases should only be performed on a contingency agreement and only by a knowledgable/trustworthy attorney. I hired Ms Berry in May 2020 for a "disability discrimination" case which she told me she believed she could settle with my former employer within a month or 2. After paying her $450 for a consultation and BEFORE hiring her for a steep $9,000 retainer, Ms Berry explained the steps she would take in my case in writing which were to be the following: 1- Draft/edit/submit a demand letter 2- Negotiate settlement 3- Draft/edit/submit a settlement agreement She also indicated that there were other methods she could pursue including filing with the EEOC. In her same email she stated, "IF your case is to settle early (after the above 3 steps were completed), there will a refund of remaining funds in the retainer." Ms Berry offered full representation and to fight hard for my case which is ultimately what led me to hire her/firm. Unfortunately, from the onset, there were constantly delays. It took Ms Berry roughly 2 months to submit the demand letter and 3 months before I received my 1st bill. Ms Berry later explained that my case was 'long and drawn out because my former employer changed counsel,' and Ms Berry had to forward the email with the demand letter attachment to new counsel. As a result and at the end of the 4th month, I received a letter from her firm indicating that my entire retainer had been used up, and she needed $2,000 more to continue working on my case. This was despite only completing 1 of the 3 above steps and opposing counsel hadn't even responded yet. When opposing counsel did respond they indicated they would not negotiate and Ms Berry was ready to give up my case and became unwilling to file with the EEOC like she had initially discussed as an option before hiring. She said she could no longer help me, surrendered my case, and encouraged me to hire another attorney who specialized in cases like mine!!! She also said that less than 1-2% of cases she takes before the EEOC are successful! What was possibly even more frustrating was when I asked her if I could file a lawsuit in EITHER a State or Federal court w/o getting the "right to sue" from the EEOC and she incorrectly explained that this was not possible w/o EEOC's "right to sue." I ended up hiring another attorney (on a contingency) who explained that you can in fact file a lawsuit in state court w/o the EEOC's right to sue, directly contradicting Ms Berry's statement. Ms Berry claims to have over 20 years of experience in employment law, but either she was unaware of the law, or intentionally misled me so she could drop my case without putting up a fight. Regardless, she spent more time arguing with me over the billing and how her firm "was very fair and could have charged me an additional $3,000 but chose not to" than fighting for my case. DON'T HIRE! -Justin P.S. Berry and Berry don't bother to respond to this post unless you agree to refund the $5,000 requested. Your firm has caused enough in damages to me.

I received a response stating "It is good to hear from you. It probably makes sense for you to reach out to [other party regarding my question] and the need to reach a resolution. If you are able to reach an agreement, then we can help you to memorialize its terms." I was surprised when I was charged for this, and when I asked if I was being charged, I was ignored. Finally, when I asked to end my relationship with the firm and requested a refund of my retainer, the amount billed for the aforementioned email response was deducted. While it was only ~$40, my question was not even answered. I was offered a 15 minute consultation at a later time, but since I'm no longer a client, asked if that was something I would even be able to use. A week later and I have not received a response. I would be cautious of this firm if your situation is not cut and dry and to whom you are assigned. In my experience, Soo Keithley is fantastic, but others may leave you wanting for more.
